CBSNEWS LAUNCHES INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AFTER SUSPICIOUS BUSH DOCS AIRED
**Exclusive**
CBS NEWS executives have launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush's National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake, if we are in error, it will be corrected," a top CBS source explained late Thursday.
The source, who asked not to be named, described CBSNEWS anchor and 60 MINUTES correspondent Dan Rather as being privately "shell-shocked" by the increasingly likelihood that the documents in question were fraudulent.
Rather, who anchored the segment presenting new information on the president's military service, will personally correct the record on-air, if need be, the source explained from New York.

There are a few, but very few...they're scared to death to discuss the reality and magnitude of it...i.e., Al Gore invented the Internet, John Kerry invented TOAST...!

I agree! This is truly an amazing turn of events...for the new CONSERVATIVE media to have brought down an "institution" like CBS/60 Minutes. Kudos to all of you at FR. Who was the very first FReeper to break with the forgery. Best I can tell at this time it was Howlin.
What say you Howlin?
And whoever it was deserves the top award for investigative journalism and any other awards such an act would be eligible.

Thanks for the links......exactly what I heard reported!
Dare we hope that justice will prevail and this whole scheme to smear Bush will backfire on CBS and those (Dems????) who perpetrated the fraud?
CBS must be made to divulge the source of these document. Sure hope the Justice Dept. looks into this.
Rather Biased may be rather 'red in the face'!
The fact that Killian's wife said that 'he didn't even type' seems important.

Look at who I was responding to and what was being discussed. That's why the posts are numbered and linked.
FWIW, the four memo's weren't being discussed in those posts. An entirely different document was. HTH

They are probably still spinning trying to figure out how the "common people" could take them down Like the Kerry/Heintz of the world they have nothing but contempt for the "common people". They are so much above them you know. /src

From what I can tell right now, CBS's "verification" process consisted solely of calling up people and asking them if the wording of the docs sounded authentic.
Based on a response in the affirmative they went to air stating the documents were real without ever having a human actually look at them!

A Freeper reported he was brought in to fix a computer problem and a Dem Delegate told him that. When he told her they were probably forgeries, she nearly crapped her pants. There have been so many threads on this today that I don't remember which thread that was on, though.

Well, I'm going to bed. Here are my favorite Freeper comments from the day:
I went to DU and any thread on this subject is immediately locked. How come?
Cognitive dissonance.
Not to beat our own drum, but you can post ANY question here and get it answered by people with expert knowledge in less than 30 minutes. We constantly have stuff here---not always in the articles, but often in the commentary---that is way ahead of the news. And that's how newspapers used to be prior to Jackson: a "broadside" would arrive in an inn or tavern or coffee house and people would gather as a literate person read. Then they would begin to interject opinions and expertise and "edit" the story as they went. They would quickly decide if it was true or not!
Brit said they typed the memos in the newsroom on MS WORD and it matched! hahahahaha
That was done here hours ago.
Hewitt's expert says CBS won't identify its expert.
"Experts" are a dime a dozen.
I used to work with this insurance guy, Tony, who taught me how the pros forge signatures. The secret is to turn the signature which you are duplicating upside down. That way when you forge the signature you are only duplicating what looks like a scribble instead of a group of letters. This negates any predisposition you have in the way that you normally write those letters. With a little practice, this method works amazingly well.
Tony was clearly an "expert". Maybe CBS asked Tony.
CBS standing firm at this hour.
Rigor mortis.
CBS will say they were fooled by these docs because their source is extremely credible and reliable. They will refuse to reveal the source.
Rumor has it CBS got them from Art Bell, who got them from, well, we don't exactly know -- but a recent CBS poll of the Milky Way Galaxy found that the galactic community is against GW by 85%.
As far as I'm concerned it is over, and is proven to be a fake document. The man's son says the document did not come from the family's personal records and there is no way "private" notes would be in official military files--so the only logical answer is it a fabrication. How like the Democrats to try to put lying words in the mouth of the dead who cannot defend themselves. Shameful but not surprising since they also vote for the dead. MrsPD
It was inevitable---the thought of defeating their rivals at cbs was more important than solidarity with the losing kerry campaign.
I love it when liberals eat their own.
The statement added that CBS reporters had verified the documents by talking to unidentified individuals who saw them "at the time they were written."
This is probably true. They were likely declared "authentic" by people who saw them written - in 2004.
I wonder if Rather will fall on his sword....Or squeal like the 'Rat he is
Fox should send Brit with a hand held camera over to CBS banging on the door, Mike Wallace(or fatso Moore) style, asking questions about the forgeries. That'd be a hoot.
ROFLMAO hey lets send the Protest Warriors!!!
ROFLMAO hey lets send the Protest Warriors!!!
CBS Limosine Liberals spotted fleeing NYC! hahahahaha
Rathergate (whoops the th here is raised in the orignal)
gee Jim, do you mean like woodward & bernstein's "Deep Throat" who was "secret scorce" quoted as gospel in their book, but has never been questioned or seen to back up their "facts"?
Well, does that mean that all we have to do is talk to "Deep Font", and we'll know who made the fake docs??
CBS probably paid big $ for the documents to someone who knows liberals are stupid.
My dream is that Michael Moore is the one who forged these documents and he gets outed for it.
"It has come to our attention, here at CBS, that the documents we hoped would be the nail in Bush's coffin were forgeries. Were sorry our reporting is shakier than cafeteria Jell-O. We're really very sorry the documents were not genuine. We're even more sorry the world found out about that. Right now were about as uncomfortable as a too-small bathing suit on a too-long ride home from the beach. We're sorry we didn't have any REAL dirt on President Bush. We're sorry that Kerry is such a weak candidate. We're sorry that none of the mud we continue to throw at the President seems to be sticking. We've lived by the crystal ball, we're eating so much broken glass. We're in critical condition. We're sorry, we're sorry, we're SO sorry."

Dan Rather must apologize to president Bush and resign." That's it, isn't it? He will HAVE TO apologize to the President of the United States!!!!!
How could anyone ever trust Rather again? He slimed the sitting President. Now he has to hang his head in shame in front of the world. HOW UTTERLY, WICKEDLY EMBARRASSING FOR RATHER. I'll start working on the refreshments.
