Bush, Kerry start stretch run swinging (John Glenn's Nazi comment)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 4 Sept 2004 | Jill Zuckman and Mark Silva

NEWARK, Ohio -- Angry words and sharp disagreements... as Sen. John Kerry accused President Bush... anything to get re-elected,...

-snip-

Bush warned... would raise taxes...

"I'm running against a fellow who has promised over $2 trillion in new spending so far,...

... Bush ... "I support marriage and family, which are the foundations of our society."

...cited the August gain of 144,000 jobs as evidence ... "Because we acted, our economy is growing again," he said.

-snip-

But a newly combative Kerry questioned the Republicans' truthfulness...convention--where the senator was called "unfit" to serve as commander in chief--as filled with "distortion," "anger" and "vitriol."

Noting the first lie-detector test given in Ohio was done in Newark in 1933, Kerry said, "It's lucky for my opponent that his convention was held in New York and not here."

Former Sen. John Glenn... urged voters "to separate out fact from fiction." He accused Republicans of making false claims against Kerry and engaging in the kind of propaganda once employed by the Third Reich in Nazi Germany.

"That makes this a very, very tough fight because too often, too often in this country, if you hear something repeated, it's the old Hitler business," Glenn said. "If you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it."

"I will not have my commitment to serve my country questioned by those who refused to serve when they had a chance," Kerry said, referring to VP Cheney's five draft deferments.... "I will not have it questioned by those who misled our nation into war with Iraq. It is clear that this president will say anything, do anything to avoid talking about the real problems of America and in order to get elected."

Later he added: "Every time they open their mouths, they can't tell the truth."

Isn't there an internet maxim about the first one to shout "Nazi" in an internet discussion?

Glenn lost...

Any Nazi comparisons at this point can only be perceived as desperation.

Exactley, with Bush opening up a lead, everything Kerry is going to do now, will be out of desperation, and the voters will see it, the lefty's who are voting against Bush anyway, can see these are desperate acts.

More times the Hitler himself.

Hey, where is ACUL, AIPAC, JDL etc. and all the other civil rights leagues. Here we have a leading Democratic center making outrageous Hitler and Nazi comparisons. Holy smokes, these guys have totally lost it. But where are all the groups who are supposedly against "Hate" speech. Do they only get outraged when somebody says this about Democrats?

Really, these Hitler and Nazi analogies are beyond the pale. It belittles the truly horrendous sufferings of millions of people who died a miserable death at the hands of Hiltler and the Nazis. The silence of leftist organizations is pathetic. I have lost all repect for them and Senator John Glenn. Truly despicable behavior.

Agreed. Just heard Joe Wilson use the fascism analogy on CSPAN2. In the company of quite a group of leftist speakers. Sid Bloomenthal, Paul Krugman and Mark Green.

[it's the old Hitler business," Glenn said. "If you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it." ]

Glenn knows full well that Goebbels has been the poster boy for the old Democrat party propaganda ministry for years. He also knows with the collapse of influence of the OM, this tactic is fast disappearing for the Dims. The Republicans are mastering the new media, which gets the truth out despite OM filtering.

speaking of which, embedded within the article, is this:

where the senator was called "unfit" to serve as commander in chief

Of course no such thing was said and Kerry repeating this over & over in some way connects with his tackling of the SwiftVets - he's using their wording and attributing it to Bush / Cheney even though they've never said such. I don't know why Kerry thinks that works except in the minds of the Moore-on wing of the DemoncRAT party.

It's sad. When I was a kid, Glenn was a hero, but I've lost all respect for him.

I had a very interesting discussion with some retired Columbus and Grandview Heights police officers at a golf outing a few years ago. They recounted the story of John Glenn falling down, drunk and busting his chin open after visiting a hooker in the Travel Lodge Motel on the Columbus / Grandview border.

Sad thing how this guy ended up. He was a true Ohio hero until he started telling us how he thinks on things.

I saw most of the major speeches, but I don't recall anyone actually saying that Kerry was unfit for command (even though he is and even though this notion was strongly implied by what was actually said). Did anyone actually say it? The article says that someone actually did.

If we didn't already know that the Rats were in full panic/free fall mode, this comment seals the deal. Moreover, it is only going to make their problems worse. Glenn and the rest of the Kerry sycophants should heed the advice of whoever said that when you are in a hole, the first thing is to stop digging.

Glenn as a hero was a myth. He was a self serving glory hound from the get-go, just like John F'n Kerry. The who Green Marine thing was just an image stoked by the NASA PR machine.
