Britney could raise the ratings and help with fund-raising. I'm sure the party leaders wouldn't get all high and mighty about whether she is worthy of being a Republican, they need to reach people, and Britney would help.

I think Cooper has the right perspective: ""If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

For the reasons given by Cooper, we don't need Alice Cooper and we don't need Britney Spears. Only morons need people like that in order to decide how to vote. Is the republican party willing to compromise their principles in order to attract the moron vote?

Hey, votes is votes.

Now, seriously, if you think that we can elect a candidate just with the base alone, you're wrong.

I think Jessica Simpson might be a better example, but we shouldnt bar folks just because they may have made some bad decisions.

I don't recall Barry Goldwater or William F. Buckley mentioning anything about abortion or gay rights while the conservative movement was being reassembled. This is the point and learn from it.
I'm not a Christian, it didn't take me the Bible or a preacher to tell me killing an infant before it's first breath of fresh air or first glimpse of light. It didn't take me the Bible to understand men have the stick ins and women have the stick intos.
American conservatism is based upon the Constitution. The men who created this great nation were men of faith but they were first men of ideas. It just cracks me up when I hear somebody say, "Well, that's not in the proper interpretation of the Constitution and follow it up with, "If you read Federalist Paper xx, you'll see this was the intention. Too bad! Had it been that important at the time, there would have been a comment or addenda, like the BILL OF RIGHTS !!!
It's like writing a song. You put the words down but the first singer who belts it out is going to be giving it their interpretation.
Until the religious conservatives understand the Republican Party is not their vehicle for instituting a Judea-Christian based legal and social system in America, they will be severely disappointed. They can sit out election after election and watch the situation disintegrate, that is their choice.
Until the economic conservatives understand a moral nation builds a foundation which allows the environment for the success of business and creation of wealth. They can push and shove and try to hide an important factor of this party and make it clear those of faith are not welcome in the light of day but socialism isn't very predisposed toward success.
Finally, the individual liberty conservatives have to consider situations are elastic. Sometimes personal rights need to be abridged in the name of security. A case in point is the evolution of civil rights in America. There has never been a point in time in CIVILIZED America where people have had more right to dissent and more people included in the political process than today.
That is the critical link between the 3 factions of the Republican Party, individual freedom and personal liberties. The right to worship as we choose or not to worship. The right to start and own your own business or to work for someone else. The right to dissent or fight for the rights of those in positions worse than ourselves, whether in bondage, in the womb or under the chains of tyranny.
And this is derived from the Creator.

I would rather appeal to the moron vote and get a President who does believe in our values and will implement conservative principles (not to mention conservative Supreme Court Justices!!), than fail to appeal to the moron vote and get stuck with President John Kerry!

And last but not least, should I raise my children not to emulate Britney, but follow your witness of Christian-like behavior when they speak about others?

If you get up on stage dressed like a slut and simulate sex acts, then what should I call Ms. Spears? A wholesome teenage idol?

The purpose for bringing Britney Spears to the convention would be to appeal to those who idolize Britney Spears. Britney has demonstrated a flagrant disregard for purity and has done much to bring down the moral climate of our culture. In that sense she is no better or worse than many of her peers. Calling her a "slutbag" is perhaps a bit over the top. But then calling her a "role model" for our youth is ludicrous. She is not a "role model". She is the very symbol of our national moral decay.

IF the republicans feel they need to cater to that decay in order to win, then I believe they have lost. We are a party of ideas not people. We are a party of principle not popularity. We ought to appeal to people's intellect and their sense of honor, duty and country and not to their purient interests and their sense of sight.

But then I've been wrong before. How about you?

The pubbies are never going to get the moron vote. Most morons dont vote. The ones that do vote will invariably vote for the democrat because "democrats care about people and all republicans care about is big corporations". Then when they are done they go punch a clock at Microsoft or General Motors and complain that they don't make enough money.

Not for nothing, but I think business success has little, if anything, to do with morality or a just moral climate. In fact, I'd wager the opposite were true: the less hung up on morals a businessman is, the more money he can make.

Really like your homepage, P-Marlowe! Happy to be your brother in Christ, TR76

Thanks Tony.

BTW, do you think I'm over the top with the "slutbag" comment? Is that an "un-Christian" thing to say?

If so, what should I call a person who dresses like a prostitute and simulates sex acts on stage?

She's a silly little piece of eye-candy who happens to be the flavor of the moment. I have no problem with your language---it's what she wants dirty old men like me to think she is, but it's such a marketing put-on, it's really quite sad.

Who do you think wins elections? We may run the pillars of the community as candidates, but they don't win without the "common man" vote.

In 1998 I was helping Ernie Fletcher in his second Congressional race in Kentucky. In 1996 he had done well, but come up a little short. In '98 we went to a small town to campaign. The contact in that town started out by saying, "Ernie, you won the saint vote two years ago with no problems. They're your friends and they're supporting you this year too. But you need more to win. Today, I'm introducing you to some sinners!" We went around half that afternoon speaking to people in liquor stores, pool halls, etc. And by golly, he won that county, which he didn't do in '96!!

I'll never forget that as one of my greatest lessons in politics.

Your point is well taken and in the short term could be correct. In the long term, however, a businessman who cheats his customers and steals from his employees will lose both. In addition, one need only to look at areas where crime and corruption abound, it deters people from coming to the locations to do business
In my experience, most shopkeepers are honest. Those who are not, may get my money once. Also, I tend to patronize local merchants unless their prices are totally out of whack. I also don't mind paying a dollar or two more for the personalized service many of these stores provide.

"'It would be the height of hypocrisy for a party that claims to represent wholesome values to celebrate her.'

I must have missed the memo, but when exactly did the GOP or any party become the lone repository of and defender of "wholesome values"? LOL...

Perhaps we should put a "morality meter" or something outside of each polling place on election day to prevent "unwholesome" Americans for voting for the GOP.

Why don't you just move to South Carolina and set up your little slice of Heaven on Earth and leave the rest of us alone, allright?
