Until the economic conservatives understand a moral nation builds a foundation which allows the environment for the success of business and creation of wealth. Not for nothing, but I think business success has little, if anything, to do with morality or a just moral climate. In fact, I'd wager the opposite were true: the less hung up on morals a businessman is, the more money he can make.

Your point is well taken and in the short term could be correct. In the long term, however, a businessman who cheats his customers and steals from his employees will lose both. In addition, one need only to look at areas where crime and corruption abound, it deters people from coming to the locations to do business
In my experience, most shopkeepers are honest. Those who are not, may get my money once. Also, I tend to patronize local merchants unless their prices are totally out of whack. I also don't mind paying a dollar or two more for the personalized service many of these stores provide.
