OCALA - The highest ranking enlisted man on Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry's U.S. Navy swift boat in Vietnam, Clearwater resident Del Sandusky, will visit three north central Florida sites next Wednesday.
Sandusky will visit with UAW retirees on 4301 Maricamp Rd., from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., be at the Disabled American Veterans Center (Chapter 85) at 9892 SE 58th Ave., from 3-5 p.m. before concluding his visit at the Unified Training Center at 809 North University Ave., in Gainesville from 7-9 p.m.
Sandusky was born in a farming community in Streator, Ill., in December of 1943. His father worked for the Santa Fe railroad and the moved to Florida in 1957 where Del attended Dunedin Middle School.
He joined the Navy in 1961 and began his first tour of Vietnam in 1964. He volunteered and was assigned to the "river boat squadron" in 1965 and spent 1966 in Da Nang on the river. He began his second tour in spring of 1968 and John Kerry came onto the swift boat in January of 1969. He was there throughout Kerry's service and beyond.
He is a retired computer technician.
"He will be here to answer any and all questions about the man who saved his life and whose life he saved," said Bob Van Heyde, a local Kerry supporter.
hanoi john only rescued 1 man, sandusky is not that man. It may just be the kerry campaign guy's misunderstanding that these are 2 different men and getting them confused.
Hi folks. First time posting; have lurked on this site since the last election. Might have some interesting-if-true info. on this guy Saldunsky. About two weeks ago a poster on Lucianne mentioned this guy and says that he knows him personally. He is alleged to be a dead-beat drunk whose mobile home got repossessed, which made joining the Kerry campaign look mighty nice. The poster mentioned this BEFORE his name was even out in the public, so I figure that he is telling the truth, and that the Kerry campaign was sitting on this, and is using this guy as their secret weapon.
Please note that Kerry left Nam in January. Did their time there even overlap? Just wondering.
Sandusky is very unimpressive from a public relations standpoint, and all suggestions to ask him about the 180 medical release form, the atrocities, etc are a damned good idea.
Kerry is going before the VFW on Wed... plan on some major stunt from him to "seek healing" and "put this controversy behind us."
Be prepared. The reason they've hidden on vacation for two days is to find a way to extricate themselves from this mess.

Former Elgin resident part of Kerry's crew at the convention
Posted Friday, July 30, 2004
BOSTON - Former Elgin resident Del Sandusky got to share the stage during the final night of the convention, coming out with 13 other swift boat crewmates who were led in Vietnam by Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.
The evening capped a busy week for Navy veteran Sandusky, who has had his share of the limelight since appearing in a TV commercial for Kerry during the primary campaign. The ad, which focused on Kerry's experience leading a river patrol boat through enemy ambushes during the war, was credited with helping turn Kerry's campaign around.
Since then, Sandusky has traveled around the country, speaking on behalf of Kerry to veterans groups. Kerry's campaign has reimbursed Sandusky for his travels, according to campaign finance records. Sandusky told the Daily Herald last week that Kerry was an inspirational leader during the tough times of Vietnam. Sandusky also has said he and Kerry have kept in touch over the years, with Kerry praying with him during difficult times during the 1990s. Sandusky went through a divorce and a home foreclosure. He's now remarried and living in Dunedin, Fla.
I think Sandusky was trying to say "We were on the same boat. We looked out for each other. We saved each other's lives.", not that he literally saved Kerry's life and Kerry literally saved his life.
"John Kerry is the kindest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've known all my life."
Is this just another lie??
Why would you question that? A lot of people did multiple tours. He was on PCF-94, the boat that kerry took over at the end of January 1969.
According to one report this guy was wounded in action prior to Kerry's assuming command and was in the hospital during Kerry's entire 4 month tour in Viet Nam.
Any FReepers in the area a disabled vet so you would have access to that meeting? I'm sure you could help the group with the right questions to ask.
No, kerry left in either March or April but definitely not January. He took over as OIC on PCF-94 at the end of January. Sandusky was one of the enlisted crew members at the time.
Personal opinion (no flame intended): Rumors from unknown sources add little to the discussion. The names of kerry's crew have been out in the public for years; he's used them in previous campaigns.
No, that was Alston, not Sandusky.
Again no. Alston was wounded the day before kerry took over PCF-94. He may or may not have returned to PCF-94 to serve under kerry. The record's not entirely clear on this. He definitely wasn't hospitalized for kerry's entire time there.
OK folks, here's our OPPORTUNITY to FReep this Kerry prostitute.
I wouldn't place a big bet on the "poster" being truthful. Don't get me wrong....I like seeing Kerry exposed for what he really seems to be...BUT, unless you have factual info...fergetaboutit.
TRUST BUT VERIFY.
BTW, welcome to FR.
Thanks for the respectful admonitions; I will be more aware and cautious, now. Wouldn't have posted at all, but this particular poster is well-known at Lucianne, and a VietNam vet himself. Also, he knew that this guy's trailer house was repossessed, and that was verified by the news article mentioned in post#23.
Thanks for the welcome and disciplining. I'll go back to lurking, now!
Ha!
Oh, please!
