SIOUX CITY, Iowa President Bush will tour hurricane damage in Florida today on a trip that, while considered official White House business, also provides political opportunities in a state he barely won in 2000.
"Many lives have been affected by this hurricane," he told a campaign rally here. "I know you join me in sending our prayers to those people who look for solace and help."

Meanwhile, Gallup has released a poll showing the president's approval rating up to 51 percent.
"No president that has been at or above 50 percent at this point in an election year has lost," Mr. Dowd added. "That is a good sign for the president's re-election."

The devastation in Florida is tragic, but this could help Bush's campaign. I say give them the sun, the moon and the stars. Make them love you George.
If this sounds opportunistic, so be it. We cannot allow that treasonous, lying creep sKerry in the White House. The end justifies the means.

I am sure the Dims and their chorus of Media whores will be calling for Bush to resign so as not to give the impression that his trip is politically motivated.

Meanwhile, Lurch is staying away.
Good. The people of Florida have enough trauma to deal with.

"Hopefully, Jed can play this up in Florida."
Thats a big question.
As noted from another thread, they are already blaming
the Bush brothers for the Hurricane damage.
Never underestimate the number of morons in Florida.

How long do you think Lurch will really stay out of this?
Hey since your from WV, do you know if polls conducted by local papers and local TV, show Kerry with the same "lead" he has in WV state polls conducted by the national media?

How do we know the money people send to the red cross will actually make it to the people of FL? Instead of the rc general fund.

You don't and most of it won't even make the general fund. The sham that was exposed in 911 was astounding.
Still its better than something with leftist & anti-relgious like the UnitedWay.
Bush is now going to given an opportunity to pour money into FL under his administration and that can't hurt his standing in the state any.

The end justifies the means. No, it doesn't. That's part of the political ideology of dictators, which we should despise.

No, it doesn't. That's part of the political ideology of dictators, which we should despise.I was referring to this case, so spare me the dictatorship crap.
It's the leftie's job to compare the Administration to dictators..e.g Hitler.
So yes, I think Bush should go the extra mile in Florida. First, because it's the right thing to do. Secondly, earning extra votes would be a good thing.
If it's opportunistic, so be it. The end justifies the means this time.

He's already approved disaster funds. What more is there to do? What means are justified? You want the president to STEAL money to give it to Florida? Authorize a military takeover of foreign oil fields to provide income for Florida?
These are ridiculous ideas, but when you say the end justifies the means, that is a non-exclusive statement. You DO understand that and its implications, don't you?
I mean, if the end, getting President Bush re-elected, justifies the means "in this case," then after this where would you draw the line? It's a slippery slope.
When you deal with the devil, the deal never ends where you think it should.

the popular vote may be slightly unhinged from the electoral college, although I would think that it would be unhinged in the democrats direction. but that doesn't seem to be the case, since kerry has an advantage when you calculate electoral college votes based on state-by-state polls. it seems peculiar that bush leads in a nationwide poll.
