In light of recent comments by John Kerry "If I am elected president and the recommendations of the 9/11 commision are not in place, I will call an emergency session of congress to put them in place"
This is an opportunity the White House cannot pass up. The President should call an emergency session of congress to implement 9/11 commision recommendations immediately. Let the Democrats complain that it is political calling an emergency session on the eve of the DNC convention and all Bush has to say this is Leadership, this needs to happen now to make america safer. These recommendations are not partisan.
Although I have not read the report fully, I am sure that there are some measures in the report that the Dems may not want implemented and any "no" vote will sure to get the american publics attention prior to NOV 02.
What do you think?
Which is why we have the system we have. People grumble about gridlock. Can you imagine if the government was actually efficient?
A dictatorship is the most efficient, smoothest running government around. And not the sort of thing I want. Not even the benevolent kind.
Or to think with cept Dims and Trolls that is
Must be a slow day over at DU ....
PS in case nobody told you the government is NOT your friend.

"If I am elected president and there has still not been sufficient progress on these issues, I will not wait a single day more. I will lead," he said in the statement.

This what Kerry said: "If I am elected president and there has still not been sufficient progress on these issues, I will not wait a single day more. I will lead," he said in the statement.

The 9/11 Commission recommendations have already been in place, put there by this Administration all during 9/2001.
To think otherwise is to miss the point of the rhetorical work of this bogus "Commission" which would be understandable if you were 12 years old, but not understandable if you are not 12 years old.

Uhhhhhhh, Tom? Ya there, Tommy boy?
You're nuts. Someone recommending something doesn't make it a good idea or a workable idea. I would favor calling on congress to discuss the ideas presented and work on a bill; but, one doesn't need an emergency session to do it.
Maybe we can get them to put a stop to outsourcing American jobs at the same time.. Compare likelihoods and you'd be more likely to get neither done.
It gives us plenty of time to look at it, mull it over, kick it around and do some research. There should be a rule that only clean bills can be presented, (no riders) and they need to be publicly published for at least six months before they go to vote.
Have them read on NPR. It couldn't be anymore boring then what they have already.
Kerry probably hasn't had the time to read the report.
No, there would be no need to call a specail session of congress on the day that Kerry might take office, it would already be in session. It does seem as thought Kerry is almost daring Bush to call a special session, though. It also seems as though Kerry may have been allowed to read the report before congress or the president.
