EMERGENCY SESSION OF CONGRESS ON EVE OF DNC's CONVENTION

Posted on 07/22/2004 10:49:16 AM PDT by tomnbeverly

In light of recent comments by John Kerry "If I am elected president and the recommendations of the 9/11 commision are not in place, I will call an emergency session of congress to put them in place"

This is an opportunity the White House cannot pass up. The President should call an emergency session of congress to implement 9/11 commision recommendations immediately. Let the Democrats complain that it is political calling an emergency session on the eve of the DNC convention and all Bush has to say this is Leadership, this needs to happen now to make america safer. These recommendations are not partisan.

Although I have not read the report fully, I am sure that there are some measures in the report that the Dems may not want implemented and any "no" vote will sure to get the american publics attention prior to NOV 02.

What do you think?

Implement the 9/11 Commission recommendation immediately? Are you willing to give the president more than a few hours to read the report which he just received today before deciding whether there were good ideas or not?

Welcome to Free Republic, btw.

If my argument is that the commission is a partisan hoax full of crap (which it is), then I'm in no hurry to implement anything.

Its not really a BAD idea. But, anything that would happen that fast is wrought with problems. So, I'd say no, but the premise is a good thought in my opinion.

Although an emergency session with REQUIRED attendance by all SENATORS, to STUDY the report, might not be a bad idea.
How about next week?

Yeah! That's it! Let's just rush right off and do it without actually looking at it, and coming up with plans to implement any of the recommendations, study the effects they would have etc! Yeah, let's get right on that!

(Get a clue)

Hasty action in government is BAD. No matter what the motivation.

I thnk we would be better served allowing the President and his staff, particularly the NSA, to digest the information completely before doing anything....let alone something this blatantly political.

And I don't want anything to interrupt what I believe will be the Kerry Campaign's "Waterloo" next week in Boston. These idiots can't help but go "Whoopi" when they are in front of a crowd.

Its going to be the Wellstone Funeral all over again. Can't wait.....LOL!

I'm not talking about that, whatever you mean. I'm talking about two brown eyes planted right where everyone has two eyes, on their face.

Think about it.

Has John Kerry even read the report? Or is he, as usual, allowing his mouth to overrule his pea brain?

Except that we know that certain parts of the recommendations should never, ever be implemented. (I'm thinking of a single unelected bureaucrat that controls all intelligence gathered, think J. Edgar Hoover times 10.) I'm sure there are other things that are bad ideas. I think everyone needs to digest this before implementing any of it.

"I will convene an Emergency Security Summit that brings together leading Democratic and Republican members of Congress, leaders of the agencies that play a vital role in our fight against terrorism and the 9/11 Commissioners."

Not what Kerry said.

Where did I put that can of Troll-B-Gon
