CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The search for 27-year-old Lori Hacking has made an unlikely connection between Salt Lake City and Chapel Hill.Lori Hacking reportedly left her Salt Lake home around daybreak Monday to go jogging and has not been seen since. Mark Hacking, Lori's husband, told family, investigators and the media that he and his wife had planned to move to Chapel Hill to attend medical school, but on Wednesday, WRAL learned that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has no record of Mark Hacking and that he is not registered to be a student at the medical school this fall. UNC officials also told WRAL that Mark Hacking never even applied to the school. WRAL also checked with Duke Medical School, and Hacking is not registered at that school. WRAL spoke with investigators in Utah and they have no explanation at this point as to why Hacking would lead people to believe he was coming to school in Chapel Hill.

The article refererenced above says they took a trashbin from inside the couple's apartment. His family believed he graduated from college and was accepted into med school. He never actually graduated, and could not have applied to med school-- so he was lying to everyone it seems.
I hope it turns out he is not involved in his wife's disappearance, but the police are sure leaning in that direction.
This brings chills up my spine. My youngest daughters name is Lori.

Here's something I want to know: Okay, we now know that HE was not going to med school, and in fact he hadn't even gotten his bachelor's degree. But what I want to know is, was SHE really going to medical school this fall??
I am. I know Dr Douglas Hacking quite well (Mark's father). I just saw the news conference with both sets of parents. I'm really hoping that this is just a sidelight, but...
The local news said that about 300 people showed up to search today. They also said that there was confusion over where to report for the search. I think tomorrow will be a better gauge of the new news and its impact on the searchers. Unfortunately, I think few will turn out tomorrow.
The area is quite a popular jogging place in SLC. She ran three times a week for four years in the same area. her husband said that he usually went with her.
Word is that he's under a suicide watch.
I haven't heard that one. All I've heard is that Mark Hacking had applied to medical school in NC, was accepted, and they were driving back tomorrow. They had an apartment picked out and their stuff was packed.
I didn't see the whole press conference, just what they showed on the late news. Disclaimer: I know the parents of Mark Hacking (professionally.) What I saw was a man who was in a state of shock and disbelief about his son. Again, I didn't hear all the comments.
In some states, like PA, a married woman can abort without consultation or consent of the father, her husband.

Originally I thought I'd heard that both of them were going to medical school. At this point we know the husband wasn't going to med school, though--he hasn't even finished undergrad.
His poor parents. How embarrassing to be lied to like that.
And now he's checked into the psychiatric ward. I heard that he used to work in the psychiatric ward, but now he's a patient! Coincidentally, when you're in the psychiatric ward, parents, police, and media can't bug you...
This is not looking good.
