A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"God I miss my Mom.. we had great talks, she died on my birthday 5 years ago.."

"My Momma passed away in Feb. of '98, I miss her dreadfully. We were roommates for 10 years after Daddy passed away. She was my best friend."

Consider then, how blessed you were.
The last time I saw my mother was when I was 27 and she and Daddy put the boys and me on the plane in Florida to join Bernie in South Dakota. We wrote often, and when a year later my daughter was born, we could not go back to Florida to show her to my parents.
Instead, when the baby was 2 months old, we drove to Fairbanks, Alaska for 3 1/2 years.

Mom then (when I was 29) had a blockage in her carotid artery found on a Friday while hospitalized, scheduled for surgery Monday a.m. - and the clot traveled and burst behind one eye on Saturday night. She was left paralyzed; blind; and unable to speak for a year and a half.

You were by comparison fortunate to have your mothers as long as you did.
I had no way to visit her or talk with her - and had just turned 31 when my mother died on my second son's 10th birthday....getting the telegram while I sat just under the Arctic Circle - never had a chance to see her or tell her goodbye.

My comfort, though, was a conversation we had before I left. Knowing I was apt to be far away if either she or Daddy died, she told me to not worry about "being there," for they would know I was in spirit, as they would be for me - always.

My sister and I marvel that in all of our life, Mom *never* *ever* raised her voice at us!
She was so dear and loving and intelligent and capable you wanted more than anything to please her! A true Southern Woman, dixie - - -

Brought a picture of Rusty over if anyone hasn't seen him yet.

He looks like a good dog Dutchess. Reminds me a little of Daisy Mae with those flop ears.

Evening, Cuzzin and BIS --- another nice day here, and I did some yard work this afternoon.

It began as clearing some of the trimming debris I created earlier in the week from a hedge by the runoff creek.

Did that, and promptly trimmed *5 times as much more* and now have two large piles to haul across the street in the morning.
They pick up such stuff on Saturdays in my neighborood.

Love summer days when the humidity is low!

""Texas is South Carolina on Steroids"."

LOL, dixie.
Sometimes we *need* jolting, kinda 'laid back' and easy going - unless There Is A Cause to which to respond..:))
Then it's "LOOK OUT!" and "GET OUT OF OUR WAY"!!!

I'm privileged to live in a small, extremely conservative pocket of humanity on the west side of the state, where they are patriotic to the max and fully support the troops and The President.

They are big on church going, celebrations and parades and pep rallies for the schools, etc., and the barber shop on the circle by the courthouse is the political axis..:))

Maggie, I'm still chuckling over that. In our own quiet, laid back way we manage to accomplish a great deal!

"Maggie, I'm still chuckling over that. In our own quiet, laid back way we manage to accomplish a great deal!"

Don't you love to see the misperceptions some "Others" have of true Southerners?!
They equate 'slower speech' with 'slow minds' and have no idea how we laugh over that.
We're kinda like tigers or lions lazing in the warm sun, evoking a smile from the onlookers.

Prod us with a stick, though, and we become their worst nightmare - LOL - but in THE most CIVIL of ways, doncha know...:))

(We just don't need to 'prove ourselves' all the time...)

We wimmin are sometimes acused of having iron hands in velvet gloves --- soft and pliable ordinarily, but don't try to fool or mess with us...

I often think that we're so slap happy to be here in the South that it makes us look silly to others. We're really just extremely happy.

More Political Humor (Or is it truth?)

John Edwards and two friends - a Rabbi and a Hindu holy man - had car trouble in the countryside and asked to spend the night with a farmer. The farmer said, "There might be a problem because I only have room for two to sleep in the house. So, one of you must sleep in the barn."
"No problem," chimed the Rabbi. "My people wandered in the desert for forty years. I am humble enough to sleep in the barn for one evening." With that he departed to the barn, and the others bedded down for the night.

Moments later a knock was heard at the door. The farmer opened the door and there stood the Rabbi. "What's wrong?" asked the farmer. He replied, "I am grateful to you, but I just can't sleep in the barn. There is a pig in the barn and my faith believes that is an unclean animal."

His Hindu friend agrees to swap places with him, but a few minutes later the same scene reoccurs. There is a knock at the door. "What's wrong?" the farmer asks. The Hindu holy man replies, "I, too" am grateful for your helping us out, but there is a cow in the barn. In my country cows are considered sacred and I can't sleep on holy ground."

That left only John Edwards to make the change. He grumbled and complained, but went out to the barn. Moments later there was another knock on the farmer's door. Frustrated and tired, the farmer opens the door, and there stood the pig and the cow.

I was definatley Blessed to have my Mom for so long..

The lsat time I saw her was when Abram was to be born, he is 12.
I flew her out here to Buffalo from Tucson. She was to stay a month.
2 weeks before and 2 weeks after. Well Jul carried him over, the month passed and my step father demanded my mother leave with him. A couple days later Abram was born.
I didn't see my Mom after that.

When Lilly was born she was to come out and spend some time with us the next summer but things would change quickly.

When Dorinda got married, soon after she had a stroke, she was going thru therapy, lost use of some of her right side. At one point my step cut off communication with us all. I was ready to drive out there with my brother Bill from Massachusetts. Finally my brother kevin called from Arizona he said that he had talked to her and things seemed to be fine.

My Mom called me, she sounded drunk, I let Jul talk to her and the conversation ended. That was the last time I ever spoke to her, she sounded upset, depressed, I was concerned still.

It wasn't long after that when my sis Dorinda called me on the morning of my Birthday that my Mom had died.

By that night I was in Tucson. I took care of all the arrangements, buried my Mom and fell apart when I got home.
That summer my stepfather came to visit, that is when Jul fell apart, she went to make my step a cup of tea, she was gone for to long, I went into the kitchen and there she was crying her heart out.
All she could say was, It's suppose to be Mom in the other room Rus, it's suppose to be Moms Mably.

If I knew then what I have found out over the past 5 years, I would have demanded an autopsy.

My Birthday is my Moms Birthday into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Some one else will have to answer to Him at a later date.
there were some strange things that happened that someone will have to be held accountable for and that is all I will say.

Does anyone know how to interpet a coroners report?
I have it, and ther are some strange things on it..

Sending this angel to watch over
each and every one of you --

Turning the lights down low - tidied up -
whipped up a midnight buffet for the Westies
and other latecomers.

and for you, Rus, and other early risers,
for in the morning,
here is some sustenance to go with The Daily Bread:
