Today Show: Newt Calls Kerry Campaign Spokesman's Foreign Policy Bluff
The Today Show

Posted on 07/13/2004 4:34:03 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Something important just happened. Newt Gingrich called the foreign policy bluff of the Kerry campaign. And with the chips on the table, the Kerry spokesman folded.

We won't dwell on the fact that Katie accorded Holbrooke both the opening and the closing statements in the interview, or that she cut Newt off when he first tried to respond, insisting instead on airing some footage of Kerry taking shots at W.

No, let's cut to the chase. The subject was North Korea and its nuclear program. Holbrooke waxed on about the Bush administration wasn't doing enough "to put pressure on N. Korea."

Finally Newt had his say. "So, what would the Kerry administration do differently? Would you attack N. Korea?"

Newt repeated the question a number of times. Holbrooke refusing to answer. Finally, cornered, this was the sum and substance of what Holbrooke came up with: "well, we should continue the six party talks now underway, but the US should also speak directly with N. Korea."

Newt pounced. "That's it? We should speak directly with N. Korea? That's going to 'put pressure' on them?"

It was a seminal moment. Pull back the curtain on the Kerry foreign policy and what do you find? Nothing. Some vague notions that we should be nicer to Jacques Chirac, and talk directly with Kim Jung Il. Thanks very much, and don't forget the lovely parting gifts.

Boston Herald | Tuesday, July 13, 2004 | By David R. Guarino
Read Guarino's Road to Boston Blog Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] upset some families of 9/11 victims yesterday when he arrived - late - to a private memorial dedication in a sirened motorcade and glad-handed as though he were on the campaign trail. The senator, in Boston for the day, hopped in his motorcade at the Four Seasons, drove around the Boston Public Garden and arrived at the memorial with his sizable entourage in tow. Press were kept away but several family members, speaking privately, said they were miffed that Kerry arrived after most other pols - such as...

Retreads from the Clinton Administration.

Although many astute FReepers are aware, I should have made clear that the Kerry campaign spokesman was Richard Holbrooke, former Clinton admin State Department official, foreign policy advisor to Kerry, and Washington's most (self)-important man.

Thanks, GLG!

Good for Newt! He is our most intelligent and articulate spokesman and he doesn't have to worry about votes.

He was on with O'Reilly last night and did a very good job.

I think O'Reilly plans on using Newt frequently to explain what's really going on in the political world. (I sure hope so; O'Reilly doesn't have a clue.)

I think a lot of mistakes have been made in Iraq as well

True enough but that statement can be said for every war we've ever been in. Look at all the 'mistakes' that happened on D-Day, Tarawa, Iwo Jima. Despite those mistakes, we learned and we won. Same thing is happening in Iraq. We've never fought this kind of war so mistakes are natural. What's important are the overall results which, no surprise, have gone generally well and unreported.

Sure, it's not all sweetness and light, but what student of history would have ever thought it would be?

Bingo.

Prior to Afghanistan, the Left (I mean the media) was very clear on the subject: NOBODY could ever win a war in Afghanistan. Britian, Russia, everybody was humiliated when they tried it. But now? The country is free, a real government is installed, and elections are coming. But the Left calls it a disaster.

Prior to Iraq, the Left (I mean the media) was very clear on the subject: It would be a bloodbath and a quagmire. But now? The country is free, a real government is installed, and elections are coming. But the Left calls it a disaster.

As another poster on this thread said -- tell me what success looks like??

Oh come on, you know the democrats have Jimma and Maddie waiting in the wings. Who knows, perhaps they'll call in Clarke to set things straight.

Michael Moore will be Secretary of Dense. Hillary will finally give up, withdraw from the Senate and be appointed as Ambassador to Transylvania.

Bill Clinton will spend time in the Lincoln Bedroom during the nocturn whipping out his extern for an intern.

Everything will be hoakie dorie.

;)

If more conservatives/Republicans would start calling the Dems on their lies and not let them slide off the hook, more and more the empty Kerry will show through.

E. D. Hill on Fox and Friends did that to one of Kerry's mouthpieces about 2 months ago. He was saying the standard Kerry-ism -- "Kerry has a plan, but George Bush is..." At that point E. D. interrupted and asked for details of 'the plan.' Mouthpiece tried to sidestep and get back on the talkingpoints. E. D. interrupted him again and asked for specifics of the plan. The guy had none. E. D. kind of snickered as the guy sat there squirming.

Too many times the Dems' lies are allowed to slip right through without any counter. Watch the tapes of Sens. Roberts and Rockerfeller the last few days. Roberts only made pathetically weak responses to Rockerfeller's politicizing of the Senate Intelligence report.

Remember to also send your very 'pretty and sexy' Albright to handle the details.

Don't forgot about the new secret weapon, the pretty silky pony, Edwards!
