Scenes in Fahrenheit 911 of U.S. soldiers taunting and sexually humiliating Iraqi civilians following the successful invasion were shot by Urban Hamid, an embedded Swedish-Iraqi journalist who is presently a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado, the university's student newspaper Camera disclosed today (Tuesday). Moore has declined to respond to questions from interviewers about whether he resorted to subterfuge in order to embed photographers among U.S. forces and has been criticized for not showing footage of the abuses to U.S. military authorities earlier. But Camera reported that the controversial footage by Hamid was actually shown at a theater in Boulder as long ago as March 1 and was subsequently brought to Moore's attention. Hamid, who has lived in the U.S. for the past 12 years, told the newspaper that he has returned to Iraq three times in the past year, presumably to continue to document the course of the war. "Every time I go back, it seems it's gotten worse ... When I last went back, people were so tired and exhausted and had lost hope. It's extremely sad to see."
Namn: hugo Skickat: 17.51 - 5/1 you are a legend, jamal! this site is real quality. happy new year and a peaceful trip through iraq to you. I am just beginning a new internship with a company that deals with the middle east here in london. i'm on my first day.....but wishing i was out there dodging bullets with uncle j! take care, hugo
Hamid, who once lived in Boulder for several years and attended the University of Colorado, went back to Iraq in early April. On his way to Baghdad from Amman, Jordan, he became wrapped up with the so-called Saraya al-Mujahedin, or Mujahedin Brigades, a name previously unfamiliar to the worldthat is, until they kidnapped Japanese civilians (reportedly two humanitarian volunteers and a photojournalist) and threatened to burn them alive if Japan didnt withdraw its 550 troops from Iraq. As of press time, various reports had confirmed those hostages were still being held, and seven Chinese citizens were taken captive on April 11.
My what a small, small world...
First old Hamid is with the Japanese who were taken hostage, then later he gets caught with South Koreans who also were taken hostage. Is Hamid luring these folks onto thin ice on behalf of the insurgents?
That's really interesting Piasa.
Thank you.
Another name associated with Colorado is James Ujaama from the Seattle al Qaeda cell. He was born in Colorado and returned there shortly before his arrest.
(No connection that I know of, just trivia.)
This is an interesting thread...fyi
Small world.
Thanks!--someone else was just telling me to check that out so I was headed over there--great minds think alike :)
Was Berg sending coded messages? Yes. The e-mails seem to be full of double-speak and inuendo only close acquaintances would understand. Like 'dividends for shareholders' - sounds like results for his supporters - and Alice's Restaurant/Arlo Guthrie, well, why even bring that into it? It seems so out of place. He was arrested and released. What has that reference to do with the time he spent in jail? He was 26. That song was playing in 1970!
It's hard to tell or make much sense out of the e-mails. He sounds as if he isn't 'all there' several comments have been made that Berg sounds as if he's a 'flake' - could that be because his e-mails aren't meant to make sense...unless you know the code?
Read carefully post 162 from piasa. Ties in with what happened to Nick.
Remember Nick rang Aziz and said - I have met some nice people who have offered me a lift - (paraphrase) and that was the last time anyone heard from him. Hamid, what are you?
Hamid was 'captured for an hour' and let go when he explained he was half Iraqi. He says he was 'reunited with his driver'
I bet that's the only time a taxi waited around after his fare was taken by a bunch of terrorists!
I'm much impressed by the details you have set out. It's really incredible, this octupus has so many long tentacles. If anyones till believes that Nick only went to Iraq to climb towers/find work and do good deeds...you know what 'they' say...I have a perfectly good bridge to sell.
1970: Arlo Guthries interminable "Alices Restaurant" was playing when KPFT was blown off the air by a dynamite attack on their transmitter ..the first station to be so targeted in the history of broadcast radio.
Many tentacles, indeed!

Please list what those good things are. (I know, I know, we've captured Saddam; but it's not as if that hasn't been reported) . We were first told that the Iraqi people would shower us with flowers after the invasion. Didn't happen -- or at least there seemed to be as many violent types as friendly welcomers. Then, we were told that the violence would die down when Saddam was captured. Hasn't happened. Now we're told the power transfer will change everything. Hope it does, but given how the rosy promises to date have failed to play out, I'm not holding my breath.

I've been reading all the wonderful posts on the handover thread -

CONGRATULATIONS IRAQ! CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT BUSH!
(And there's an uncomfirmed report Zaqwari may have been captured.)
Last but not least, the Marine in the hands of the terrorists is a Lebanese Muslim- who may have deserted.
I don't know if I can stand so much good news in one day.
Bush-Cheney 2004!
Who is Michael Moore? What film? Who is John Kerry?

As Piasa, notes, below, it appears that Hamid might have leading/luring the Japanese and S Koreans into traps.
It would be very interesting if a couple of S Korean Commandos got to interview Hamid.
First old Hamid is with the Japanese who were taken hostage, then later he gets caught with South Koreans who also were taken hostage. Is Hamid luring these folks onto thin ice on behalf of the insurgents?
Another name associated with Colorado is James Ujaama from the Seattle al Qaeda cell. He was born in Colorado and returned there shortly before his arrest.
Actually, Ujaama was a member of the Portland 7. Most of whom are in jail now or dead. Those in jail admitted their treason to America.
Thanks........We must have jammed their server, because now when I go back to "InterTran" it tells me to "Try Back" hahahah...Behold the power of FR!!!!
It's "Iraqi Independence Day" and it's a great day for all of us who love FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!
