If the election stays as close as it seems right now (3 plus or minus percentage points), it wouldn't take much to sway the election one way or the other.
Remember, GWB, rather than Al Gore, is President because of slightly more than 600 votes in Florida.
If the 2004 is as close, 'external events and influences' could have a significant impact when we consider than only a few hundred votes in many states could decide the election.
This poor guy was pleading for his life for the first half of it, with three of the murderers standing behind him.

I am basing that opinion on some of the signs developing after the recent beheadings. Perhaps "open season" is overstating it ... but I would not want to be a Muslim in the US after we are hit again. Their PR, as run from CAIR and AMC, has been horrible, and a backlash will happen in some manner. I am not condoning it, but I am predicting it.
At least it was over quickly, when the cutting actually began. But such horror the poor young man must have felt. The Lord will have His day.
The difference between the U.S. and Spain is quite stark when it comes to this kind of thing. If a Madrid-style attack against the U.S. were to occur in the weeks before the November election, the public reaction would be the exact opposite -- and not necessarily in a good way. Under such a scenario, the sitting President could virtually assure his re-election (by a 538-0 margin in the electoral college, no less) by selecting a random Islamic capital (regardless of that nation's connection to the attack here in the U.S.) and turning it into a smoking ruins.

Korean Internet Users Launch Hacking Attacks on Ogrish.com
Korean Internet users have launched "Hacking of Fury" attacks on a website, Ogrish.com, which is trying to obtain and spread the video of Kim Sun-il’s decapitation. This site posted the unabridged video of Nicholas Berg’s beheading in May. The site enraged Korean Internet users by posting an advertisement looking for video of Kim's decapitation when Kim was kidnapped.
The site is posting a message on its main page that Kim has been decapitated and is asking people to send in videos or photos of Kim’s decapitation if they have them. In regards to this message, Korean Internet users have gone on collective hacking attacks on the website, saying, “We will punish a shameless website that is trying to commercialize the death of a man.”
Korean Internet users have posted ways to hack into Ogrish.com on various Korean websites like DC and are making all-out efforts to bring the website down. An Internet user resentfully suggested, “Let’s hack in to hang a Korean flag on the site... Spreading a video of the beheading is to ridicule the death of Kim Sun-il.” Korean Internet users have voiced concerns that a video of the beheading may be circulated around the world and this would be tantamount to killing Kim twice. Korean Internet users said, “Let’s join hands together to prevent the circulation of the video of Kim Sun-il who was killed undeservedly.”
Unfortunately these Korean hackers should be zapping Al Jazeera instead.

Well, you are absolutely right about that. If it was some sort of mob-type thing that the NG was called out to handle, it would be to protect Muslims.
But I am not seeing torch-burners roaming the streets hunting Muslims. I see leaders of Mosques and prominent Muslims, particularly the most vocal proponents of Jihad (such as the speaker at a recent graduation in California) developing high velocity lead poisoning while walking to their car one morning. It won't be out-in-the-street mobs. It will be quick, quiet, and professional.
Maybe I am wrong here. Maybe we (collectively) will acquiesce to terrorists hitting the country, and their proponents, supporters, and sympathizers living down the street from us.
But I doubt it.
Don't get me wrong friend. I am inclined to agree with you, but I don;t have anywhere near the certainty that I wouild like.
You are correct in all your observations and it makes logical sense. Then again, almost 1/2 the population, it seems, is lost in hand wringing, doubt, fear, self-blame, etc. With that many wildcards out there, I take nothing for granted.

It really becomes more and more incredible to believe these people are human beings.
Terrorists must not only be fought on the battlefield, but also with the termination of every man, woman, and child involved.
I've been thinking this as well in regard to this beheading trend that seems to be emerging. I can't imagine what will happen if they do something like that here in the continental US. That could result in the biggest manhunt in history on behalf of federal and local police agencies because the outrage it would cause would me monumental. I can only assume that if this has occurred to me, then it has occurred to them (Al Qaeda) as well.
