IN the race among Democrats to become John Kerry's running mate, former Sen. Sam Nunn, 65, is ahead by a nose. Sources say the FBI has started combing through records of his business dealings, reviewing files and relationships. No wonder they started early Nunn, a native of Georgia, serves on the boards of ChevronTexaco, Coca-Cola, Dell, GE, Internet Security Systems and Scientific-Atlanta, in addition to acting as co-chair and CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative. A rep for the Kerry campaign said, "We're not commenting on the process."

This could be bad. Nunn is actually competent.
SO9
I love Sam Nunn, but he'd be number 2 on a ticket with a true loser..Sorry..
Compared to Kerry .. any one is competent
I wonder if they'd make him have a firesale of life-long principles the way they did Lieberman in 2000.
Do you know you beat me by 1 minute? :-)
Actually, Nunn would be a good choice for Kerry.
Corporate giants, and John Kerry
Pray for W and Our Awesome Troops
It won't be Nunn. That would completely undermine four years of damning Dick Cheney as a "evil corporate member".
Smart money is on Gephardt, he literally has nothing to lose, brings a faux Union endorsement, and plays well with all sides within the Democratic Party.
Nunn's membership on various boards, as detailed above, would drive a significant portion of the Dem base to Nader, beyond whats already gone there, in my opinion.
Kinda hard to slam the Bush Administration as "Big Bad Oil Men" when Nunn is on Chevron's board.....
Sam Nunn was one of the strongest supporters of Reagan's Star Wars.
One potential problem, this would bring Georgia into play IMO. Sam Nunn is a vary popular man. Even I voted for him for Senate twice.
Nunn would definitely be a Pubbie these days. I don't know how Liebermann does it.
Would this shore up Kerry's Catholic base?
I concur, I actually met Sen. Nunn when he was joyriding USS Georgia during shakedown. A Scoop Jackson style Dim.
they are going to try the model Bush used in 2000...selecting a competant, veteran foreign policy guy. I think this would be an error. Kerry needs electoral votes. He needs to solidify a swing state or two.
Bush had the basis for the electoral votes, and needed the boost of a Washington foreign policy guy to win over the party faithful. It helped across the board. No particular state was won be cause of Cheney, but it added the 'credibility' factor.
Kerry needs more than a slight bump across the board. Bush has an electoral win going in, and Kerry needs to steal off key states.
Never happen. Nunn fought Clintoon to a standstill over gays-in-the-military. No way the 'RATs nominate someone who took a leadership position against them on a homosexual issue.
So was Lieberman, and we all know how that turned out...
******
Do you find it difficult being a Democrat these days? In terms of presidential politics at least, the party has seemed bent on self-destruction over the past couple of decades.
Nunn: I have enjoyed being in the Democratic Party. If you look at the whole realm of history, most of the lasting achievements both in foreign policy and domestic policy have come in Democratic administrations.
I am uncomfortable with the post-Vietnam War Democratic National Party and its liberal image.
This is a ploy by the Dems!!!
Some unsuspecting voters, who are not thrilled with either Bush or Kerry, will see the name Nunn on the ballot and think they're voting for None!!
Bump this comment from another Georgian. It sure would make it a contest here. I wonder how Sen. Nunn feels about it? He seems more like a Zell Miller dem than a Kerry dem.
