"We in the media failed the nation by not reporting these things about Reagan at the time.
"I have learned a lot about this side of Ronald Reagan...things I never new before. So I, too, have failed America."
[paraphrased]
More..
Bernard Shaw: "Can I say something that touches on a very sensitive issue? The news media, and how we failed to thoroughly cover and communicate the very essences we're talking about possessed by Ronald Reagan. What I've been reading and what I've been hearing, I did not get during his two terms in office. Or did I miss something?" Wolf Blitzer: "I think you're on to something, Bernie, uh.. "
Shaw: "I think we failed our viewers, listeners and readers to an appreciable extent. I can't quantify it, but I'll put it there. Because I certainly missed a lot."

My overcoat business in Hell may finally start turning a profit.
What other excuse could he use after the outpouring of love for a great President by the people over the last week. Too bad, they haven't figured out all the other things they "missed" are what's causing cnn to into the dumper.
They'll be back to whoring for Kerry tomorrow.
Have you spoke to "Seinfeld"'s father? He was in the raincoat business!
"This is a huge victory, for them to say that means they are thinking that in those editorial rooms...."
Would that it were so but it isn't. I have been listening to the press carefully this week and there has been no acknowledgement from the Liberal press about how subtantively they were wrong on the major issues of the day. The historical facts are inarguable: communism collapsed and Reagn's economic policies set off a 16 year boom. The Liberal press will not admit this, of course, so they try to get away with the line that "gee, Regan was a nice guy and we did'n't report it". This is little more than dammning by faint praise.
The Liberal press predicted that Reganomics would double the inflation rate and cause the prime rate to go to 30%. Just the opposite occurred. The Liberal press predicted that Reagn's defense policies would cause World War Three. In reality, Reagn's peace through strength policy ended the Cold War and has greatly reduced the possbility of a nuclear war.
I suppose you are right on one point. to expect intellectual honesty from CNN and their ilk is a "bridge too far".
We saw it IN SPITE OF YOU!
Yes Wolf, that something is called liberal bias, something you and your like-minded colleagues have failed to acknowledge for decades.
While it appears Bernie is cleansing his soul...and I appreciate that, the media didn't fail to see another side of this man...they refused to see the otherside, as they were the ones who gave the impressions that Reagan didn't care about people, i.e., the homeless, blacks, etc.
I could almost accept this apology except that this media is doing the same thing to another man, who deep down, is also one of the most decent men in America. Bush loves his country, his wife...and does care about the welfare of others.
Liberals can't distinguish with conservatives, what at its heart, is nothing more than a philosophical difference of what government should be...and that they too, want what's best for this nation They have to attribute sinister motives to people...just as they did throughout Reagan's career, and now Bush's.
They didn't fail to see the man Reagan was...they refused, because such a perception would've run contrary to what they've been telling us all along.
"Mea culpa! Mea culpa! Mea maxima culpa!"
After such an earth-shaking confession, I wonder how much longer Bernie Shaw will be respected by unrepentant members of the media elite?
You're right. In fact, while the media is being congenial by saying how loved Reagan was; what a great communicator he was; what a affable fellow he was...they are intentionally failing to say what a great..or even good president, he was. Instead, they praise him in abstract terms, as if he was all about persona instead of substance. They're still insulting him (and us) under the guise of respect.
"How about telling the American people about the good things that are being done in Iraq right now ?"
DITTO!
Thanks for posting the picture of the Arkansas Prez and his New York semi-wife. This is the guy who wanted to speak at Ronald Reagan's funeral?
Holy s**t!
That be him.
Cynicism isn't pretty.
