Thatcher flies out for Reagan funeral
The Daily Telegraph ^ | June 8, 2004 | Staff

Baroness Thatcher is leaving London for Washington to attend the funeral service for President Ronald Reagan, who died on Saturday aged 93.

The former Prime Minister recorded a seven-minute tribute last February to the man she has described as "one of my closest political and dearest personal friends". This tribute will be played during the service.

Afterwards, Lady Thatcher will fly in Air Force One to California for the burial.

A close friend of Lady Thatcher's said that she was at the opera at Glyndebourne on Saturday when she first heard the news of President Reagan's death.

I really think Maggie is more popular in the US than in Britain.Great person and leader. Notice I did not say woman.

Lady Thatcher and Ronald Reagan in front of a segment of the wall they helped to take down.

Wonderful pictures and a beautiful salute to two incredibly special people. May the Lord bless Lady Thatcher as she makes this trip, which I'm sure will be difficult in many ways.

Wow! I actually recognize that section; it's the piece of the wall at Reagan's Library. Our family was just there two weeks ago, before any of this happened. I was grateful I was able to take my 13 year old and teach her a little about this man before we lost him. His death this week meant a little more to her because of the visit.

There were quite a few Thatcher memories there, it was so touching and welcome.

Has anyone started a list of known attendees at the funeral? Should be quite a list.

That would make a great thread. Wish I had the time/resources to do it.

Great news. I had the honor of attending the RNC Gala in 1994 at which Lady Thatcher and Pres. Reagan both attended and spoke. It was the greatest event I've ever attended as I had the great opportunity of seeing my 2 political heros in person. It also marked Reagan's final public speech.

Given her age and health, her attendance is in itself a tribute to President Reagan.
