Controversy develops over Reagan funeral speakers...
'President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was,' a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. 'He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet'...
CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST
Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."
The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.
Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.
Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.
"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.
Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.
The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Developing...
That will be quite a sight to behold. I went out and bought some tapes to tape the funeral. Now, it's just a matter of deciding which channel to watch it on. Probably cspan since they won't talk over everything.
Those two both act like conservatives.
I don't care how public this funeral is, I really think that Mrs. Reagan should be able to omit attendees. Of course, she is a lady, so she wouldn't eleminate billyblythe as a "guest." It still should be her call.
BTW: Who in the world would WANT to attend billyblythe's funeral?
I am so glad that Presidents do this. President Reagan always knew what the right thing to do was and it wasn't necessarily the easiest. Heard today that all living presidents have done the planning except for Clinton. Now, why doesn't that surprise me?
The only reason he got to stay in office is that the American people, and probably rightly so, loathe the kind of counter politiking that was going on at the time, and were a little antsy about replacing the Prez in such a manner. Instability is what they feared, but nobody respected the guy, NOBODY, except drooling, partisan stumps.
Perhaps protocol demands that he, as an ex-Prez, be invited to speak or at the very least be in attendance, but he's a dishonorable man, and everywhere he goes that looms large, it looms loud.
Who can blame Mrs. Reagan if she doesn't want to sully this last bit of time that President Reagan remains in the realm above ground. If Clinton had any decency, he would shut up and go away. But that's a pipe dream, because he doesn't get it, he never got it, and I'd be willing to bet that he never will.
waaaa waaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
You are so right! He will try to hog the limelight. I remember at the National Cathedral after one of the services for 9/11 when Bill, Hill, the kid and the entire
Bush family were there, when Bill stood outside at the entrance(Hillary and Chelsea ducking into a limo quickly)as the church emptied and practically begged for someone to stop and talk with him and amazingly the camera stayed on him while he made a fool of himself. He is the most pathetic, she is the most vile. The evil duo and their spawn will drip piousness and grief, lip biting, eye drooping, shoulder sagging for the cameras. Bill will approach everyone he can and will be ignored once more.
Nancy will not let him get away with any disrespectful antics. She does not suffer fools well and is no shrinking violet. She is in pain, but she will prevail. She has her family with her. Don't forget she is not in shock, it took at least 8 years of watching him go away and not being able to pull him back and 2 years of him not responding at all before he finally was released. I imagine she is relieved for him. She has been greiving for 10 years. It is an awful way to lose someone you love. When she laid her head on the casket I could just hear her sigh "Oh, Ronnie, my Love!"
Good God, Hillary is such a monster. No wonder Bill can't stand the woman. I hope Nancy Reagan snubs her.
And she should NOT have been invited to speak. The thought of her anywhere near Ronald Reagan makes me sick.
WHY SHOULD WE BE SUPRISED...WITH CLINTON, I MEAN DIDN'T HE TRY TO BUY HIMSELF A NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?
Well no kidding she should not! I hope you don't think I thought she should.
The idea!
For the record, I saw both of them cross themselves.
During this sad time, it is good that Bill Clinton is not the President. There are no obligations of protocol for Clinton to speak at the funeral service.
I think we all know the answer to that one. Slick wouldn't know shame if it was a fat intern and jumped up and bit him on his....well you know.
LOL, I just got back. Thanks for the laugh.
I've always pictured myself doing something brave like that and as I walk away hearing, "Get her name...and call the IRS." :)
Also, I had time to waste and went to DU. Get a load of this conspiracy theory:
Drudge is Rove's personal propaganda master...Bush Rove's/co thinks the "Clinton faithful" will attack the Reagan family no holds barred if it is rumored that Clinton has been snubbed by Nancy Reagan personally. Then of course phase two of their evil plot, would be to get the Reagan family so riled up that they will start defending bush to the death.
I cannot imagine any circumstance that Clinton, Carter and co, who trashed Ronald Reagan personally and ridiculed his accomplishments should be allowed to eulogize in death the man they dispised in life.
This is a State Funeral because the Reagan family chose it to be. To offer the highest tribute the country can give to one of its greatest Presidents . It is the protocol that the President while alive makes the arrangements which are periodically updated.
A funeral, even for a great man, a great American is to honor him and send him to his final rest. It is inappropriate to be "fair and balanced" politically towards those who hated Ronald Reagan in life and now seek to profit politically from his passing.
What would Clinton say? We come, not to praise Caesar, but to bury him.
I was wondering the same thing. But he's gained so much weight maybe....nah.
How can we forget what Clinton did in the Oval Office? Making out like Republicans and Conservatives were the enemies of America. Some people fell victim to the Lies of the left under the Clinton/Hillary/Gore watch. "They" must be very upset to be reminded of how wonderful President Reagan and how admired he was, non stop on all media outlets. "They"(Bubba, Hill, Gore) failed America, and "they" tried to discredit Republicans as a whole, with the VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY crap( sorry, the word just seemed to fit). Sorry lying scumbags , you lose.
