You know what is going to be heard dont you? The left will be saying that the right and president bush are trying to drag Nicks name through the mud.
But this is getting quite curious.
My bets are that since he has had contact with Mous-whatever and that he has relatives in Iraq + the fact his father is a known member of ANSWER the CIA thought they could get a spook on the inside of one of the cells, by being blatant about that also using those experiances as a selling point to the terrorists he managed to infiltrate a cell but they sniffed him out before any good could come of it. Or Nick being the strong Bush supporter he supposibly is and a pro-war support he supposebly is decided upon his own volition to attempt to gain intelligence on his own.

You are correct. They would simply be sending him to his death for no reason that I can fathom.

Now that's interesting. What was the implication about the pipe bomb?

I've been trying to come up with a plausible scenario... how about this:
1) Berg is a leftist and knows Moussoui.
2) Is recruited by Al-Q as a "lily white", as we know they are looking hard for, and as Tim McVeigh may have been (we'll never know now, will we?).
4) Leaves Iraq the first time in February, and returns in March.
3) Is picked up by Iraqi police for unknown reasons, and is released 13 days later after reportedly refusing offer by CPA for free trip home. Iraqi police deny picking him up. Why?
4) Somehow Berg is then kidnapped. It's fuzzy here, I don't know how that happened.
5) A month later is discovered "missing something" on overpass in B-diddy. Days later video of beheading released with spurious revenge claim.
Now, could it be that he was in cahoots with the Zarqawi gang, was picked up by Iraqi Police, released, and then executed for turning on his AQ cohorts? The International A.N.S.W.E.R. connection explains his willingness to go into the lions den. These people think the enemy of their enemy (us) is their friend. They don't realize that that doesn't apply to jews (in the arab mind).

I can't put my finger on it exactly. It's just a sense.

CIA......If he was CIA, it was one of the worst run operations ever. A Jewish last name, passport with Israeli stamp, etc.

There were some posts yesterday about the "Free Republic hit list." The Leftists were saying that since someone had posted an article linking Berg to International ANSWER, he was arrested and killed. I can't seem to find the article, however.
Except the ANSWER list (A "hit list"?! Preposterous. Not even the lefties called it that. Doug called it an "enemies list". HUGE diff) named the father, not Nick, and the leftists had to extend beyond the galaxy to contrive a theory that blamed the list--which was already public information and no secret--on the killing of Michael Berg's son Nick.
To: antaresequity
Respetfully, if I got freepmail telling me to stop digging into something because I wouldn't like the answer, I'd do two things:
1) ask why they think I won't like the answer;
2) ask what they know about the matter;
3) dig harder.

FYI. Didn't you speculate that the person killed in the video might not actually have been Nick Berg?
Not that this story necessarily points in that direction, but at least another angle to all this.

Half the Sooner football team are turncoats from Texas.... Heyyyy, I'm a transplanted Okie!LOL
To: MizSterious
The local media yesterday couldn't find anyone at OU who remembered him. No one person. 'Course, he was only "there" for one semester.
I did find it curious that someone in Iraq on "humanitarian" grounds was spotted near sensitive installations a number of times, hence his detention and visits with the FBI.
BTW, more John Doe #2 testimony in the Nichols trial today...
To: Reactionary
It didn't work out that way in the end, however.
Whatever the truth, daddy Berg is sure trying to get as much political mileage out of his own son's death as possible. If it does, indeed, turn out that the son was a Left-wing activist over there to offer himself as a phony hostage (like the Japanese a few weeks ago)...well, there are no words, just lots of very hot emotion...

This is something I wondered about. How can Joe Citizen just "go" to Iraq?Don't know, I've had no desire to go, but I doubt travel would be restricted. Worst case, a complicated visa procedure (who issue the visa?). He seemed to have a relevant business reason, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Exactly right, Southack.
Nick Berg is his true name.
In fact, a FReeper knows him

A new bit of information: There is someone that I know that was hired by Nick Berg in January to do his payroll.
My question and I'm sure this is totally irrelevant: Why would someone hire a company to do payroll for 2 people?

Use your head. The CIA isn't going to send a Jewish kid into an Islamic lion's den with his real (Jewish) name and real passport...a passport that had his visit to Israel stamped in it. This fact defies all logic otherwise as well. Unless one is suicidal, totally stupid, or 'feels safe doing so', who in the hell would ever travel freely in Iraq as a solo with an American passport, with a Jewish name, and an Israeli validation?
This is beyond comprehension...any thoughts?
