Oklahoma lawmakers see new abuse photos
Inhofe says fresh images aren't that much worse.
By Chris Casteel, Washington Bureau
Oklahoma federal lawmakers Wednesday viewed fresh photos of Iraqi prisoner abuse at the hands of American soldiers.
Sen Jim Inhofe, R-Tulsa, said the photos were "actually nothing much different than we've already seen. I was surprised. I was expecting to see things that were a whole lot worse.
"A lot of the pictures didn't have any of the detainees in them. They showed seriouis behavioral problems by the seven prison guards."
He said the pictures shouldl not have been taken because it is against the Geneva Convention to prhotograph prisoners. But he said the fact that the behavior was investigated and the garduards are being charged "shows that part of the system is working."
Outraged at outrage
Inhofe, who said Tuesday that he was more outraged at the outrage than he was at the treatment of the prisoners, said Wednesday that he didn't think the prictures viewed privately by lawmakers should be released by the government. But he said he had no doubt they would get out somehow.
Sen. Don Nickles, R-Ponca City, viewed the Pentagon photos Wednesday and released a statement about the entire situation.
"The photos from Abu Ghraib Prison have damaged our efforts to restor peace, freedom and stable government to Iraq," Nickles said.
"The individuals responsible for these criminal actions should -- and I believe will -- be brought to justice as as possible. As of now, I have no reason to believe that this is anything but the action of a few bad individuals."

I was watching Hannity and Colmes the other night (5/10) and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif. basically told Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., that Ted Kennedy had no business opening his mouth regarding much of anything considering what he did to Mary Jo Kopechne. I thought "about damn time" someone said this and the next day I called Rohrabacher's Washington office and talked to a very nice young lady. She said that "Rohrabacher pulls no punches and that the truth hurts".
Kennedy, like a lot of the people on the left, is just insane.
Oh, and and another thing. Why are Democrats such fakes? I'm not speaking of there obvious fakery on issues. I'm talking about the physical fakery. John Kerry has had all sorts of work done to his face. Botex, etc. Hillary has had face lifts. That Pelosi woman looks like they jammed a stick thru the skin at the top of her head and started turning the stick round and round. Joe Biden has DOLL HAIR. DOLL HAIR! Al Gore must have been the only guy to buy that "instant hair" spray they used to sell on the TV informercials. Oh, and remember Al Gore and his "crotch sock" on the cover of Rolling Stone?
And Ted Kennedy. Look at these fake blue eyes.
I mean, really, if a person doesn't know what they are how can anyone expect them to know who there are?

More honest talk from Senator InhofeYour posts are right on - again! One would think that out of a body of 100 senators, there would be at least a few with a spine. Nope! Wrong! Only ONE!

Inhofe: "...actually nothing much different than we've already seen. I was surprised. I was expecting to see things that were a whole lot worse."
It was Republican Lindsey Graham who was out last week crying before a microphone that the world was ending, the worst is yet to come, the maiming, torturing, raping, pillaging the villages [ok, maybe not pillaging...]
I have to agree with Rush on this. Compared to the Nick Berg real torture and atrocity, the pix are blown well out of proportion.
Jay Rockerfeller, one who, by the way, was a recipient of one of those 17 January letters about prison abuse, was on FoxNews this morning spinning the lie about how bad the abuse (American side) was. He failed to mention the Berg torture and abuse. And he failed to mention he took no action back in January when he received the letter about prison abuses.
As for the prison abuse photos, some in the military acted like adolescents. They will be punished. To make much more out of this is political grandstanding. Where real crimes were committed, the perps will be punished.

I like hearing from Inhofe but am sometimes afraid that Nickles has become too staid and safe. I lived in Oklahoma for 20+ years and wrote him recently that he should use his status plus the fact that he has no reelection worries anymore to ruffle some feathers and get the Memogate memos investigated. He never wrote back nor has taken any action I am aware of.
PS - I wrote our Texas senators on various issues, too, but do not like Kay Bailey that much; our new fellow is looking good, though (darn brain f_rt on his name).

What I'm understanding from the media's offerings today is that the soldiers who actually did the abuse (of course, some called it "atrocity") are mere victims, that the real perp is Rumsfield. I'm not hearing a lot of outrage about real atrocities, such as beheading. I'm having a hard time understanding the logic, but that is often the case when listening to liberals.

Ron Wyden's comments on these new pics is the exact opposite of Senator Inhofe's. Wyden said they were much worse than he expected. Hmmmmmm.....who to believe. /sarcasm

Sen Cornyn -- Gramm was easier to spell -- have to think twice with the new Senator! :)
Sen Nickles comments left me unimpressed! In fact, a lot of his comments lately have left me feeling the same way. Glad he is retiring.
Now who do I support in our primary to replace Nickles -- Dr. Tom Coburn or Mayor Kirk Humphries?

I read where women detainees were forced to show their breasts.
This reminded me of Howard Stern shock programs where he'd get women to show their breasts, etc.
So glad he's gone.

Agree with you totally! Punish the people who broke the military code and that should be the end of it but not if the RATs can help!

"It's only about sex."
Yeah, somehow when the dems are on the short end of that sex schtick (pun intended, Slick), we're to move on and ignore it, even when it involves perjury before the Court.
When Republicans are in charge, and some underlings at the bottom of the military rungs have sex with each other and taunt prisoners via pictures, we're to be smothered 24/7 with it in the news media--even with faked porno pics on front pages--and there's no moving on.
Rummy gets run ragged before all types of Congressional Committees, his head is demanded by everso many dems, other people's heads are literally taken off, our military is besmirched before all the world, and Mooky al-Sodomiter has the dem talking points rolling off his lips ("It's just like VietNam," as they play out Mogadishu re-enactments, verbalizing that we're soft, have no will, and will get out soon.
Dems, there be lots of blood on your hands in this "case about sex." They're all about double standards and destruction, personal and country.

"The fact that Chuck Schumer said he was against releasing them leads me to believe that they are not much worse than the original photos."
My thoughts exactly! If there were something that could be used against Bush, Chucky would be going full-bore ahead.

It's an odd thing. Last night while channel surfing, I stopped on Fox News for awhile. Greta was on, and interviewing one of the interrogators at the prison. Did you see this? HE said he had not seen any of this during his stint there which included the earlier part of the time when these things happened. He also said none of his interpretors saw it either, and that for real interrogation, you had to have interpretors.
He claimed it had to have been a small clique who were not authorized to work in this way, or even that they were doing this at times when they knew no one else would be around because they knew it would get them in trouble. He seemed to question whether or not it was for interrogation or something else--without quite saying so.
So here's the odd part. Some who saw the new pictures/videos said they thought it looked like someone was trying to make porn films. This "Lindie" person was said to have been taped having sex with several U.S. military men, in fact. These new pictures/videos are said to contain more of this kind of thing than of the so-called abuse.
Now I'm looking for my tinfoil hat, because I can't help but wonder if that's exactly what they were doing: creating porn to sell on the internet, which is very lucrative.
