MONTVILLE -- For 45 years, John and Alice Longo laughed and joked with their regular customers while they wiped down the bar and took lunch orders during the afternoon at A and J's Cafe on Route 32.
But when they were forced to remove the ashtrays from the tables and bar, suddenly the laughter quieted.

Nothing new here. You don't hear the American Taliban decrying the human loss of employees lost jobs and owner's lower incomes.
The reason they don't cry is that the more alcohol vending establishments close, the happier they are.
Non smoking drinkers may be waking up to this phenomenon.
At least Austin TX had the guts to overthrow the ban.

But----but----smoking bans won't harm business according to the "experts".
Would they lie to us?

just in from Los Angeles - I kid you not- there is a proposal before council to OUTLAW smoking in a vehicle if children are in the car. LAPD would also be given the right of forfeiture under this Smoke with Kids in Car Lose Your Car proposal. Reported yesterday KABC AM 790 8pm newscast.

Non smoking drinkers may be waking up to this phenomenon. This non-smoking non-drinker is still p***ed at the continuing evisceration of property rights and rise of nanny-statism.

what I wonder is just who is going to enforce the beach smoking ban in santa moncia and LA city beaches??
To: markman46
good question - LA County is laying off sheriffs due to budget crunching and cutting loose the crooks because we no longer have enough room or guards to keep them - but smoking enforcement will be a priority especially with the NY police chief we now have in Lo Angeles - pot smoking at the beach of course will still be ok for medical purposes only...

what I wonder is just who is going to enforce the beach smoking ban in santa moncia and LA city beaches?? I'm sure the fines will be sufficient to make it a fine source of self-sustaining revenue. Five citations per day will cover pay and benefits for the duputy. Less dangerous than a typical traffic stop.

from what I understand, to smoke at the LA city beaches you either have to go to a parking lot or up on PCH which is not a very safe place to be. what are they going to do if someone just told the NO I will smoke any way?

We know these things, we document these things, we try to get the word out about these things.
What more can we do?
