Discussion Thread: Kerry's Appearance on GMA Regarding Medals
Good Morning America - ABC News

Let's see if I can kick this off.
During the promo at the beginning of the show, where he was standing by live in West Virginia, and throughout the interview itself, Kerry tried hard to keep this huge "what me worry?" smile plastered on his face. He coupled it with numerous condescending head shakes that seemed to imply "these poor benighted fools who so miserably misunderstand the greatness that is John Kerry."

Kerry, you threw your medals away. Those were given to you because you helped the Vietnamese people....Then you threw the Vietnamese people into the Soviet Trashcan. You helped the North Vietnamese and Cubans and Chinese and Soviets torture American POWs'. Your a disgrace. Keep smiling that chicken sh*t grin. Your in deep, way over your ugly head.

He repeated a dozen times 'Kerry the war hero.'When McAwful starts repeating a phrase over and over it is painful to all but a true koolaid drinker. His interview where he said "at the end of the day" about a bazillion times about had me reaching for the .357, good thing for my television it ended.

Kerry has absolutely no sense of humor or capacity for self-deprecation. Very true. When Clinton lied, he did with a half-smile to the interviewer, as if to say "I know it's a lie, YOU know it's a lie, and I'm not expecting you to believe it, but I AM expecting you to give it a pass for the Cause."
And the press slimeballs would adopt a BS-eating grin, give it a pass, and later - slap their knees, shake their heads, and say to each other "The boy is smooth, ain't he?"

He doesn't need the Conservative attack dogs after him; his own mouth is doing him in.I said before FR crashed:
Only problem with the way this campaign's going is that we barely get going on one Kerry gaffe (SUV's) before he changes the subject with a new gaffe! So little time, so many gaffes.

It would be fantastic to see it in print!
Did Charlie have his Wheaties this morning? Rent some backbone?
He actually tried to hold Kerry to the question vs. let him take jabs at the President. Kerry actually looked like he had some of the wind not out of his sails.
Why can't we have more of these kinds of interviews!!!

Leiberman and now Kyl. That's diplo-speak for "Man, this guys telling some whoppers!"
LOL!

Someone needs to explain to Kerry and the press the difference between ribbons and medals. Ribbons can be purchased at the base or post exchange. Medals are awarded.

Perhaps I will take a moment to let ABC know that I was pleasantly surprised at Charlies' effectiveness and would watch more ABC if I saw a lot more of it across the board.

From what I understand it is the actual Citation itself that is the important thing. Both medals and ribbons can be purchased as I understand. But I don't know if they are considered "absolutely interchangable"......

Good question. I think kerry's campaign is a farce and would not be surprised if he did not make it past the dnc convention. Nor would I be surprised if hillary jumped in to save the day.
Back in November, when dean was the candidate to beat, kerry was struggling to keep his campaign in the race. I thought he was toast at that time. Then he fired his campaign manager and brought in new blood to rally his supporters and shake things up. Around that time, dean flaked out and kerry moved into the lead. So kerry appeared re-invigorated, when perhaps all along, he was still toast.

If Kerry were at Chappaquiddick instead of Vietnam, he could've save Mary Jo Kopechne.

So Kerry appeared re-invigorated, when perhaps all along, he was still toast. Excellent analysis. It's not as if Kerry WON the nomination. Dean lost it. When Dean blew up, Dem voters looked around in a panic and threw their support to Kerry as a safe choice. He had not really earned their admiration or trust. And now it's too late!

He didn't throw the ribbons or the medals, naw... he tossed the tiny little safety pins that hold them! Yes, Kerry defiantly gathered each of the safety pins in his hand (risking great personal injury), and hurled 'em like a grenade! Sadly a pesky 2mph wind came up and they landed at his feet... Those dangerous pins could have ended up in his eyes! Oh the humanity!
Fortunately some world leaders had just returned from having lunch in NYC and using an empty Grey Poupon jar from their limo, put the pins in the jar, and with some help from someone who doesn't throw like a girl, tossed the offending safety pins.
Another proud Kerry moment.

Looking at those pictures, it's obvious what he meant now. He detached the ribbon part from his medals and chucked those (someone else's) ribbons over a fence.
Which makes him a slimy weasel.

Where did you get my first wife's brain scan?
To: prairiebreeze
When I was in you couldn't purchase the actual medal. Ribbons could be bought at the base exchange and sometimes at the Army/Navy surplus stores near the base.
This guy first says they voted to throw the medals over the fence and he didn't have time to go home and get his. Yet he had someone else's medals to throw over. I wonder what he was planning on doing with the other guy's medals if they hadn't voted to throw them over the fence.
Like an old man once told me, "If you don't lie, you don't have to remember what you said."
To: All
Oh, there was another lie that Kerry perpetrated.
Regarding the fact that he threw another veteran's medals over the fence rather than his own, Kerry twice told this whopper to Gibson:
"After the demonstration was over, I threw two medals over the fence that another veteran had given me and asked to throw. But everyone knows that I did that AFTER the demonstration."
In other words, I wasn't trying to deceive anyone into thinking I was throwing my own medals away. I waited until after the demonstration was over and then did my old war buddy a favor by throwing his medals over the fence.
Anyone believe this?
