Need Help From Freeper Females (vanity)
4/21/2004 | Jaysun

Some of the guys and I are presently at the camping lodge and we’ve got a problem that requires the help of a sensible woman. My brother-in-law managed to get something in his hair this morning, and he wanted to wash it out. I can’t tell you what that something was, because he’s refused to divulge that to us thus far (I suspect that he fabricated the “tainted hair” theory to save himself some embarrassment.)

My brother-in-law believes that his wife has, at some point, told him that peanut butter is a useful household hair cleaner / conditioner. His wife animately denied ever saying anything about peanut butter, and thinks that he must have confused it with mayonnaise. Anyway, this guy has gone from a docile gentlemen to a ranting idiot and he’s now in a state of full blown panic.

Please provide us with any suggestions that you may have for removing peanut butter from hair. If possible, we’d like to know of any “home remedies” that may work – we’re in a fairly remote location and nobody is willing to go to the store. Besides looking ridiculous, he smells horrible. Here’s what we’ve tried so far:

A) Tried to “melt” it away by pouring very hot water over his head. This basically resulted in mild burns to his neck and scalp.
B) Made a makeshift shower cap out of a Wal-Mart bag, taped it around his head to make it watertight, and poured beer in a small hole at the top. He let it soak for about an hour to no avail.

Anything that you can suggest would be most appreciated.

Jaysun

"Because he's worth it...."

Congratulations on getting rid of the combover. They really do not look attractive at all.

Not sure what the original substance was/is besides peanut butter, BUT when my kids got gum stuck in their hair, I used vegetable oil to rub in the hair and loosen the gum from the hair -- then the hair had to be washed several times to get the oil out. Worked like a charm.

"popcorn up my nose"

We should write a book!!

My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter sucks 2 fingers with one hand, and simultaneously twirls a ringlet of hair on the top of her head, with a finger of the other hand.

A few weeks ago, my daughter was in the car driving, and heard baby cry out, "Need help, Mommy, need help!" Daughter stopped the car, looked back to discover baby had twirled the lock of hair so tight, her finger was caught. Ended up having to free it with scissors.

Oh man, if you could have seen this guy's combover it would have made you retch. He didn't have enough hair to swirl around and fully cover his scalp (even though it was about 40" long on the right side). It looked like a pile of dog feces.

Tomato juice or vinegar -- both are acidic and often cut through crap.

Hey, it really did do some good. Plus, WD-40 has a pleasant scent - at least I think so.

an acetone-based fingernail polish remover might do the trick

This thread is so funny I can't drink my coffee! LOL! It's a hunting lodge full of MEN! If anyone of them have nail polish remover, I'll never be able to drink my coffee today!

yEAH. It's beginning to seem like it would be very embarrassing reading, alright.

Besides, imaginations are evidently more fun.

Just so you know, there isn't any nail polish remover within a 30 mile radius of us. We did try just about everything else that was suggested - except for gum and more peanut butter. We didn't have any gum, and all of the peanut butter we had was already in his hair.
