Socialist-Connected Intelligence Agents Negotiated with Al Sadr to Cease Attacks on Spanish Troops

CNI [Spanish Intelligence Service] Agents Close to the PSOE [Socialist Party] Negotiated in Iraq for Shiites Not to Attack Spanish Troops

Agents made a secret trip to Najaf a week ago to reach an agreement with representatives of Moqtada al Sadr. Fifteen hours after Zapatero announced the return of the “Plus Ultra” Brigade, the religious leader ordered his militias not to fire on the Spaniards.

Agents of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) with ties to the PSOE [Socialist party] secretly travelled to Najaf a week ago to meet with representatives of Muqtada al Sadr. Their mission was to inform the radical Shiite leader that the new Socialist government planned to withdraw the troops and, consequently, to reach an agreement with the armed Shiite militias not to attack Spanish troops. Al Sadr urged that Zapatero make an announcement as soon as he took office, so that the US forces would be alone in the expected attack on the city to capture him “dead or alive.” Fifteen hours after the new president announced the withdrawal, Al Sadr ordered yesterday morning that Spanish troops not be fired upon.

…Agents close to Emilio Jambrina [a PSOE-linked CNI agent who had been posted to a unit in Latin America, but was in Spain on March 11] travelled to Najaf last week, with the knowledge of the Socialist Party, with the mission of telling representatives of the radical Shiite leader Muqtada al Sard that the new Spanish government had decided to withdraw its troops, fufilling its electoral promise.

With this understanding, they proposed the immunity of Spanish soldiers during the withdrawal. That is, they suggested that the “Mehdi Army” (Messiah’s Army), al Sadr’s armed militia, not attack the Plus Ultra Brigade. According to sources, the CNI agents declared that the announcement of the new president, Rodríguez Zapatero, would occur in due time, to which the representatives of the Shiite cleric responded that it had to be done immediately after he took office. The Shiite objective seems to be the rupture of the coalition, so that the American troops that will, presumably, enter Najaf in the next few days to get al Sadr “dead or alive” will find themselves alone. This would explain the rapidity with which Zapatero announced the decision to withdraw Spanish troops, in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday, barely seven hours after José Bono was sworn in as Defense Minister before the King, thereby being able to order the Chief of Staff, Admiral Moreno Barberá, to begin preparations for the withdrawal.

…CNI sources explain that the deal with Al Sadr’s radicals also included not kidnapping Spanish citizens.

This is my unauthorized translation of parts of this article - I changed the title of the thread to make it more intelligible to people who don't know the acronyms!

The rest of the article goes into greater detail about the ties between CNI agents and the Socialists. The CNI is the Spanish equivalent of the CIA. Many of its officers were appointed by the Socialist government of Felipe Gonzalez, which was extremely corrupt and was in power for 12 years. The entire department was reorganized because of scandals that had emerged involving some of Felipe's appointees. However, many of them remained in the new department, either because they had too much seniority to be dismissed for anything less than criminal charges or because the PP was too trusting. (Sound familiar?) They have now returned to power to wreak havoc.

Maybe they should change the name of their National Intelligence Center (CNI) to the National Appeasement Center (CAN).

Ping to some possibly interested folks.

If this is true, I am appalled by the level of treachery it reveals, and I hope our (US) government is aware of this. I knew the Socialists were bad, but the degree to which they are cooperating with the terrorists is truly mind boggling.

Worse, it should be the "National Betrayal Center." The whole purpose of al Sadr was to leave us alone, without allies, and the Spanish agreed to assist him with this.

Incredible.

Ping!

I read that al Sadr was informed of the withdrawal date even before the Spanish Parliament was told.

Thanks for posting this. I suppose I should not be surprised by the covert appeasement that went along with the overt but must admit that I am.

The article mentions that when the Spanish withdrew from the Spanish Sahara (after the death of Franco in 1975), they negotiated a "deal" not to be attacked during their withdrawal. The signal for their departure, to be broadcast on Spanish radio, was "Susanna is leaving." The reply from the guerrillas acknowledging this was "Bon voyage, Susana."

I wonder what their code is this time.

Thanks for the ping.

You know, I should be shocked, but the lunacy witnesses in Europe over the last few years have left me numb.

If the Muslims were smart, now they would demand the return of Ceuta, Melilla and even little Perejil Island - all of which are in the midst of Muslim lands in North Africa and held by Spain. He would have to buckle. They might blow up a train or something.

What will Puss'n'boots (Zapatero) do? [zapatero means shoemaker in Spanish]

Hey Zapatero! Give Ceuta to Al Qaida NOW!!!

They will. In fact, they have been doing so for years, and one of the first things many Spaniards thought upon the election of Zapatero is that Spain will now be driven out of North Africa (where it's "roots" go back further than those of the Moroccan monarchy that wants to take over, btw).

This would not be good, since Morocco has powerful extremist forces and it would leave Muslims alone in control of that side of the Straits. However, considering the kind of "ally" that Spain has shown itself to be, I guess it probably wouldn't matter after all.

I agree - nothing the Europeans do should surprise us anymore, but this one really shocks me.

Aside from the fact that they grovelled before their "master," Al Sadr, to get his instructions, their casual betrayal of us is pretty stunning, even for Socialists.

I read an editorial on this in the Spanish press (in a newspaper that is anti-Socialist) and they said that Spain has gravely damaged its credibility with the world, and that it is quite possible that it will never be trusted again.

Besides showing their true colors of appeasement, the actions of the Spanish Socialists have raised the status of Al Sadr who is really a marginal figure. Indirectly, the Socialists have also recognized the influence of the Iranians who are the prime supporters of Al-Sadr.
