Favorite FReepers...
Me. | April 9, 2004 | Long Cut

Posted on 04/09/2004 2:37:38 PM PDT by Long Cut

We've all done it. You've just gotten home, logged on to FR, and are scrolling down the "Latest Posts" page, deciding which thread will get your attention this evening, when THAT SCREENNAME jumps out at you in a "to" or "from" position. You are powerless to resist; if THAT GUY's there, it's gonna be a good thread...

All of us have our own "favorites" among the many colorful souls who congregate at this fine website. They could be someone you disagree totally with, agree completely with, or somewhere in between. They might be a fount of useful information, links, and facts. Our favorite might be devastating at the art of debate; demolishing opponents in truly unique style, or he might be just plain nuttier than squirrel dung, but fun nonetheless.

Perhaps your favorite FReeper has a way with words; an excellent writer. Maybe they are someone highly experienced in a particular field, with knowledge that many do not posess. Maybe they're dumber than a bag of hammers.

Point is, no matter what the reason, our "favorite FReepers"' handle attached to a thread makes it all the more interesting to us; it guarantees a wild ride or sublime pleasure in the reading and learning. It may also guarantee an increase in blood pressure and indigestion, but one thing's for sure...that thread HE's on is gonna get a hit or two, and it won't be boring.

I've got more than a few of my own, and I'm sure all of you do as well. WHO'S YOURS?????????????????

You couldn't have better choices than that.

I would not want to pick favorites either..

Harpseal....man, I never knew. What a rock he must have been. RIP

Sneaky Pete should by now realize what a fanclub he has here and make a grand....or subtle re-entry.

Well, golly-gee, you deserved to be pinged on this thread. Hope you have reached the point where you can say, with a smile, "This, too, shall pass."

Best possible wishes to a prince of a guy.

Looking over my list now, I realize it's only about 10% of the freepers that are my favorites - I could come up with a short list of a few that I don't like, many others that I feel like I still don't know, and a list of thousands who I admire deeply.

Free Republic is like a hometown to many of us. It is our true town square, where we can speak our minds, laugh together, pray together, cry together, and argue about issues big and small.

I didn't register on FR until early in 2001, but I lurked through the summer and fall of 2000. During that summer, I had family concerns that kept me away from my own house for 16 hours a day. When I got home, I usually couldn't sleep, so I would come to FR to lurk and forget my personal problems and relax for a few hours.

By November, my personal life was much calmer, but the country was in an uproar. Living in Tallahassee, I was right in the center of the storm. The LIVE threads during that time, during the Supreme Court hearings, and even during the hearings in Judge Sauls' and Judge Clarke's courtrooms - which were taking place less than a mile from where I was sitting at my computer - helped me keep my sense of humor and my sanity.

FR has brought me many friends, some short-term, some long term. It has even given me cyncooper, my best friend, who flew to Florida last year so we could meet face to face, and who I know will be my friend as long as we live.

Thank you both for your heartfelt replies. Is this the best forum on earth, or what?

There are too many wonderful Freepers to name, and if I tried to pick out my favorites, I'd inadvertantly leave at least 50% of my favorites off the list. We have some of the brightest people on the planet posting here and it's a joy to read their thoughts.

I'm not sure whether or not that applies to one Freeper who hasn't posted yet, though. I'm still waiting for the first post from Freepers Suck, although he has registered. I have grave doubts about him.

Yes, there are too many great Freepers to list. It is so interesting that on a forum where one knows so few people's real names, one can meet and make true friends.

It is like a town square. Your characterization reminded me of one of those small town squares one sees in movies of a town in the midwest, or the south. It's a homey, comfortable, pleasant, reassuring vision. Sometimes, though, FreeRepublic is like a western saloon where an inevitable brawl breaks out, where you're pretty well assured that someone is going to break a chair over your head.

All-in-all, this is a great site. I marvel at our period in history where we can commune with people from, literally, all over the world; enter into a cooperative venture with people all over the country whom we will likely never meet, and yet feel like you'd be willing to give your life defending. It's a great to know there is a place to get information, courage, inspiration, and a good laugh, particulary when it feels like the darkness in the world is closing in around us.

My favorite FReeper FRiend is PeaceBeWithYou. While he may not post as prolifically as some, he always has something to say. He has inspired, intrigued, challenged and amused me since the election of 2000. He will pursue the answer to a question more tenaciously than anyone I've ever seen, and will usually find it. And last, but not least, he introduced me to Free Republic and has been a constant source of encouragement and support (translation: he's covered my butt a few times and at others has helped me not look or feel too foolish).

There are a lot of FReepers I admire for their dedication to the conservative cause and tirelessly giving us a voice especially Kristinn, Doctor Raoul, and, of course, Jim Robinson.

There are some non-American FReepers who would make better Americans than many Americans, 2 of my personal favorites being Knighthawk and Canadian Outrage. Mad Ivan is great too, but I haven't seen him around for awhile.

Others that I'm partial too are the great defenders of southern heritage, especially stainlessbanner and wardaddy.

Can't forget some of my special FReeper girlfriends. They're the best....always passionate, always positive, always reasonable, always entertaining and always usually right (translation: they agree with me at least 95% of the time): nicmarlo, cyborg, Mo1, and dansangel, to name a few.

Null and void is just the right blend of brains, nuts and sugar.

I love Mississippi Man's spirituality, the humor of Glock Rocks and Chad Fairbanks and the sincere charm of STLOUIE1 and Cool_Guy.

Then there is agitator for his independent thinking and, of course, for keeping the rightalk chatroom running smoothly.

I always enjoy the sane and interesting posts of Section9 and sabertooth. Wirestripper's posts are always interesting and well thought out as well, even though I don't always agree with him.

I also love reading the posts of lauratealeaf and MissAmericanPie for the direct and colorful way in which they say things.

I appreciate the tenacity of doug from upland and Mudboy Slim in exposing the lies and hypocrisy of the left and TheLion for all the effort he has put into helping with the voter fraud research.

One thing this exercise does is to make you realize how much you appreciate the many people you often take for granted. The ones I've mentioned just make me more aware of all the terrific FReepers that haven't been mentioned, but are certainly as deserving. Thank you all for making Free Republic such a great place to be.

Long Cut, this was a great idea. It's been done before, 2 or 3 times that I know of, but you can never remind others too often how much they mean to you. Thanks.
