Favorite FReepers...
Me. | April 9, 2004 | Long Cut

Posted on 04/09/2004 2:37:38 PM PDT by Long Cut

We've all done it. You've just gotten home, logged on to FR, and are scrolling down the "Latest Posts" page, deciding which thread will get your attention this evening, when THAT SCREENNAME jumps out at you in a "to" or "from" position. You are powerless to resist; if THAT GUY's there, it's gonna be a good thread...

All of us have our own "favorites" among the many colorful souls who congregate at this fine website. They could be someone you disagree totally with, agree completely with, or somewhere in between. They might be a fount of useful information, links, and facts. Our favorite might be devastating at the art of debate; demolishing opponents in truly unique style, or he might be just plain nuttier than squirrel dung, but fun nonetheless.

Perhaps your favorite FReeper has a way with words; an excellent writer. Maybe they are someone highly experienced in a particular field, with knowledge that many do not posess. Maybe they're dumber than a bag of hammers.

Point is, no matter what the reason, our "favorite FReepers"' handle attached to a thread makes it all the more interesting to us; it guarantees a wild ride or sublime pleasure in the reading and learning. It may also guarantee an increase in blood pressure and indigestion, but one thing's for sure...that thread HE's on is gonna get a hit or two, and it won't be boring.

I've got more than a few of my own, and I'm sure all of you do as well. WHO'S YOURS?????????????????

I know. We're quite a group here, aren't we? We all have our *place*.

I love both of your posts (especially the ones about Scooter), but, of course, we'll be back at each others throats about Kobe Bryant. :-)

That's what makes FR so great!

I really have to say to HLL that FR wouldn't be the same if we didn't get to have those hilarious award show threads.

On weekday mornings, I look for the threads started by kattracks and Liz.
On Saturdays, I look for Cincinnatus'Wife, and I would ping her to this if I knew how to spell.
On Sundays, I look for AlasBabylon's Sunday Morning thread.

And, almost every day, I can check my pings to see what JohnJuang2 has posted!

It would be easier to ask which FReepers I don't admire, because that list is exceedingly small. I admire ANYONE who is willing to be active for a cause they believe in, even if I happen to disagree with a given person on a given issue. Far, far too many Americans fail to fit civic affairs into their busy lives because they simply don't seem to realize how important it is.

On FR, I especially admire each person who may not have a gift for expressive writing, but who sticks to it and makes their points. It's not the beauty of how something is expressed that matters in the end, but what is expressed.

On FR, I also especially admire each person who will not give up on President Bush, even if they may have one or more points of disagreement with GWB. I admire people with clear-eyed common sense and an understanding of just what a precious, rare gift our Founding Fathers bequeathed to us. And I admire people who understand and accept our duty to preserve this incomparable nation for our descendants, and to teach our children to cherish it as we do.

The list of people on FR who meet this discription is long. Most will be mentioned in posts by others. So I just want to say a sincere, "Thank you, all. I am proud to be in your company."

Last, but certainly not least, in light of world events since 9/11, the FReepers I admire most are those who are either in active military service themselves, or who have a close relative in the service. God bless you all. There are no words to express my gratitude.

To: 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub; Long Cut; Kathy in Alaska; LindaSOG; bentfeather; Fawnn; Brad's Gramma; ..

My Favorite FReepers:

68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub - Um, well he does everything and knows everyone. Besides, he listed me as a favorite and that would be rude not to include him. Besides, I really appreciate the difficulty in remembering how to spell your name each time. Thanks for stimulating the brain everyday. Hehe!  Actually, he's just a great all around person.

Kathy In Alaska - She is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet in the world. She does not allow a single person to post on the Canteen without acknowledgement. Also, she's the perfect online Ma. She's not close enough to hurt you, but she can still do some damage. So? If you need that kind of loving, check Ma out.

LindaSOG - Cause she's the Goddess.

bentfeather - She's the Canteen Poet (well, okay she's everywhere) and absolutely giving of herself.

HiJinx - He has an awesome granddaughter and he is willing to share everything about her with all of us. Such a sacrifice on everyone's behalf. Thanks Jinxie.

tomkow6 - He's one of the funniest FReepers. He's got a great sense of humor and is selfless in his support for our Troops. Oh! Where is my Ohio State Burka??

Radix - Well, he's Radix. He's always passionate about our Troops. Don't mess with our Troops and you won't have issues with Radix. Mess with them and WATCH OUT!!

Brad's Gramma & Fawnn - The world just wouldn't be the same without these two. Speaking of which, have you seen either of them today? They forgot their medication and I'm convinced they need to take them.

Aeronaut, Valin, & aomagrat - Flyover, history, and ship history..what more could you want in a day??

StarCMC, fatima, HopeandGlory, armymarinemom, mystery-ak, and everyone else that has or had loved ones serving over there.

SevenOfNine - She's the international news diva. What more can you say?

Long Cut, txradioguy, Defender2, USAF_TSgt, kjfine, armyboy, Hondo1952, Dundee, Old Sarge, Arrowhead1952, blackie, RaceBannon, and anyone else that has served America or is currently serving America. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Okay! I like everyone in the Canteen.

Outside of the Canteen, I couldn't possibly survive without these people:

SJackson, dennisw, yonif, and Yehuda
Thank you for always keeping us on track with Middle East news.

Yehuda also has an awesome blog.
Perhaps a plug for the blog wasn't necessary, but I thought everyone should know.

Ragtime Cowgirl, xzins, and Calperina
Thanks for always keeping us on focus with the "GOOD NEWS" ping!!
Also, Calpernia did a wonderful job keeping us posted on Lt. Col West. Thank you!

blackie - He's as smooth and as sweet as they come.

E.G.C - No one BTTT's better than him!

MeekOneGOP for the Zot Ping List

For that guy that does the enviromental threads that I never seem to visit, thanks! Um, I think your name is editor_surveyor or something like that.

trussell, kayak, Faith, and everyone that does the Pray For President Bush Thread. Trussell because she is always keeping everyone informed about prayer requests.

mhking - How can you not love someone who has a "JUST DAMN" ping list?
Oh! Could you add me to your ping list. I'm too busy to write you a FReepmail at the moment. Sorry!

Mudboy Slim & Vetnet - Both are very creative and share their works with all of us. Thank you gentlemen!

Oh! Yeah! I like the Big Kahuna as well. Thanks Jim!

Most importantly: I love the anal retentive posters at Free Republic. You know who you are. Always reminding people that this article has been posted already and absolutely shooting down the person who posted it. Thank you so much for pointing that out. We sure do you love for it. NOT!

Oh!! And you can't forget AnnaZ and amom for their brilliance!

Okay! This was a long post, but at least I wasn't boring like the rest of the posters. At least I made it somewhat colorful. LOL!

You caught a lot of folks I didn't put on my initial list, either. NOT from lack of regard, it was lack of space!
