VANITY: I'll Make an FR Donation for Everyone Who Pledges to Boycott MSNBC

I've been driven to post my first vanity by the out and out disgusting behavior of Chris Matthews and Don Imus. Matthews gave full rein today to 4 9/11 widows spouting conspiracy theories...he even said that VP Cheney should be given sodium pentathol before his Commission testimony. Imus has become unwatchable. He has gone far beyond humor in his insults of President Bush - far beyond.
So, here's the deal... the only way we can hurt MSNBC's ratings is by boycotting them ourselves. I'm willing to donate 25 cents to FR for every boycott pledgee on this thread - my maximum is $50, but so is my minimum!
I'm hoping that others might be willing to match my donations. How about it guys? I would love to wake up in the morning and find at least a hundred pledges.

I'm sure you've more that exceeded your wildest hopes for this thread.
That said, I couldn't claim a contribution, as I've boycotted pmsnbc for too long. The exceptions have been the Saturday a.m. broadcast of the President's radio address, and an occasional viewing of Scarborough Country.
Even Joe has been a disappointment of late.
BTW, the only reason I've listened to pmsnbc on Saturday a.m. for the President's address is because FOX insists upon carrying those stupid screaming money shows. How I hate them!

Since I got FOX, the only MSNBC shows I've watched are Imus and Hardball. Both shows have been skating on thin ice for months, and crashed right through this week.
I know what you mean about Saturday mornings on FOX! I can't even bear the idiots who do the weekend duty on Fox and Friends.

I agree with the entire Saturday a.m. lineup.
Having been in the financial industry for more than 25 years, not only does the 10:00 to noon segment make me crazy, so do those idiots that do the early shift.
Fortunately, most Saturdays, I'm rarely home until noon.

These guys are just poster boys for "Stupid". I never watch the station, myself.

I found it interesting that Imus slammed Mathews just this morning for his performance, yet continues to make wildassed accusations concerning the President in the very next breath.
I will suggest that boycotting MSNBC is self defeating for those of us that are "political junkies". Better to know what the "opposition" is up too, than to remain in the dark and get blindsided.
Besides, its not like MSNBC carries any weight politically, there are only a couple of hundred thousand that watch it at any given time.

I already boycott MSNBC. I also avoid Imus on the Radio in the morning. Long live FOX news.

I shared your opinion for years. I kept watching Matthews because he occasionally "got it" and Imus because he wasn't being such a wildass until the past few months.
It's just too much. Matthews giving airtime to the most accusatory of the 9/11 widows, and egging them on with their conspiracy theories. Matthews has had Ernest Strada on his evening show, so he is aware that there are many 9/11 familes that don't share the opinions of the four that he continues to showcase.
Imus lost me last week when he was playing the audio part of remarks made by President Bush about Iraq - he was cackling and calling GWB insane. I've watched Imus for years, and this is far beyond his usual humor.
IMHO, MSNBC threw away their credibility - and any attempt at fairness - when Rick Kaplan took over. Their ratings are low enough that a ten percent drop is huge. If this dropoff can be laid at Kaplan's feet, so much the better.

I've never given Imus much "weight" when it comes to his personal views. I do like his style of interviewing, most of the time. You are correct, he's gone off the deep end, especially in the last couple of weeks.
Matthews is a "known quantity"....when he grow up he hopes to supplant Russert (a dubious goal, imho).
My point is if we blind ourselves to what the "other side" is saying....we blind ourselves.
In short, I've learned in life never to turn my back on a vicious dog.

Fair enough, Badeye. You can watch and tell us what they're saying. For years after I was sickened by Dan and Peter and Tom, I would tune in for the same reasons--know thy enemy, then said "enough". That threshhold has been crossed for me re: Matthews and I've joined the MSNBC boycott in total. My dial has not landed there since I took the pledge.
But by all means, keep us informed of what's going on. You can be our spy.

I have been boycotting MSNBC for years. I hereby pledge to continue boycotting MSNBC.

I'm a channel flipper from birth......LOL!
I normally flip between Fox, MSNBC, CNN. The only time I hit the "networks" is to get my local weather. I haven't watched Jennings, or Rather, or Brokaw since the day I had Direct TV installed at my home in 1999.
I view MSNBC as the Democrats "canary in the coal mine"...and enjoy watching it die with a regularity unmatched in television / cable history.
The fact they don't run Matthews against O'Reilly's time slot is a hilarious admission on MSNBC's part. Likewise the millions of dollars they lost with trying to bring leftwingnuts like Donohue the the fray, only to see that liberalism is still being rejected by the masses.
I can't watch it for long, I admit. Listening to Matthews ask 18 questions in one long breath, then end it by posing a "Aren't I clever" type query does get boring as hell.
Bottom line for me is if you don't keep current on what the opposition is doing, you get blindsided to often.
