March 17, 2004 -- France is investigating terrorist threats from a shadowy Muslim group vowing to retaliate for a national ban on wearing headscarves in schools, officials said yesterday.
France's interior ministry said it was taking seriously a letter, sent to several newspapers, that vowed "to plunge France into terror and remorse and spill blood outside its frontiers."

And so the fallout from Spain begins. Much quicker than I anticipated, but it begins. I figured that it would take a year before the French would get targeted for the head scarves since Britain and others are a bigger target. I was wrong it seems.
In 5 years they'll use violence to effect French elections. I figure in 10-15 years the Muslims in France will be demanding the removal of synagogues or some such in Paris, with more bombing threats. Excellent analysis. One additionatl thought-- in 7 months they'll use violence to effect the US elections. Terrorism pays.

Three sons. Oldest is a Marine about to go to Afghanistan or Iraq. Second is a soldier who just returned to Germany from 13 months in Iraq. Then there is the youngest hunting Osama in Afghanistan.

France will announce that only Yarlmukes (the Jewish prayer caps) will be banned, and apologise profusely for the pain and suffering to the muslim community.

Well, you must be mighty proud of your sons. I hope they'll soon be able to come home safely with the satisfaction of a job well done.

France doesn't like ANYONE telling them what to do. Remember what they did to the Greenpeace boat? Yep; blowing up unarmed boats is representative of their martial valor.

Over the past few years, Muslems have routinely demonstrated in various EU cities, demanding the right to self-rule, including the right to enforce Sharia on fellow muslems. They want the right to enforce provisions of sharia that are automatically outlawed by the laws of the host country : Torture, mutilation, and death. They will no longer demonstrate, they will simply bomb, until this is conceded in many, maybe most, maybe all, EU member countries. (Probably they'll hold off on the beheading and handchopping, as a concession...for now.) Then they will begin bombing to force the host population to obey certain sharia provisions : maybe that all women wear headscarves in public, maybe that all meat be butchered according to halal bylaws...fairly minor stuff at first. And from there...Who knows where it will end? But within 20-50 years roughly, "EUrabia" will no longer be a joke, but visible reality. Europe is finished.

They can't give up the head scarf ban in the face of such threats, and it was stupid to pass one in the first place. It's much like a swastika ban. Turks are Muslim and they don't wear the headgear --- it's actually not required but it is like the Nazi swastika.

We now both know how the Islamic bombers can count on your support for their next attacks in Europe or elsewhere. Some folks don't stop to consider how their blanket condemnation of other peoples can put fellow conservatives in each of these countries(minorities though they may be) in an awkward spot - fellow conservatives who would be the most likely to be visiting FR.

And what makes it worse is that the Muslims have a legitimate complaint. The ban on headscarves is wrong. Attaturk banned them in Turkey --- there are solid reasons for banning them, moderate Muslims don't need to wear them, they are a symbol for the radical extremists.

Well, it's damn strange people can wish terrorism upon their neighbor and yet boast about their moral fiber. I thought I remembered some great US President who very recently said something about treating those who condoned terrorism as terrorists themselves, but, heck, I won't fan the flames. I'm glad I have let this off my chest, though, because it was really awful to read this.
Well, let's hope we'll all enjoy less dramatic conversations soon.

They'd just be returning Europe to the conditions of the 15th-17th centuries. Back then there was torture, mutilation, the death penalty, and asset forfeiture for using tobacco. There was the death penalty for relatively small thefts. There was branding and disfigurement for other, even smaller thefts, or other offenses. There was burning at the stake for holding other than the official religious views.

BTTT for somewhat enjoyable morning reading.

Many French citizens felt themselves safe from terrorist attacks like last week's Madrid bombings because of Paris' opposition to the war in Iraq - but the letter said that was a false hope. "They're basically saying, 'You thought you were safe because of your stand on Iraq, but France is no longer safe at all since Feb. 10,' " said Jacques Esperandieu, deputy editor of the daily Le Parisien. The Islamic terrorists will never stop. We must persistently fight, and utterly defeat, them. Spanish or French surrender is a failed policy akin to appeasement of Hitler in the 1930s.

But, but, I thought that if we got out Iraq all terrorism would end!

Attaturk banned them in TurkeyAtatürk was a dictator. That redounds to my point.
there are solid reasons for banning them, moderate Muslims don't need to wear them, they are a symbol for the radical extremists.
I've heard similar things said about FreeRepublic.com.
Is the threshold for banning something really whether or not somebody needs it?
