There can be no mistaking the reality that this Presidential campaign will perhaps be the dirtiest and most scurrilous on record. The recent contrived and intellectually dishonest protestations against the Bush ads, which use images of 911, represent the latest evidence of this. It is now fairly well known that the challenges, being proffered under the false auspices of 911 victim’s advocacy groups, represent the actions of a larger network of left wing organizations intent on preventing President Bush from being reelected. It also appears that the proxy use of some of these organizations by the Democrats equates to the illegal use of “soft money”. Compound this with the fact that they are also directly linked to Kerry himself, and we have a lucid picture of the depths to which the Democrats are willing to debase themselves to gain the seat of power.
A cursory scratching of the surface shows that the central group raising objections to the ads, September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, is an extreme left wing organization that among other things, condemned the “invasion” of Afghanistan and sent a delegation to Iraq to march in lock-step with the Hussein regime in a “peace protest”. Peaceful Tomorrows also happens to be the spawn Mrs. John Kerry’s Heinz Endowments, which funneled money to it via the Tides Foundation. It is also worthy of note that the initial press conference for Peaceful Tomorrows to raise objections to the Bush ads was sponsored by Moveon.org, a well known rabidly anti-Bush organization.
Now, Moveon.org has been financed by significant volumes of “soft money” and the use of this soft money to influence presidential or congressional races may be illegal according to new federal election laws. Therefore, if it is determined that that the primary objective of Moveon.org’s activities are to influence such elections (dahhh) then they would be subject to limits on the amount of money that can be contributed to the group by individuals, unions or corporations; as well as being held to other administrative oversight requirements. It is also a fact that many more such organizations with ties to the Democratic Party have been newly created.
So it appears that Kerry, in an impressive series of short term malefactions, has attempted to hide behind the Vietnam War veterans he once derided in order to deflect analysis of his political record, promoted untruths about Bush’s military record, is exploiting the victims and memory of 911, has apparently embraced extreme left wing organizations and is potentially involved in the violation of federal election laws. I think the political phrase “holy cow” is appropriate here.
Those of us who possess even a small modicum of common sense recognize that the exceptional leadership demonstrated by President Bush in the aftermath of 911 is a core component of his presidency and should reasonably be a core element of his reelection campaign. The counterfeit suggestions to the contrary are nothing more than transparent and cynical attempts to cut the political legs out from under Bush on an issue for which he receives high marks from the American people.
As for the family members who have allowed themselves and this tragedy to be nefariously exploited by the Democrats and their network; they are guilty of politicizing 911 and besmirching the memory of the heroes who died that day. Indeed, the actions of Kerry and his cohorts are reminiscent of the politically opportunistic treatment Kerry afforded another group of war heroes upon his return from Vietnam.
I suspect, though, that similar such acts of liberal malfeasance will not stop with this. In press conferences, and in subsequent interviews with Peaceful Tomorrows’ family representatives, there were clearly coached responses given to the questions they were asked. Their responses inferred that President Bush knew about events leading to September 11th and did nothing about them, or perhaps even intentionally covered them up. Since that time I have observed increased rhetoric to that end, and have received notices of budding write-in and email campaigns to promote it. Indications therefore exist that the Democrats are endeavoring to further market the notion that Bush is deliberately stonewalling the 911 investigation and suggest that he is engaged in a cover-up. There is, of course, no such evidence to buttress such a claim; only more wild eyed left wing conspiracy theories are offered. Nevertheless, recent history demonstrates that unfounded innuendo is all that is required by left to effectively target President Bush, and a willing media sits on hand to provide a perception of legitimacy to any such assertions.
Suffice it to say that the transparency of such antics will only further debase Kerry’s desperate attempts at gaining legitimacy as a qualified candidate to lead this nation in difficult times. Americans will continue to respond positively to unapologetic leadership, guided by a consistent moral base and which Kerry and his crew falter on all accounts.
Peter Schurman, executive director of Moveon.org, argued that the families are upset that images and allusions to September 11 are being used for political purposes. Indeed, and his organization should stop doing it. Nearly all Americans have been profoundly impacted by the war that was brought to us on 911 and have a bona fide say regarding what is or is not appropriate in this developing campaign. I submit that the Democrats and their allies have already crossed the line.
President Bush speaking to this “issue” said: “I’ll honor those who died. I’ll honor those who sacrificed to save lives. But I’m not going to forget…I remember people looking at me, saying, ‘Don’t you ever let us down, Mr. President. Do what it takes to secure America,’ and that exactly what I intend to do.”
Can we expect the same from Kerry and Democrats? Their record and their actions suggest not.

Very good. I got a lot of mileage out of the common criticism that the Saddam capture was all about 'timing.' This was repeated a lot. I would always ask 'Specifically what about the timing is so masterful? 11 months before the presidential election? What do you mean."
