SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The Social Security Administration has told its offices nationwide not to accept marriage certificates from San Francisco as proof of identification for newlyweds looking to make name changes on Social Security cards.
The new policy doesn't just apply to the 3,344 same-sex couples that married in San Francisco during the last two weeks. Heterosexual couples who wed after Feb. 12 also need to supply documents other than San Francisco-issued marriage licenses if they want to change the names on their Social Security cards.

"Since the legality of the marriage licenses are in question, we are not accepting that document to change names," said Leslie Walker, a spokesman in the regional office that covers California and seven other western states and U.S. territories.
Please, let them sue. Great move, whoever's behind this. Hope it's Bush.

Now if only rulings from San Francisco's "Ninth Circus Court of Schlemeels" can also be ignored.

What's stopping one addle-brained, publicity-hungry Social Security employee from going ahead and processing these? Certainly not the law!!! If judges and mayors are above the law, why not a lowly civil servant??

I'm with you. A soft whisper from Bush is all what was needed.

How important can a piece of paper be? Absolutely amazing times!

Yes, it's good GWB *quickly* spoke up about the 'gay marriage' mess, & maybe having a fed. agency back him on his views of it.
GWB's 2 yr.'silence' on illegal immigrations issues, has done nothing but separate the states & cities over, enforcement, foreign ID cards, in state tuitions, issuing of driver's licenses, etc, etc.

Sure hope so. This fire needs gasoline if we're going to get the CMA out of Congress and ratified.

I just don't understand why SF's mayor hasn't been arrested when he has so clearly violated the laws of the state of Cal. Do you? Does anyone?

All it takes is one dimwit president giving an executive order, and those lucky SF folks get SS benefits. Bill Clinton would do it, and I'm sure in 10 years, we will get another 'Bill'. This is why the constitutional amendment is required. We have no choice, but to push it ahead and set all the judges back into place.

lobies filled with p**ft*s singing "we shall overcome?"
Right now we have a line up of gross fest weddings.
To: Sabertooth
I'm guessing it came from Bush.
