Rush: Gay Marriage About to Explode as an Election Issue (in the Dems' faces)
Rush Limbaugh Show | 2/19/04 | LS

Posted on 02/19/2004 10:01:02 AM PST by LS

Reading from articles about Barney Frank and by Ken Schrag about the SF mayor, it is clear that the "gay marriage" issue is becoming a time bomb. Dems such as Schrag and Frank are warning this is a big problem, especially if the Dem Party as a whole gets tagged with this issue.

Folks, while I've always thought this would break the GOP's way, I never thought it would be a "defining" issue. But Rush was quoting info on the "Defense of Marriage" bill that CALIFORNIANS passed by an overwhelming margin not long ago. This issue by itself puts California "in play" (my gosh, and even Massachusetts?), and could raise utter hell with the Dems' electoral map, not to mention Feinstein's (Boxer's? Who is up?) re-election.

However, Bush will HAVE to clearly define Kerry/Dems as pro-"gay marriage" to reap the benefit.

I think just being a democrat defines Kerry on the left.

Being a democrat alone is enough to convict this ape.

I completely disagree that this will be a significant issue. The people for whom this is a real big deal are already solidly in once camp or the other. For the millions who oppose gay marriage but for whom it is not a pressing issue, the real issues will be the war (including the war on terrorism) and the economy, uncluding the deficit. (The deficit will more than offset any advantage Bush will get on the gay marriage issue.) "Outsourcing" is being promoted by the media as the issue of the day, and it will have far more impact on the race than gay marriage.

I can't say it enough....this open border/FTAA/illegal immigration problem, if not solved absolutely turns us into a banana republic

You are right.

This is another issue wherin we FIGHT. We the People should sue MEXICO for the costs of caring for these illegals! Then, we take the INS to task for NOT following the law.

Remeber We ARE "WE THE PEOPLE". The Government belongs to US! WE have the power if we quit reacting like babies to threats handed out by politicians who happen to work for US!

I'm not worried about the Bush "Amnesty" it will never pass congress in today's climate anyway. Not if We the People do OUR PART!

You are correct. Excess is never enough for liberals.

Abortion made legal - the excess was partial birth abortion and even the wafflers were fed up.

Live Gay parades and teaching tolerance for gays is school are legal - the excess is gay marriage.

I ask that anyone belonging to any religious organization begin to bring up the questions posed in post 46. Liberals always want to have a "national dialog" on issues. They will not like being answered back on this issue.

You forgot that liberals only wanted smoking and non-smoking sections as well - and look what THAT has ballooned in to! They have made a whole class of people second-class citizens for taking part in a legal activity.

I dont know about anyone else around here, but I AINT TAKIN IT NO MORE!

Well, we'll see. But you'd be surprised. Millions of Americans are "tolerant" of homosexuals, but will NEVER give their blessing to homosexual marriages. Trust me, this is going to be very big. And it cuts into the core DEM voters who, in fact, haven't been put into one camp or the other yet.

Umm, I thought the articles he read today signalled a key event---you had DEMS warning the Dem party to get out of this issue as soon as possible. I don't see how that puts him "a block behind the parade." These things only occurred in the last few days.

Freeper Jim Noble observed (in a thread last weekend) that Gay marriage is the Stalingrad of the culture wars. I thought that was a particularly apt characterization.

Indeed. I, for one, have felt under attack over the last couple of years with the numerous decisions (taking God out of the Pledge, removing the Ten Commandments from numerous places, outlawing Christmas displays, etc.) that have the net effect of destroying our culture.

Gay marriage (an oxymoron to be sure) has simply become the straw the broke the camel's back. I think that this is because unlike the other attacks, which stem from a religious perspective, gay marriage is simply abhorrent to the vast majority of reasonably minded people. Polls I've seen quoted show that something on the order of 60 to 70% of people are against it.

Additionally, the flouting of the law, after all the leftist blather about the "Rule of Law" in the Bush vs Gore case needs no concrete thought to form an opinion against what is occurring. The city government of SF is simply breaking the law - in much the same fashion as Roy Moore.

As Roy Moore was forced to removed the Ten Commandments, so right minded people must conclude that this gay marriage orgy must be stopped. The longer it is left to fester, the more anarchy is evident.

For myself, I am long past being frustrated with judges changing society on a whim from their lofty perch. In no way did our Founders envision the judicial branch thumbing their nose at the will of the people in so many blatant and repeated ways.

I hope that it is becoming quite plain to the RNC and the Bush campaign that the vast - and I mean VAST number of Americans have had enough of this nonsense. As a people we will never support gay marriage, or any of the other perversions that such garbage law could lead to.

Yeah, I'm still here.... to help save our Constitution (along with our rights) because unfortunately so many of our fellow citizens suffer from rectal/crainial inversion which is a condition that is the result of immense ignorance combined with liberal doses of arrogance transforming the unsuspecting individual into a useful and useless idiot when it comes to the weighty issues of our time. My suggestion for lightweights like you is to keep focused on gay marriage, Kerry's intern, media bias and all the other media contrived issues that you seem such an expert on and leave the heavy lifting to those of us that know the reality of the situation.

You are right and it's beginning to look more and more like FTAA is already a done deal. We see limited federal response to ranchers and Border Patrol begging for help, Bush proposing Soc. Security benefits for illegals who've worked here for a time then went back to Mexico....never mind that the average illegal Mexican receives thousands in welfare style benefits, the fedgov's embrace of the Organization of American states and their stated "goals" for this hemisphere...which spews nothing less than a pure Communist philosophy, etc. Those of us paying attention are seeing the formation of a new American Union right before our eyes.

However, the undiscussed and unanswered qurestion is what happens to our system of laws, Constitutional rights and national sovereignty under this new arrangement? Who gets to pay for all this "harmonization"?.....hmmmmm, one guess. Currently, we're in an election cycle and not one word from the candidates about this transformation of our country into this new hemispheric supra-national "arrangement"....hmmm kinda makes one wonder doesn't it?

I keep saying it....FTAA is for all the marbles and if we Americans don't wake up until it's too late then the greatest experiment in human freedom will be relegated to the dustbin of human history.

"Will churches be forced to perform marriage ceremonies for same sex couples even if that is diametrically opposed to the teachings of that particular religion? Will the gays sue under equal protection, discrimination? Will churches lose their tax exempt status? Of course, that is the ultimate goal, right?"

Unfortunately, it's a resounding "Hell Yes" for each and every one of your questions.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

1660 The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament (cf. CIC, can. 1055 § 1; cf. GS 48 § 1).

1625 The parties to a marriage covenant are a baptized man and woman, free to contract marriage, who freely express their consent; "to be free" means:

- not being under constraint;

- not impeded by any natural or ecclesiastical law.

Making marriage laws recognizable by the Federal govt? Territories? Well within congressional power and I would leave it at that.

Anyone who has thought about the issue and talked about it, (almost everyone I know) came to this conclusion immediately. As usual, Rush is a block behind the parade, not leading it. I'm glad he agees with those who already came to the conclusion he now pretends is cutting edge.

Guess your "anyone" doesn't include 99% of the people I talk to, who only now are sensing that it's an issue. But I'm glad your friends are so perceptive and advanced. Meanwhile, thank God for Rush.

I still think one has to pray for righreousness to reign in our nation. No one really knows when the end will come. It may be 100 years or more. In the meantime, we need to pray against evil.

"The SF mayor's ignoring of the law puts me in mind of the way Nevada voters ended up with a tax increase that they voted down, by way of judges.

Why is it that when dems don't obey the written law of the land, they "ignore the law.

But when the everyday joe "ignores" the law, we are "breaking" the law.

How does that work, exactly?

I guess Rush is informative for people so far behind the curve that the block behind the parade seems like revelation. There is a place for everything I guess.
