A frantic behind-the-scenes drama is unfolding around Sen. John Kerry and his quest to lockup the Democratic nomination for president, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

Intrigue surrounds a woman who recently fled the country, reportedly at the prodding of Kerry, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

A serious investigation of the woman and the nature of her relationship with Sen. John Kerry has been underway at TIME magazine, ABC NEWS, the WASHINGTON POST and the ASSOCIATED PRESS, where the woman in question once worked.

A close friend of the woman first approached a reporter late last year claiming fantastic stories -- stories that now threaten to turn the race for the presidency on its head!

In an off-the-record conversation with a dozen reporters earlier this week, General Wesley Clark plainly stated: "Kerry will implode over an intern issue." [Three reporters in attendance confirm Clark made the startling comments.]

The Kerry commotion is why Howard Dean has turned increasingly aggressive against Kerry in recent days, and is the key reason why Dean reversed his decision not to drop out of the race after Wisconsin, top campaign sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

FROM CONRESSIONAL QUARTERLY'S CRAIG CRAWFORD: 'Drudge item on Kerry intern issue is something Chris Lehane (clark press secy) has shopped around for a long time -- it was one reason the Gore vetters in 2000 shied away from Kerry as a running mate choice -- their conclusion that it wasn't bad enough to disqualify him, except for the fact that they couldn't risk it as they were trying so hard to distance themselves from Clinton's personal failings (note: Lehane worked for Gore at the time -- and briefly advised Kerry during this campaign). You might be right. Let's see how it plays out. Of course there's the precedent of the Clintons' 60 minutes interview. That occured much earlier in the campaign, long before Clinton was the presumptive nomineee, as Kerry is now, yet Clinton survived it.

But perhaps Dems will be much less tolerant this time around.

If it's wife cheating, this just proves that the DEMS can't even trust one another. Honor among thieves is not honor at all. Kerry got too strong too early and when the Bush bashing was backfiring, maybe Kerry's little (mistress) secret was revealed to bring him down so that the other candidates could bash Bush some more without the Kerry backlash re: his poor voting record on defense issues.

The latest pic was actually debunked in here by some sharp FReepers. The picture of Kerry/Fonda at Valley Forge is indeed very real.

The Valley Forge picture is great, as is the cover of Kerry's book. I would like to know the truth about his actions in Nam. I've heard hero, I've heard war crimes. You have to give people a lot of slack in a war zone, especially one as screwed up as Nam, but deliberately killing non-combatants is a no-go in any circumstance. I hate to sound like somebody's mother, but the Kerry photo in front of the VC flag and the PS'd photo that has been pulled can seriously hurt our credibility. Rats, OTOH, have no credibility, so they can continue to shout "four legs good, two legs bad" over Bush's Guard record and ignore the facts for as long as they want.

The Clark campaign must've leaked this story to Drudge. Clinton would've been behind that. They probably got Dean to go along because Dean versus Edwards looks pretty good to him.

Just went there and they are all"this only matters to stupid Freepers" and talking about how it doesn't really matter especially since it is so far from November.

They are consistant at DU though, aren't they??? They go in a tizzy over Bush PROPERLY serving in the Reserves but has a few gray areas, but hey, a man who makes a committment to a woman and then f's her over is no real assessment of his character.

This all sounds like a well planned media diversion to take away the attention from going after his Vietnam "HERO" RECORDS.

The media whores would rather talk "SEX" than the veracity of JFKERRY Vietnam RECORDS.

I have not hear one of them demand JFKERRY release his records, that is what is more telling the a HOT SEX story.

There is more of this than one woman, folks. Kerry is a known womanizer. I have seen pictures of him partying with women when he was still married to his first wife. The person who has them is a Democrat and probably won't ever release them, but I think it's plausible that there are more out there. He was quite the playboy when he first arrived in the Senate.

If there is scuttlebutt about this on the campaign trail - and it must be heavy to have an actual candidate like Clark talking about it, you can be sure it will come out. My husband worked for the Mondale campaign in New Hampshire in 1984 and came back with lots of stories about Gary Hart having girlfriends in every state. This was weeks before the Donna Rice photos came out.

I'd say this is hugh and series for the Kerry campaign.
