The Mystic River star was in South America, promoting the flick, when he was asked about the heat hes been taking for speaking out against the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq.
When Penn was asked if he considered himself to be a patriot, he replied, according to our source and translator, I am more patriotic than this president we have, who I consider a traitor of human and American principles.

You guys are all missing it. He's trying to win the academy award. Everyone knows the most radical leftist will win - remember Jane Fonda and Micheal Moore?
Talk like this makes him a shoo-in.

Oddly, people like this Sean Penn person says these things, but really knows it is a load of crap. There is no honesty.
President Bush is a good and decent man that makes men like Penn look weak and unintelligent. These weakened soul must strike back to try to maintain their manhood. It is a feeble thing and sad to watch. Mere fools displaying their wares.

His idea of being a patriot is playing rapist soldier in Viet Nam. Fits right in with Kerry.Aaargghhh, don't get me started on Kerry. There is a thread around here this morning about him, and I was so mad I couldn't reply.
If Kerry wins the Demonic primary, I have a really cute idea for a Bush ad against him. "I served my country, but didn't win any medals. John Kerry served his country, won medals, then threw them back in America's face". Something like that...

"Like most mainstream media sources, they disapprove of America using violance to rid society of third world dictators..."
Not exactly. They only disapprove of it when it is led by a Republican president. When it came to Haiti, Somalia, Kosovo etc., the media was all behind those efforts. In fact, Christiane Amanpour was a great advocate for the Yugoslavia action. This is what makes the mediacrats some of the biggest hypocrits in the world.

I thought the headline said, "...more of a parrot than Bush" and I had to agree.

The intriquing question is whether or not Mr. Penn believes his comments to be somehow relevant to most Americans.
Can't really think of any Hollywood elite actor or entertainer who has comments on the subject of politics that I'd consider in any way useful. I doubt they relate to a common middle-American experience. I certainly can not relate to their lifestyle (no 40 hour work week, multi-zillion dollar mansions, marry frequently, do drugs, party lifestyle, etc.).

It seems par for the course for Democrats to make up attacks on their own character. I believe a number of Dem politicians gave speeches to the effect: "I can't believe Republicans are questioning the patriotism of Max Cleland!"
Now, the only time I ever heard that charge mentioned was when the Dems were "defending" Max. Maybe they made up the whole thing.
And now it's all turned around and it seems common that a Dem would openly and explicitly attack the patriotism of a sitting President. They have no shame. No shame at all.

I suggest that Penn should stay permanently in a nice place like Belize or perhaps Peru. Then he could practice his patriotism there. What an idiot!

What's the difference between an American and a human? I am dumbfounded--maybe I should as Mr. Penn...

Sean should stick to acting in roles more suited to his intellect -- like Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq That line really struck me as well. What basis to they have to use the term "increasingly unpopular"?
To: cwboelter
Prehaps I should have qualified the statement to read
"SUCCESSFULLY using violence..""
That would have automatically excluded Haiti - where they are rioting against that Clinton-Communist Aristide as we speak; Somalia, where Clinton crapped out after Americans were needlessly murdered; and Kosovo, where it is becoming increasingly apparent that Al Quaida operatives were ans still are taking advantage of the situation to terrorize non-Muslims. No to mention Viet Nam (Kennedy-Johnson), Iran (Carter), North Korean (Truman), Eastern Europe (FDR) and China (Truman)- To dredge up some ancient history.
The Dems are TOTALLY unfit to conduct foreign policy. They are foreign policy imbiciles. To elect one of these imbiciles at this point to the Presidency would be equivalent to national suicide.

At last year's Oscars, everybody who played a homosexual won awards.
This year, the winners will be who hates Bush the most.

"I am more patriotic than this president"
ONLY in your own itty-bitty mind Sean (what's left of that grey matter that is).

Not only is he is stupid, he's also illiterate. Not to nitpick, but how did you deduce, from a spoken statement, that he is illiterate?
