Judge Rafkin looked like he was really caffinated. I hope this was one of the worst days of his life but not the worst. He needs to be investigated and whomever put SMITH on probation for coke charges that would have put him away for FIVE YEARS should be investigated too. I don't know who handled that. Maybe try going to Tampa Tribune's web site - they must have one. They had quite a bit in the paper today re: Carlie and re: Smith's criminal record.
The criminal justice system ENABLED this serial predator and knife wielder to become worse. What about protecting society from killers? As far as I know, they haven't released if he stabbed, shot or strangled her. When that info is released, everyone will get all riled up again.
I think Rafkin's afraid that Jeb's going to investigate him. I put that in my voicemail to Rafkin too. Go, Jeb, go.

I can't tell if the service is at the church she was murdered behind. No, it's several miles away.

This breaks my heart. I have an 11-year-old in the 6th grade. If anything like this were to happen to her, dear God in Heaven, I don't know how I would cope. Freepmail headed your way. Just remember that you could suddenly be in the presence of an abduction of your 11-year-old or another one, without warning and with an imprecise impression of exactly what's going on, just as if you had pulled into that Sarasota car wash and found Carli Brucia being ordered to accompany her murderer. And do not forget for a moment that he was armed.
If you're going to be able to give your 11-year old precious flower the protection she may need when storms sometimes uproot such flowers and blow them from our sight, you had best give some consideration to such possibilities and how you'll react to them if they come your way. I pray it does not.

I hope Jeb gives it to him to the tune of 100,000 volts. No I don't think they've released that info yet. Suppose he abused her or something. That would really send people over the deep end and then he's toast.

The church where Carlie was found is having a service outdoors Feb. 10 at 5:30pm.

The entire half time show was lewd and crude. I did not mention Janet's anatomy - someone else added that. Please don't take my stuff out of context. A sexual predator-killer can go to death row, that's the only good news.
There's no super bowl excuse for him but it appears that the entire nation was watching the super bowl and this guy wasn't where he was staying with a guy and his wife? Naw. There are parallels, that is all I was saying. We have a violent society and the mtv culture is helping drive it. MTV used to be about music.

I don't like sleepovers at all and have refused them all for my kids (they are sons and don't seem to care as much). My son attended a birthday party/sleepover in December. His friend's Mom thought it would be "cool" to take the boys to the high school parking lot and let them drive. She did this WITHOUT our permission. Needless to say, that was the last sleepover my son will attend with that particular friend! Oh and just FYI..the boys were all 10 and 11 years old.

"Am I alone in wondering why these people are never released in the judge's own backyard?"
Listen, that's nothing! On a technicality, the Second District over in Tampa released a bunch of sexual predators the state was trying to keep in treatment centers. Where did all these sexual predators go when released? Back to their homes on the other coast in Daytona Beach! Outrageous. You are right. If judges release these scumballs, they indeed ought to have them released in their own backyards.

BTW, a front page article in today's NYT proclaimed that hip hop singers are now "maturing" and wearing "suits" when they perform -- as if a rapper in a 3-piece suit will now make up for anti-women and violent lyrics (and the NYT wants everyone to know that).

You are right on. The guy violated his parole, and he had a rap sheet as long as your arm. Smith should have been given jail time, but that stupid Judge Rapkin decided to ignore all of that and give him probation.
And now, a child is dead.
He says he cannot sleep at night. Good. I do not want him to, knowing he has blood on his hands.

We were discussing that at work today. Judges and Prosecutors that make plea deals...while they are handing out these "Get Out Of Jail Free" cards, can we pass out directions to their neighborhoods??

I didn't mean to get off topic on this thread.
The most mind-boggling part of this whole matter to me is that the accused is a father of 3 daughters. What in the world was this guy thinking...

A womanizer in a suit is still obscene just like BILL CLINTON, remember him?
The judge now says he's getting death threats per www.baynews9.com.
