The real shame is that he was unsuccessful in his attempt to end his own life...
Too bad...he doesn't deserve to waste anymore of our resources.
Now we will spend millions of dollars of tax payer money and we better pray that some technicality doesn't get this guy off...

I see the drug abuse as more symptom than cause...it's self-medication for a mind that isn't "right".

As soon as Garragos finishes with the pervert, I'm sure he'll fly here for more cheap publicity.

If not for that video this guy would be back out looking for another victim before carlie is even buried according to all the chances he has been given. He may have had other victims in his past and there are other dead girls/women in florida that he killed and it was his bad luck there just so happened to be a camera. Thanks goodness the owner installed that security camera. I agree this guy probably would've never been caught and many more victims.

Unemployed? Couldn't pay fines, etc.? And the judge didn't wonder where he got the $$$ to pay for those drugs?

They transferred the perp to Fort ManateeIt's Port Manatee, and he arrived up there about an hour ago. Manatee Co. has two jail locations, one in downtown Bradenton, and the other in Port Manatee.
Both Manatee and Sarasota counties are in the same court circuit.

I said the same thing to my husband...! Thank God for that video...
I'm not liking the big brother idea..but what do you think about cameras on every street corner? Remember the case last year, where a neighbor's camera captured the image of the abductor's car?

Your insight was thought provoking.
None the less, he WAS a live at home FATHER of three little girls and the judge should have taken his past into consideration when he let him walk.
Pain killers for a bad back? He was a mental case with a history of drug abuse and violence. The Judge should have seen right thru that little act of his.
Even Judge Judy would have called the guy a BUM and told him to shape up, get a job and take care of his family. That's all...:~)

But jurors believed Smith. Some even congratulated him by shaking his hand after the trial. None of the jurors could be reached for comment Thursday.
DISGUSTING! THANK YOU LIBERALS!
Too bad the golfers didn't just do him in at the crime scene.

This guy was a career criminal..I don't see why he should have been treated lightely. ??Because he's a con. He has that charming personality to make a courtroom believe he was only being a good samaritan by helping a young woman from getting run over. He sweet talked his way out of a jail sentence how many times? More and more it's becoming apparent how his mind works. Scary.

Speaking of technicality:
It's a good thing Smith isn't black.

DISGUSTING! THANK YOU LIBERALS!Amen. Saw a documentary on Charles Manson the other evening. It's unbelievable that the citizens of California are still paying his room and board, as well as all the other killers involved.
I'm glad I live in a death penalty state. My cousins' daughter was brutally murdered 2 years ago, and I want to be present if and when he goes. We're still waiting for his trial to start. If was a miracle that he was even caught, and probably would still be hiding in Candada had it not been for an "America's Most Wanted" telecast.
Prayers go out to Carlie's family. May her killer rot in Hell. And may the liberal judge who let him walk the streets be haunted for the rest of his life.

I believe it is in the Book of John where Jesus says something to the effect of ~~ "Whosoever destroys the innocence of a child should tie a milstone about his neck and throw himself into the lake".Luke 17
1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."

That does not signify forgiveness of killers/rapists of children to me. At least not by we mere humans. Awww, isn't that special. I've run out of cheeks to turn.
If you're referring to my post, make sure you understood it.
The author is arguing "against" this self delusional doctrine of automatic forgiveness.

The animal who kidnapped and murdered the little girl, Samantha, in California also had been acquitted of a child molestation charge.
Society fares no better with juries or judges it would seem.
There are those who see the criminal as deserving of the pity and the victim to be damned.
Recently LIEberman said in his early days he thought more about the criminal than the victim and was sorry for that.
SORRY!!! SORRY!!!...too damned little, too damned late.

I don't think drug abuse per se has anything to do with the kind of deviant behavior we're seeing here, if you discount the rare occasions when extreme usage might lead to psychosis. I can see where the association might be made, but I don't think it's a good one. This individual is most likely a sociopathic "recreational" killer, who would do what he does regardless of whatever influence drugs might have had on his behavior in the past. You might argue that going out of the way to prosecute such a person for drug use would prevent such a thing from happening, but that would be true only if the penalty for drug use were life imprisonment.I know the pattern of drug abusers, especially the ones that are addicted to hard drugs. They get arrested for possesion... They get realeased and get probation... They don't get a job, but they find a way to manipulate and steal and feed their drug addiction once more... Another arrest ensues... This time maybe a drug rehab is in order? The released once again... This cycle of arrests and releases repeates over and over till you find a serious crime occurs as in death and or rape. I know this is a generalization, but an accurate ine.
