SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Good lord, they just activated an Amber Alert on 750 KXL for a girl in WA. WHY do they have to use the Emergency Broadcast System tones! I think the Amber Alert system is great, but PLEASE use some other alert tones. I about fell off of my seat when I heard it!

I've been preaching most of those points for over 2 years now, and I am glad to see someone else has the same overview. I congratulate your astute observations and analysis. Mind if I add a few comments, which combined with your analysis give a full overview of the challenge?

The other half of the coin is the influx of political destabilization brought on by subversion of our political processes by some of the same actors in the form of poloitical donations.

Most of this political destabilization is apparent in organizations like CAIR, MOVE-ON, and the rest of the street protest movements who state they are anti-war, but in reality are anti-US in their views, and heavily infiltrated by Marxist-Islamist factions.

We were talking about the "grey area" the other day. This being defined as the area where ordinary street crime meets the efforts of organized governments and terrorist organizations who are waging war against us in unconventional means.

Signs of the "grey area"

Al-Qaeda and opium sales to finance terror attacks

The Nuclear black market and its ties to organized crime organizations.

Overseas political campaign donations from persons representing hostile goverments/terrorist designed to undermine US sovereignity and cause division /strife

Socialist elements in our government who apparently have an agenda in place that is not well defined, but eventually ends up with them in charge of the country and us as subjects. They will use any upheaval in the politicial landscape to advance their agenda.

Terrorist/Islamist propaganda designed to de-legitimize the United States and Israel

European Socialists who actively support terrorism because they hate America

Globalism- which intends to subject us to global rule and have us overseen by an elite group of socialist leaning UN internationalists who have an un-announced agenda, but probably doesnt include freedom like we enjoy now

We have a lot on our plate, and our generation has to confront this and overcome it for us to survive as a nation and continue to enjoy the freedom we have. If our children are to grow up free, we need to do it now.

Are the dates for the Russian Nuclear forces Maneuvers set or are they still "sometime mid February?

How far in advance are these types of things planned and made public?

Could the Russians be posturing themselves for an allout defense and/or all out offense because they know, through intelligence means, that we, as promised over and over again, are going to be hit by "AQ" (or someone) and hit hard. The one thing that haunts me more than anything is their numerous claims regarding the upset in the balance of power. Obviously if that happens then TSHTF and who knows what happens next.

Does anyone know if Russia will be conducting Civil Defense exercises at the same time as their Nuclear maneuvers?

Sean,

Perhaps you missed the other post I left on the last thread. But I'll rephrase it since it must have lacked clarity. Russia has other enemies besides the US. I grant that they exercise their forces with us as the hypothetical enemy, just as you would be disingenuous to say we do not do that same thing. I went into some detail as to why your source is unreliable. Golitsyn-based conspiracy theories are not taken seriously by any Russian experts that I know of. I do not mean to be offensive, but some of the sources people use when documenting a Russian plot to lull us into complacency then suddenly annihilate us are, to put it mildly, so ridiculous so as to lack any credibility.

(eg. Perestroika was a plot hatched by Andropov (and later Gorbachev) to make the US *think* that the USSR and communism had fallen, but after destroying an economy that was once comparable to the US to the point where it is equivalent to that of Portugal, after letting the military disintegrate to the point where they spent years bleeding in little Chechnya, one of their 89 regions, and after allowing their nuclear arsenal to fall from 10,000 highly MIRVed strategic warheads ten years ago to something less than 2,000 de-MIRVed ones today - - now is the time after 20 years of decline and degradation to unmask the secret plan to catch us off guard and let us have it - - these plots sound like the crazy Japanese guy that emerges from a cave 2 years after Hiroshima ready to fight Americans with his bare hands - - divorced from reality)

Are there still communists? Sure. Are there politicians and generals in Russia who hate us with a white hot passion? Sure. Are there people on the rise who could end up being worse than the communists (national socialists - - my prediction is that Sergey Glazyev, not the communist or liberal-democrat, should come in second in the Presidential race). Absolutely.

But if you are asserting that Russia is our number one threat right now, and folks were to take that seriously and act accordingly, then you would drive them into the arms of our *true* enemies and create a self-fulfilling prophecy. We need all the friends we can get at the moment.

We run through our strategic exercises, as do they. Yes, these are big. That is because they have no conventional deterrent to speak of. This is all they've got. China can start massive conventional war games across from Taiwan if they want to rattle cages. We can send the 82nd Airborne to make a show of force. The Russians cannot do anything except rattle what they have left - - their missiles and bombers.

I am sure that NORAD exercises against Russian scenarios all the time. As they would against Chinese, North Korean, and Iranian target sets. But we can do this quietly on computer screens. We have no need to "prove" our strength. We took down Afghanistan in 2 months after the British could not last century and the Soviets could not in the 1980s. And we sliced through Iraq like a hot knife through butter. We don't need to act like Dr. Strangelove. But the Russians are paranoid and weak and threatened. So they do.

And the Russian people are humiliated and prone to chauvanistic impulses at the moment. So this is a big crowd pleaser before the election. (Imagine if they had won the cold war - - you walk down the street of any American city and a quarter of the signs are in Russian, McBoris Hamburger stands and Siberian Fried Chicken on every street corner, Russian TV shows in the theaters, rubles in your pocket because the dollar doesn't mean diddly anymore, European nations and former NATO members are one-by-one joining the Warsaw Pact (including the UK and Canada). Russia has set up base in Cuba and Mexico to fight their war on terror. American majors and colonels are selling blood at the local blood bank to feed their families. We just sold the rusting hulks of what used to be our last two aircraft carriers to South Korea and India for junk metal, we have to partner with the Russians on an international space station because we cannot afford to send astronauts into space . . .this is why some yearn for Stalin . . no one wants to be beaten tortured and killed, but they want to be great again.

Most likely, this is a pre-election stunt to pander to the nationalist impulses.

If it is the real thing, then it is like meeting a dog on a street that is baring its fangs.
You are assuming it is directed at you. I am telling you to look over your shoulder because it is baring its fangs at the mugger standing behind you.

They don't want to mix it up with us. On 9/11, they de-escalated their strategic alert level and posture to send us a signal of non-aggressive intent.

Like I said already, this Russian business is a bunny trail. Instead of trying to fixate on *what* they are doing. You would be better off focusing on *why*.

It is not us.

Disclaimer: This is from Debka, but if you ferret out the technical information, you come to two conclusions:

1) These new missiles are designed specifically for combat with US Navy task forces entering the Persian Gulf and Straits of Hormuz, and are being positioned to gain maximum tactical advantage for Iran.

2) These new missiles are fairly technically advanced, and could be a significant threat if used right.

Implied conclusions:

Iran knows it is at the end of its reign of terror, and is working overtime to come up with wonder-weapons that will help it fight with the US. They are scared to death.

Rottenest conclusion:

These missiles could theoretically have enough warhead payload capacity to field one the nuclear warheads they are developing as we speak.

Iran Acquires Cruise Missile

From DEBKA-Net-Weekly 143 Jan 30, 2003

February 6, 2004, 8:31 PM (GMT+02:00)

Iran`s threat to Gulf shipping

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary regime last month marked the 25th anniversary of its victory over the Shah by launching a sophisticated missile dubbed Raad and its accompanying advanced radar system designated DM-3b. Minister of defense Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani led the ceremony in full naval dress uniform.

To subscribe to DEBKA-Net-Weekly click HERE .

The official handout described the radar system as navigating and guiding the combatant missile in its final stage. The medium-range Raad missile is equipped with a self-guidance device. Shamkhani enthused: the two systems manufactured in Iran’s state aviation industry further enhance the capabilities of Iranian armed forces.

What the handout did not reveal was that Raad is no ordinary coastal or shipboard projectile but a cruise missile, capable of halting Personal Gulf shipping by blockading the Hormuz Strait. It can also choke off incoming and outgoing sea traffic via the Shatt al-Arb, Iraq’s only exit point for its oil exports and entrance for its vital imports.

DEBKA-Net-Weekly ’s Gulf sources report launching bases for the new missiles are going up at four places on Iran’s Gulf coast: the northern end at Bandar a-Khomeini opposite the mouth of the Shatt al Arb and facing Kuwait and Bahrain, at Bushehr, site of its nuclear reactor, at the big Bandar Abbas naval base and Revolutionary Guards headquarters, and at Bandar e-Lengeh west of Qeshm Island.

From these installations, Iranian missiles will cover the tanker and merchant ship lanes leading into the Persian Gulf from the Indian Ocean through the Gulf of Aden.

A fifth launching base will be located on the small highly-strategic island of Great Tumb situated just north of the Hormuz Strait at the mouth of the Gulf.

According to our military experts, the locations of the new Raad missile bases betray both aggressive intent and determination to defend Iran’s Gulf shore from assault by warships or hostile marine landings. Iran’s military command appears to be preparing the country’s national defenses for an anticipated American attack in the course of 2004 or early 2005.

Do you think that Cuba has been admitted to the club?

Short answer - - I don't know.

Longer answer - - they cooperate with these states and probably have dabbled in some WMD (like Libya), but are not up to their eyeballs to the extent of the three named axis nations. I think if you google Secretary Bolton and Cuba you will see some public allegations made by the Bush administration. But Castro will sooner or later be pushing up daisies and I think folks in Havana are more interested in dividing up the estate rather than provoking a replay of 1962.

Victory in Iraq has been a huge deterrent. Libya and Sudan are making nice-nice and the Iranians and North Koreans are at least going through the motions of negotiating with us.

Most battles are won before they begin.
Sun Tzu said something like that.
