[history]
Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to shout down Gov. Howard Dean. The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.
Franken - who seemed in a state of shock and out of breath after the incident - was helped back to his feet by several people who watched the tussle. Police arrived soon after.

Unfortunately, this is the standard
modis operandi for Al Franken.
I've read the book about NBC's Saturday Night Live show and there is MUCH criticism in regards to Franken's often boorish and tempermental behavior. And Sean Hannity on his radio show mentioned some time ago about how his encounter with Franken at the WABC studios turned into a obscenity-filled tirade by Franken.
In short, Franken needs quite a few psychotropic medications, starting with Prozac and Xanax. (shaking head)

Hi! Apparently you are not familiar with Al Franken. He does this all the time.

Well.
Isn't that special.
Al Franken quite literally assaults someone from behind, how brave of the liberal ol' girl, and you're saying that to state anything against this is reactionary?
"...which means people should be able to assemble and speak without being shouted down."
SOooo... why do they send hecklers to Republican conferences to shout our guys down, and how is that okay?
Franken needs to be arrested, and charged with assault.
The left states that dissent is freedom of speech and patriotic.
Franken just infringed the man's rights...
Franken on one hand says that people should be allowed to assemble, he also has said they should be able to protest, then he contradicts himself with his own actions.
By the by, welcome to FR.

Unfortunately, this is the standard modis operandi for Al Franken. "Hey, I am an annointed one. I am a liberal. Rules and laws simply do not apply to me."

From the account in the article, I would say he is guilty of both.
assault threat or use of force on another that reasonably makes that person fear bodily harm.
battery the use of force on another resulting in harmful contact; a criminal act.

If Hannity did that, it would be the lead story that night on CBS, ABC, and NBC, and would be the 24 hour breaking news on CNN and probably on Fox news too (to show they are "fair and balanced" and capitalize on the publicity value).
There would be media roundtables on whether Hannity should be permitted to stay on the air, what this tells us about teh conservative movement in general, etc.
To: Lancey Howard; All
Just checking back six hours later and still the national media hasn't picked up the Post story? PHXNews, KMSB, National Review Online all used CNN's unbiased portrait of Franken as a hero that assisted in stopping disruptors of an authorized event.
Outside of this there is a strange silence; especially when you a have a campaign corespondant describe exactly what happened over the radio and verify the NYPost article.
What is more odd is that in the past TWO days the following outfits thought Franken was of interest on more positive stories:
- Detroit Free Press,
- Charlotte Observer,
- The Advertiser,
- Salon,
- CBS News,
- ChronWatch.com,
- Traverse City Record Eagle,
- CNN International,
- NH Primary,
- Toledo Blade,
- Miami Herald,
- Biloxi Sun Herald,
- Taunton Gazette,
- Tacoma News Tribune (twice),
- Washington Times,
- Pittsburgh Post Gazette,
- Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel,
- Elko Daily Free Press,
- CTV,
- Times Picayune,
- Fredericksburg.com,
- Chicago Tribune,
- Santa Maria Times,
- Rapid City Journal,
- Appeal-Democrat,
- Hartford Courant,
- KATV,
- WCIV,
- WJLA,
- Munster Times,
- North County Times,
- Tuscaloosa News,
- The Forum,
- Miami Herald,
- ABC News,
- San Francisco Chronicle,
- The Herald News
Fairly indicting of a liberal press.

Last week on the Glenn Beck radio show, Glenn was talking about his meeting up with Franken at the airport.FYI -- Franken's throwing a hissy at the Des Moines airport is in today's New York Post Page Six gossip column.
To: Spiff
This was a publicity stunt, pure and simple. It was planned. Leave it alone and maybe it will go away and not help Al Franken and his new radio show as it was intended. I'm not buying that. These LaRouche people have already disrupted more than one rally. And Franken doesn't exactly come off looking like a he-man here, particularly with having his glasses broken. Any publicity Al is getting here is bad publicity.

I wasn't yelling "Troll!" per se, I was more or less yelling "Pretentious outsider!" But, hey, if you say troll, who am I to nitpick?
