Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to shout down Gov. Howard Dean. The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.

Franken - who seemed in a state of shock and out of breath after the incident - was helped back to his feet by several people who watched the tussle. Police arrived soon after.

How is there only ONE news story posted on google about this at the NYPost? If Rush had bodyslammed a Tancredo supporter at a Bush event you think there would be ONE story about it?

(By the way, I always use that as an example...but is that thing still on TV? I Haven't seen it for probably 10 years!

Actually, Nightline isn't on the air anymore. But they keep the production going so it can be transmitted via closed circuit to the home of Ted Koppel's mom.

In case nobody has cleared this up yet (I did not read the whole thread) it was Alan Combs who beat up Franken after a drunk Franken got in his face and pushed him around at a dinner. (Yes - - Alan Combs.)

Actually Franken had incidents with all of them.

He chased Sean Hannity while in the green room of some show.

He went after Colmes at the WH Correspondence Dinner. That was when Brian K brusied his knuckles (so the rumor goes.)

Finally during a book debate Franken went well over his alloted time, bashing O Reilly. That's when OReilly told Franken to shut up. By the way, Franken shut-up.

Um am I the only person who is shocked by the irony??? He loves free speech, unless the speech is shouting at a liberal candidate? Huh?

By the way, this is clearly a publicity stunt to help launch his new show.

"There was someone else at Fox that he went after"

I think it was Sean Hannity. Seem to recall hearing something like that. But, someone else said it was Alan Colmes, so I'm not positive. Maybe they (H&C) will mention it tonight?

The way I've heard it described:

Assault is the threat
Battery is the act

It is assault and battery

Comparing Rush Limbaugh to Al Franken is like comparing a lion to a mouse turd.
Naturally, anything Rush does is going to generate more and bigger headlines.

Why isn't he in jail for the night?

For the same reason that Ted Kennedy didn't even get a traffic ticket.
