RICHMOND - Civil War heritage groups are criticizing Gov. Mark Warner for refusing to officially recognize their commemorative events since taking office two years ago.

As Virginians celebrate Lee-Jackson Day today with Mr. Warner's blessing, the groups are urging the Democratic governor to issue a proclamation for a Civil War History Month, a Confederate History Month or a Union Soldier Month.

If we don't stand up to these people, they'll slowly succeed in eliminating any mention of the Confederacy in anything but the most negative, slanted, and untrue ways.

You are certainly right. And you need to be aware, also, as a general proposition, how important it is to any people that they honor their heritage. Most people are not that involved in intellectual, philosophic ruminations. It is a sense of being part of a continuing culture, of lines of descent and enduring family values, that keep societies viable from generation to generation. The attack on your Virginia heritage is an attack on the very nature of your society, as a cohesive society, with purpose and continuity.

And if Virginia, which has been so important to the enduring values of Americans in general, loses her way, we are all the losers. Please continue to hold your heads high, and do not listen to the crack-pots who would besmirch the honor of your forebears.

He's a Northern VA, telecom-money, lying tax & spend liberal, who's trying to rape our wallets as we speak.

Thank you. Nicely put. :)

This is what comes from electing PC pols. He's trying to ride the fence on the issue, but all he's getting is a rail up the butt.

Groups on both sides of the Confederate-Union split said Mr. Warner should try to be less politically correct and pay more attention to the historical significance of the war.

Maybe the next phase of revisionism will be that it didn't happen at all, and that's why the leftists are so determined to erase Confederate imagery, statues, and place-names.
