IMPORTANT ACTION ALERT
It is crucial that every pro-family American express their opinion to Sen. Travaglini, as the outcome of this situation in Massachusetts will affect every state and every American.
The Massachusetts Legislature is approaching a very important vote: the consideration of the Marriage Affirmation and Protection Amendment (the "MA & PA," or H. 3190) at the Constitutional Convention to be held Feb. 11, 2004.
It is the hope of the Coalition for Marriage that this amendment will be approved in Feb. in order for this crucial issue to advance toward a vote of the people of Massachusetts on the 2006 ballot. This amendment represents the only means of reversing the ruling of the Supreme Judicial Court that declared same-sex marriage constitutional in Massachusetts.
Apparently, Massachusetts Senate President Robert Travaglini is considering postponing the Constitutional Convention until the Supreme Judicial Court issues its opinion on whether a civil union bill will sufficiently meet the requirements of the Goodridge ruling.

I agree with you regarding others. It seems that most state officials only want to address the concerns of those who own property in their states.

I suggest writing this letter or something like it as a letter to the editor of every newspaper in Massachusetts, or every paper in the US.
The more science studies homosexuality, the more we see the major factor determining homosexuality is environment. That's not a bold statement, it's what science continues to report. We should heed the words of John Adams when he said:
"Facts are stubborn things, and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."
As two of the three little pigs learned, we must build our house out of something solid. This was an important teaching of Jesus as well. He said it is foolish to build your house on sand, or to build your core position on something that is easily washed away. Instead, we should build our position on something solid, something which stands firm under scrutiny.
In regards to homosexuality and genetics, the work of homosexual activist Dr. Simon Levay has often been used to support the idea that homosexuality is genetic, and his work is still quoted to this day. But what did Levay really find? Here is what Levay said of his own work:
"It's important to stress what I didn't find. I did not prove that homosexuality is genetic, or find a genetic cause for being gay. I didn't show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work. Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain."
In 1973 the APA (
American Psychiatric Association) declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. According to Levay, it wasn't science that propelled the APAs change, he said "Gay activism was clearly the force that propelled the APA to declassify homosexuality."
Dr. Robert L. Spitzer played a pivotal role in the above 1973 decision made by the APA. Spitzer used to believe homosexuals couldn't change but after studying the results of therapy he now believes homosexuals can change:
"I thought that homosexual behavior could be resisted--but that no one could really change their sexual orientation. I now believe that's untrue--some people can and do change."
Spitzer concluded with:
"the mental health professionals should stop moving in the direction of banning therapy that has, as a goal, a change in sexual orientation. Many patients, provided with informed consent about the possibility that they will be disappointed if the therapy does not succeed, can make a rational choice to work toward developing their heterosexual potential and minimizing their unwanted homosexual attractions."
This is amazing information! Homosexuals can change, they can leave their lifestyle! It's not just Spitzer and Levay making the above comments, although they are well known, it's being reported by many different organizations that thousands have left the homosexual lifestyle.
Still, we need to be careful with this information and not use it incorrectly. We need to reach out to those who want help and make our best efforts well known.
A May 2000 panel was scheduled by the APA to debate the issues, but was canceled due to the highly charged political nature of the debate. We
still need national debates on this subject, we need to talk about it so we can make informed decisions on homosexuality and marriage.

Email sent. I feel disgusted to be a citizen of Massachusetts. I am stunned by the Judges and Legislators who feel they can impose their minority view on the majority. The more pro-Gay groups push me to accept them, the more I feel manipulated and angry.
To: scripter
My understanding is that even if this Constitutional amendment in Mass. is passed, it is voted on by the people too late to be of help, since the Mass. Legislature must take up gay marriage sooner thna the people can vote on an amendment.
Am I mistaken here?
To: Zack Nguyen
I'm not sure what's going to happen. At first I wasn't sure if I was for the amendment and then the article
Protect Marriage Without Constitutional Amendment made a lot of sense as well.
Then you and others made good arguments in favor of the amendment here: Gay-Rights Groups Eye Conservative Split.
As I see it, judicial activism must be attacked from as many angles as possible. Article IV of the Constitution is another concern. Whether the amendment is too late I don't know, but as I see it, anything can happen.

You are correct that some form of recognition of gay relationships will happen MA before the ammendment could be implemented. I think the goal is to implement an ammendment to invalidate those unions or marriages that will have already taken place and prevent future ones.

It'll have to be airtight.
The idea that Lambda has been working on is that all they need is for a conspiring state court to rule in their favor for five minutes, and then they've bagged all 50 states under Article IV's Full Faith and Credit Clause.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they have attorneys with undated papers in their briefcases just waiting on a phone call to throw down on a couple of dozen key states before shopped forums at a minute's notice.

Will this do any good?
E-mail is taken a lot less seriously than First Class mail, and I would have to wonder whether the recipients wouldn't just File-13 everything they got from out-of-state.
After all, we are talking about Massachusetts. FReeping this guy may just make him and his colleagues more determined than ever to screw all the other states. I've often suspected that Mass liberals ego-trip on stuff like this. Why stir them up?
But then, you tell me.

Hello, friend. Defending what's left of common sense and tradition, I see.
I appreciate your efforts.
If Massachusetts does something, do you think it'll force Dubya to get off the fence and do something? Or will he have a Big Tent magic moment and come down on the side of his Loggie buds?

To ovecome out of state concerns, you might instead write a letter to Mass newspaper editors and send copies to the legislator. That ought to get it read. Mention your fears (to the editors) that the Mass legislation will have a national impact.

Maybe I'm reading Bush wrong, but I get the impression he would prefer to do the right thing, and immediately. I honestly think he only appears to be riding the fence because he's trying to keep things civil and because of his position. Of course I could be reading Bush wrong, that's just the impression I get.
I hope he does do something soon and will continue to pray that God gives him wisdom in all his decisions.

[Homosexuality] is not changable Do you have anything to support your statement? You're responding to a post that provided evidence you're wrong, and evidence from scientists who once thought homosexuals couldn't change but now believes they can:
In 1973 the APA (American Psychiatric Association) declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.

Many patients, provided with informed consent about the possibility that they will be disappointed if the therapy does not succeed, can make a rational choice to work toward developing their heterosexual potential and minimizing their unwanted homosexual attractions."
If you have anything to rebut Spitzer, post it.
