And how would you suggest enforcing the existing law? Exactly the way the immigration law is currently written, you know, exactly what is being ignored.

"I don't think that W learned anything from Perot's 1992 run. He seems to be begging for a Conservative Third Party candidate this year. CFR, Prescription Drugs, this montrosity...What in world is he thinking???"
I agree with you.
What a mess.

Aside from all the details, if I knew that President Bush would prosecute employers who hire illegals and would drop those same illegals off nearthe Guatemalan border when found, I would be inclined to support him here. But and its a big butt, President Reagan has already been down this road and we got the walk softly but they forgot about the big stick. Well said! I agree.

Now, if the borders are not going to be enforced, and I repeat, we all know that they will NOT be, then the next best thing, is to extract whatever positives from the reality as we can. I hear ya, but the same thing was said in 86. The 'safeguards' built into that plan were abandoned so fast even Alan Simpson's head spun.
As a conservative what I'd like to see for ONCE is a leader & party who isn't simply looking to salvage a "few positives" from a deteriorating situation. For once I'd like to see a line drawn in the sand & a refusal to be pushed back any further.
In short, the same ol' complaint I have on every other conservative vs. liberal issue. Naiive, eh?

Here is some good news (from Diario del Hoy newspaper, in El Salvador, just now). Nearly all the Latin American newspapers carry this story at the top (and most of them view it as 'regularization' of 'los ilegales'.
Tancredo dice que entre 120 y 130 republicanos, casi la mitad de la bancada, lo acompañarán en oponerse a la reforma. Por lo tanto, Bush necesitará los votos de legisladores demócratas. (Tancredo sez' Bushfox is not going to have a smooth go at it in the Congress).

At any rate, did anyone in the RNC even _think_ about looking at some poll numbers among _Americans_ before presenting this boondoggle? What a farce! Good thought there...just what Klintoon used to do! Sorry but I prefer a President that acts even against great odds.
To: eleni121
Are you suggesting that these fine people came into this country illegally?
P.S. Bob Hope is, unfortunately, dead.

Nice Try. You can't have Gore for Domestic Policy and Bush for Foreign Policy & Homeland Security.
I ask again: Would we be better off with Gore than Bush? Put more simply, if you had to vote in the 2000 election now, would you vote for Bush or Gore?
To: McGavin999
The best part of this is, if you don't have a job, you have to go home. PERIOD.Do you actually believe that?
That the feds will round up millions of illegals who don't have steady jobs?
It will NEVER HAPPEN
Just like the much touted policy of the early 90's to get tough on employers who hired illegals was never enforced
To: RockyMtnMan
So there's no significance in severity between infractions in your world? Apparrently in mine and not in yours. The crime of working illegally is relatively minor compared to crossing the border to rob and murder. The old policy made no distinction; GWB's policy does.

American citizens not willing to take jobs.
The only American Citizens that can't take
a job are the aborted ones.
So I say it...

Last year I was out of work for the first time in 26 years. I looked for 3 months and ended up taking a job paying 50% of what I was making before. I have since achieved over 20% increase in pay by working for it.
These people that want to find "just the right job" and then complain when they are unemployed for more than 6 months drives me crazy! My wife and I are surviving well and enjoying life, just not going to Hawaii and the Caribbean as much.

I have a question Kevin. I agree totally that the Mexican government is corrupt, but I wonder about blaming the citizens there. It appears to me that they are scared to death of the government and with good reason. It is not a free country at all, at least it sure doesn't appear to be when you are there. The cops are very intimidating, and you hear horror stories about them.
I feel sorry for the people there who live in absolute poverty while the government and the Americans and other nations who build huge tourist resorts are wealthy. No middle class, just dirt poor, or filthy rich.
I don't claim to be an expert on the situation, but I am curious about your remarks. Do you really think the people could do anything to help themselves when these so called police are traveling around in pickups with rifles trained on them all of the time? That is what I saw away from the tourist resorts, and it scared the hell out of me!

let's cut the irrational uninformed attacks already...the prevailing wage must be paid under guest worker programs... Oh, that's nice.
That means even more Mexicans will sneak across the border to undercut those Mexicans in this proposed program.
To: Flyer
That's what we asked for, and we are getting it.>>>>>>>>
Sheesh......"Not enough funds/manpower to enforce existing laws".
But, if you will enact 'new laws' that I like better, "I *promise* these will get enforced".
LOL......

Thyeoden had more character. RHis is so stupid. When I calm down I am going to write a litter to the WH, some select CongressCritters and the RNC. I was just about to send a donation for Thune, that one will not be forthcoming.
I have been sticking up for the Republicans for years as I live in a very liberal area. I will not be doing that again.
To: JohnGalt
Paul/Tancredo '04.Probably just a few of the men left in national government that care about the Constitution over having their party remain in power. I would support and campaign for that ticket
