Backing Dean guarantees a Bush victory (must read)

I want Howard Dean to be the Democratic nominee for President despite the fact that his intellect is the size of a single in the Foster-Walker Complex.

If he gets the nomination, George W. Bush is going to launch a major can of whoop-ass, the likes of which have never been seen before in any election. It will make the 99 percent landslide "victories" of dictators around the world look like closely fought contests.

Many ask why I have a dog in this fight. After all I'm a Pakistani with no interest in the debates over Medicare and school vouchers. I'd rather go to class than read about campaign finance reform.

To put it simply, American politics bore me.

I do, however, care deeply about my country. At the risk of sounding like a peace activist -- which I most certainly am not, at least not in the NOWAR tradition -- I also care about the freedom and well-being of the global community. And right now, Dubya is the only person capable of doing that.

Ideally, Muslims wouldn't need Bush to do their dirty work for them. They would repudiate all forms of terrorism, reform their own dirty political systems and realize that women should be treated as human beings, not cattle. But since they're not up to the task Bush is the next best alternative.

In the last 28 months he has managed to bomb Afghanistan into modernity and rid them of the Taliban, who subscribed to the "women-as-cattle" philosophy mentioned above. He has also managed to free the Iraqis from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, who came up with the novel idea of mass murder as a solution to overpopulation. He got the spineless President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan to develop a backbone and renounce his previous support for terrorism.

Howard Dean, showing himself to be the moral vacuum he undoubtedly is, said "I suppose it's a good thing" upon hearing of Saddam's forced removal. This is why he does not have a chance in hell against Bush. The American people must realize the importance of freedom and not give Dean the chance to fiddle while the Muslim world burns.

I feel like puking with disgust whenever I see a "no war" sign painted on The Rock. Liberals need to realize it is only at gunpoint that extremist Muslims will learn that anti-Semitism is not a lifestyle choice, and suicide bombings will not result in a Palestinian state. You control mass murderers with war, not resolutions and court orders.

When I visited my ancestral homeland of Afghanistan last year, I felt safe in the knowledge that I would not be incarcerated for being a beardless, non-praying, T-shirt-and-jean-wearing individual. That freedom was exhilarating. It was a freedom no one in the country enjoyed until Bush came dashing in like the Texas sheriff he is so often portrayed as being.

Which is why I urge College Republicans -- all five of them -- to rally behind Dean during the primary season.

And then come November and Bush's landslide victory, I will feel safer and freer.

I don't buy it. Bush is a corportist. I am not happy about it but that is what he is. Corportism unduly *helps* big corportaions (thus picking winners and losers, something government should do). I, like you, am not happy about this but he is no socialist. I wish he were more of a capitalist but I'm not sure such a person could be elected President today. I do think that corportism is the next best thing to capitalism.

You want a socialist? Go look at the Democrats. Their stance on health care, alone, would move us far closer to socialism than all the things Bush has done times 100!

Bush increased consolidation in just about every industry and the D's are foolishly 20 years behind and are still trying to get further to the Left rather than sneak back around the Right. Worse his debt financing and radical expansion of the welfare state strengthens socialist economics in the political arena.

Yes, the best we can hope for in these times is a decent man, but the end result is the citizens will have lost more choice in the marketplace under 4 years of Bush than 8 of the Ozark Caligula.

I disagree. On what do you base your conclusion that his support for Bush is phony?

My guess would be that Dean would carry at least eight of the 11 Northeastern states: Pennsylvania more resembles the Great Lakes states politically and Dean may also lose Delaware or New Hampshire. He will be shut out in all Southern and Border states. Enthusiasm for Dean by South Florida Jews will not be enough to overcome indifference by black and Hispanic voters. With the lack of minority enthusiasm and urban Democratic bosses focusing on saving Congressional and state legislative seats, I doubt Dean would even carry Illinois or Michigan. He might eke out a winning margin in Minnesota, as the old Farmer-Labor tradition dies hard. Dean is dead in the Plains and Rocky Mountain states, even New Mexico, as Hispanics will not feel comfortable with this arch-Yankee. He will win California and maybe Washington and Oregon. Of course, Hawaii and DC will go for the Democrat.

Bottom line: Dean wins CA, HI, WA, OR, MN, DC, MD, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME, 14 states plus the District of Columbia, and 42-45% of the popular vote. (Dean will do better in the popular vote because the CA, MA, NJ, and NY margins will be at least 60% pro-Dean. OTOH, Dean will probably get 45-50% in states such as IL, FL, MI, OH, and PA. Of the most populous states, only TX will have a 60%+ margin for Bush.

He supports the party based on internationalism, a liberal issue and not a Republican issue save for the Rockefeller wing, and he says he does not care about socialist domestic policy.

Normally, we put "barf alert" next to such RINOs, and yet look how many were so easily fooled to support the writer because he beat his chest from the safe confines of Evanston IL.

By your scenario the 14 States and D.C. for Dean would net him 180 EV to Bush's 358 EV. Pretty good guess. I have seen everything from a 49 State blow-out for Bush to a nail-biter that ends up a Electoral College tie and is resolved in Bush's favor in the House of Representatives.

I still don't have a feel for either a Dukakis or Mondale sized defeat for Dean, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out...

I'm sorry, I don't understand... how does any of that indicate that this particular author is insincere? It seems to me that, to him, Bush = hope for freedom in his home country in a manner similar to Afghanistan or Iraq. What reason is there to believe otherwise?

I never suggested the author was anything but very sincere-- all too sincere. He does not care about socialism and merely supports the GOP because he is looking for a security welfare handout for his home area.

I suggested that he is a phony, which in the context of the article, implied phony Republican-- and I stated my point that I did not feel any relief about the authors context for supporting the liberal agenda of internationalism.

The opinion he expressed with regards to internationalist security is widely held in the GOP. Far from being a phony Republican, his opinion squares with GOP policy well.

I own a small upstart and soon to be burgeoning business and I'm not at all unhappy with anything that Bush has done. Quite the contrary in fact!

The thought of Gore having won or Dean or any one of the other dem wooden-headed stiffs running scared the bejebus out of me!

I agree, Rockefeller Republicans and RINOs dominate the GOP which is why the author takes time out to brag about how apathetic he is to socialism.

And a fair number of FR posters, apparently lacking in self-esteem, embrace the RINO when he throws some faint praise. Sad days indeed.
