What I got from the consensus is that House to stay Republican with an increase up to a total of 230-240, with 5 pickups very likely. Senate POSSIBLE 55 but staying in the Republican column. Two net likely. GW will remain President barring a double dip recession OR Iraq going very badly.

All roads lead to Ohio. Bush and the Dem nominee will set up shop in Columbus, and never leave, except for forays into the adjacent rust belt, Michigan, West Virgina and Pennslyvania, and into the fat belt, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. For this campaign cycle, one will hardly need a plane.

Oh yes, I don't think Florida will be in play much. If Dean is the nominee, he will need to pick off New Hampshire, and then think up some other sizable state to grab, or some mini states. I am not sure what state(s) those would be.

If the President were to make the composition of the Senate a major issue this year, I believe an aggressive recruitment of quality GOP candidates could tally a 57 ot 58 GOP majority.

The 5 southern Democrat retirements are the GOP's to lose - and that's just the start.

Reid in Nevada is beatable.
So is Lincoln in Arkansas and Murray in Washington.

If the President's coattails are of historical proportions as I guess, Daschle is also toast.

And there might be a couple of upsets either way.

We need to encourage JC Watts to step up to the Senate and hold onto Nickles' seat.

Stuart Rothenberg in a recent CSPAN session at American University included Dashle (the ferret) in the "first tier" along with the vacant southern seats.

With a 60-40 Bush win in SD... I think Dashle can be taken!!

(Also have to disagree with Barone if he said Okla was a Dem pick-up....I don't think it will be).

The problem is not the leadership (at least, not this problem).

The problem is that all of the RAT senators, Miller possibly excepted, are committed warriors for socialism and centralization.

The GOP caucus is much more diverse. Even IF there were 60 Republican senators after 1/6/05, I doubt they could or would break RAT filibusters-because there are at least ten proabortion Republican senators (and probably more) who will not countenance the nomination of judges who will uphold the Constitution.

Illinois has always been a democrat leaning state due to the amount of democrats in Chicago. The rest of the state is Republican. The problem there is that the old Republican Governor Ryan is going to jail on corruption charges and its affecting the whole state party.

As for Arkansas, you have to understand that the state has historically been dominated by democrats since the civil war. Besides, Louisiana, no other state has been dominated and corrupted as Arkansas has been. In fact the amazing thing is that Republicans have won in that state in recent years.
