David Alan Cedillo, a well-known figure to local police and judges, was found dead this week in a south Lincoln garage.
The 42-year-old Cedillo's body was discovered at about 12:20 p.m., Tuesday inside the garage at 844 Peach St., authorities said. Police suspect he died between 3 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. An autopsy has been scheduled for Cedillo, a chronic alcoholic, but police do not suspect foul play.
Cedillo was no stranger to law enforcement. According to a 2002 Lincoln Journal Star article about chronic local offenders, Lincoln police arrested him 557 times since 1981.
Most of Cedillo's offenses were minor ones -- trespassing, for example -- but in 1998 he began serving a sentence of six to 10 years for first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Authorities suspected he stabbed a man whose car he was attempting to burglarize.
Cedillo was released from state custody on the convictions in March.

So from '81 to '88 he got arrested 557 times?
That's more than one arrest every week for eight years !

in 1998 he began serving a sentence of six to 10 years So the plan was that (at the earliest) he'd be released from prison in 2004. Yet, he's out of prison and found dead in a garage. Does that mean (gasp!) that sentences are mere words that do not actually indicate how long someone must stay in prison? I'm shocked!

In a related news story - Due to a drastic drop in the crime rate, the city council voted to cut the police force by half.

If alcohol were legalized this wouldn't have happened.

Interesting analysis. Just one thing though. What the hell are you talking about?
:^)
Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it's so profound that my cluttered mind just can't get around it. So could you take a second and spell it out for me ... slowly. Thanks.

He started serving a jail sentence in 1998, so his average has to go up since he couldn't have been arrested while in jail.
What a loser.

Sounds like Lincoln gained an extra 3500 gallons of oxygen anyway.

The article doesn't appear to
say suicide, but...
Isn't attempting suicide a crime (let alone succeeding)? If so, I think they should arrest him again, just to be fair.

1998, not 1988 -- 17 years, or about 33 times a year. Doesn't mean he was convicted or was even tried for many of them...

In Nebraska sentencing is a joke. We release all criminals from jail as early as possible, and still require that law-abiding citizens rely fully upon the 911 system and law enforcement to protect them from criminals by denying the law-abiding citizen their God-given right to keep and bear arms.

So from '81 to '88 he got arrested 557 times? That's more than one arrest every week for eight years ! GOOD RIDDENS INDEED! It's estimated to cost "at least $2200.00" per arrest, booking and court costs for each "MINOR" offense committed by this habitual criminal. The candyass news reporter and the justice system are broken if they don't see how horrible to our society, this perp really was. He needed to be on a FREEZING road gang, not in a warm indoor garage, drowning in his own waste.. Bah Humbug..
Now I feel better. . Thanks . . MERRY "Fudgin" XMISSED. . :o)

Maybe some of those times weren't actual arrests but PC's? PC, Protective Custody, tossing someone in the clink to sleep off a toot?
