THE PERSECUTION OF RUSH GOES ON MARK A SITY 12/26/03
Years ago, Brett Favre had a problem with pain killers. He was buying them illegally after a prescription ran out for after an injury that still hurt. He became addicted. After the news came out, he apologized to his fans, went into treatment, and all was right with the world. Not a soul seems to be interested in investigating Ozzy Osbournes drug use, but there might be a reason for this. Ozzy seems to be attempting to prove the theory of evolution by devolving into lower forms of life before our eyes. Ozzie is an interesting scientific experiment.
Yet, Rush Limbaugh is reported to have a problem with an addiction to pain killers, admits it and goes into treatment, and all is still not right with the world. Rumors are reported first that hes part of a drug ring investigation. Ok, it seems this is true in that his name turned up as a customer. Then rumors were reported that he was buying these prescription pain killers in 1000+ lots. Then rumors were reported that he was involved in selling the drugs (like he really needs the money!). Then it was money laundering. Now he is under investigation for the very serious crime of DOCTOR SHOPPING. It seems this is a huge crime in Florida.
This makes me wonder. If I take my family to Florida for a vacation, and our daughter hurts herself, lets say she hurts her leg. Being from Wisconsin we wouldnt know who the good FL doctors are and who the quacks are. Wed probably take her to the closest doctor. So lets say we get Dr Quack. Dr Quack takes her into the X-ray room, and comes out with an X ray showing a hairline fracture in her calf bone. We would assume a leg cast is in order. Dr Quack comes back with not the plaster cart, but a laughing gas cart and then pulls out a big meat saw. Dr Quack tells us he will have to amputate her leg for the hairline fracture. If we decide to take her out of the office (with both legs attached) and look for a second opinion are we in violation of FL law for DOCTOR SHOPPING?
I dont claim to have any inside information on Rushs situation, but drawing on what he has said, it seems that he had a painful back problem and went to Dr Quack. Dr Quack recommended surgery. Dr Quack messed up the surgery. Dr Quack prescribed a pain killer to Rush for temporary relief of a long term problem. Dr Quacks prescription ran out on Rush, leaving him in debilitating pain. Rush knew the pain killer could allow him mobility, and Dr Quack offered no option other than permanent debilitating pain for the rest of his natural life. It seems to me that Rush should have been doctor shopping a long time ago!
Why is Rush on trial here, without even any charges being filed? Shouldnt Dr Quack be the one being investigated for leading an innocent victim down the path of lawlessness and drug use? Where is the AMA? Could it be that they, along with the press have an anti-Rush agenda? Nah, couldnt be. If I believed that Id be one of the black helicopter conspiracy types then, wouldnt I?

At what point should his cooperation end? It should be clear to anyone by now that the prosecution is leaking like a sieve and they cannot be trusted to keep the info in his private medical files private.
It seems abundantly clear to me at this point that the prosecution has tried several other avenues and has come up with the very heinous crime of doctor shopping. Even then, their case seems quite weak. But, hey, if you can damage him and never have to bring a charge in court, so much the better. I suppose you see nothing at all wrong with that.
I find it both predictable and sad that so many putative conservatives would mount a liberal defense of a conservative. You folks are doing Rush no favors. Your defense tends to buttress the veracity of the observation Rush truly didn't believe what he was saying.
If Rush was speaking about a liberal doing what he did, he would savage him daily and produce hilarious comedy skits/songs ect. THat he is not subject to the same treatment tends to make one see his defenders as liitle different than the defenders of Bill Clinton's perversions.
Rush, repeatedly, says his "talent is on loan from God." So is his body. Holy Writ says , !st Corinth:6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
So, Mr. Conervative pollutes his body like a dope fiend and the entire mess is blamed on liberals?
Yes, but I also know that prosecutors have every right to see medical records if they relate to a criminal investigation. If they have confidentiality problems, maybe the judge could set up a special master to oversee release of only relevant material, or put them under seal and find the prosecutors in contempt if released. But the prosecutors do have a right to the records pursuant to an investigation, and Rush is trying to interfere with that investigation.
"I read a lot here about moral relativism. To me, what's right is right, what's wrong is wrong. Rush didn't need thousands of pills, nor did he need to doctor shop."
I don't think there is any moral issue here. Nor is there right or wrong in what Rush did. To paraphrase Dr. Walter Williams, there are just laws and unjust laws. An unjust law is one that allows the government to do something that it would prosecute us for doing. For example, the Government can take your money and buy some pain killers and give them to me. I, on the other hand, would go to jail if I took your money and bought myself some pain killers.
It is my belief that requiring a prescription from an M.D. for an effective pain killer, while there is a plethora of less effective pain killers available "over-the-counter" (note the negative connotation of "over-the-counter") is racketeering, as in RICO, the racketeers are the Government, the AMA and the Pharmaceutical manufacturers. I can legally kill myself slowly with alcohol and/or acetaminophen. I can buy alcohol by the barrel and Tylenol by the case if I cared to, legally.
Has it been established as fact that Rush bought thousands of pills? If so, over what period of time? Don't pills come in different dosages? I take a medication daily that comes in micrograms and the pills or available from 25 micrograms to 300 micrograms, so 1000 of the 25s would be equivalent to 83 of the 300s, 1000s even if true may be misleading.
Finally, how did you come to the conclusion that Rush didn't need to Dr. shop? Do you have a more effective method?
"Clandestinely meeting someone in a parking lot to buy thousands of pills is not the act of someone trying to relieve their pain because the doctors have failed to do so. These are the actions of an addict."
I think there are millions of men meeting clandestinely with their M.D.s to purchase Viagra...may not be in a parking lot, it's just a matter of privacy.
Is there some law against addiction? I've never heard of one. I suspect there are some here who are "addicted" to FreeRepublic, should they stand up and take their medicine like men or...be prosecuted?
"Rush should stand up, take his medicine like a man and move on."
Are you being a punster here? Rush did indeed take his medicine like a man. Now he is taking his "medicine" like a man.
He's already done that. How could you miss that? Were you living in an underground room in Tikrit recently?
