THE secret to longevity lies in the supermarket. According to "SuperFoods Rx: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life" (William Morrow, $24.95), some foods will not only improve your life - but may well extend it.

Beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea, tomatoes, turkey, walnuts and yogurt - all rich in nutrients and relatively low in calories - are all credited with preventing, and in some cases even reversing, heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and dementia.

A few years back, I cooked up some acorn squash. Scooped them out, mixed an egg, some pumpkin pie seasoning, butter and brown sugar, poured it into a graham cracker crust and baked it.

Squash pie. Yum.

Those babies freeze up real nice too. I usually make about 4 loaves this time of year and freeze three of them. They are so moist when defrosted. Zuchini bread does nice in the freezer too.

Makes one FINE smoothie. I like to add a little vodka to kick it up a notch.

Very helpful links, thank you.

The rise in the use of soy products might be a contributor to obesity, I think.

Mostly good, common sense here, except I'm not convinced that soy is such a good thing.

The Trouble With Tofu: Soy and the Brain

By John D. MacArthur

"Tofu Shrinks Brain!" Not a science fiction scenario, this sobering soybean revelation is for real. But how did the "poster bean" of the '90s go wrong? Apparently, in many ways -- none of which bode well for the brain.

Sorry, that was a typo. Just ordinary vitamin E and C. The alpha lipoic acid makes a much larger difference. When I was 30 I started getting skin tags, especially when I was stressed out. The alpha lipoic acid is shinking the skin tags. It seems to be very powerful stuff.

Oh man! You have it right. I could eat steak frites, wine, desert, cognac, cigar every day and not get tired of it. Best. Food. Ever.
