Eating a can of anchovies before a hot date is a good birth control measure ;-)

The more mayonnaise and tomatoes and lettuce you put on it, and the thicker the bread, the better it tasted.

Oats are great raw

A week ago I would have not believed you. However, my Norwegian friend and I were talking about oatmeal, which I love. She mentioned eating the oats raw. I thought you couldn't do that - wouldn't they expand and explode in you or something?

Long story short, I tried some w/some splenda w/a little skim milk (she puts raisins and nuts in hers). It was not bad at all. I have to admit being biased toward hot food on cold mornings, but the raw oats do seem like a healthy way of eating. And despite Norway being a cold country, she says they eat oats raw like this all the time.

Oats are even better if you grind (mill?) them right on the spot.

Grinding my own food. Cool. Brings out the old hippie in me. Can you buy 'just plain oats' in a regular store or am I going to have to find a veggie store someplace?

I love everything on this list except for soy. I ate similar foods to these around the time I met hubby--was the best I have ever felt in my life!

My son told me that when he was really broke one time and was away from home that he would eat two cups of uncooked rice in the morning and follow it up with two glasses of water; his belly stayed full until the evening.

My grandfather used to eat them like that with sugar substitute and a little bit of milk. I always liked Muesli--it's a jazzed up version of raw oats, fruit, and nuts--very yummy.

use pumpkin like squash. great way to cook pumpkin is savory. Dice it up, if you can find it fresh, saute with olive oil, garlic, and some red pepper flakes.

Canned pumpkin is tougher. You can throw it into some bread recipes, add splenda to it, some soy milk, and make a porridge out of it.

Beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea, tomatoes, turkey, walnuts and yogurt - all rich in nutrients and relatively low in calories - are all credited with preventing, and in some cases even reversing, heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers and dementia.

They left out pastrami and chili fries!
