A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, dansangel, dutchess, Aquamarine ~

To Our FReeper FRiends: We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. We thought we'd kick back on the weekends and simply review the features of the week. If you missed seeing them and want to say hello there now, feel free to click on the link to that particular thread. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today and tomorrow, please feel free to do that also. One of us will always be around to see the welcome mat is still out, and maybe even put fresh flowers on the table. ~ Billie

That is a wonderful idea Julie. I have the big basket and plenty of pine needles for the straw and I wonder if I still have that doll. I can put it in front of my apartment with the porch light on. I think though, that I will leave it empty until Christmas eve and then put the doll in the basket.

Thank you Julie for the information.

"Once heard it said that Blessed Assurance can be twisted a bit to read, Blessed Insurance.

The benefits are out of this world, and the underwriter paid all the premiums."

I LOVE IT, Brother Dave !!

We plan to put the baby in the basket on 12/18 when there is 'Christmas Carol Singing' in our community.....we want the carolers to see the Manger.

Feel free to tell the 'idea' to others! I hope that many will create their own Mangers as a symbol of the real meaning og CHRISTmas.

Thank You, Lord, for the end of the reign of a brutal dictator!
Our prayers have been heard, and we are especially happy for our military forces in the region for this turn of events upon which so much rests.

Let the Iraquis be guided to a new and peaceful life...
To You we give praise and honor, and rejoice!!
Amen.

I nearly spit coffee on my keyboard when I saw you post that on the Saddam thread! That is a great caption!

I can't wait to see how many people are outed by Saddam. The news reports say he is being cooperative. He was wearing a bomb belt and was too much of a coward to end his life when he knew he was caught. This may be great news. Cause he is talking (so far)!

Let's see how many were on his payroll!

Thanks !

I'll refrain from repeating my earlier comment about him being taken alive
instead of ...

Perhaps it will be a good thing the info we get outta him. Someone suggested
putting him up in the Kurd Hilton after we have all the info out of him ...

It appears that God has answered our prayers on this wonderful Sunday morning. He gave a wonderful pre Christmas gift.

The joyous Iraqi people remind me of our kids running down the stairs on Christmas morning to see what Santa left them.

Strange Facts About the 1500s

1. Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May,
and, still, smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell,
so, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

2. Houses had thatched roofs--thick straw, piled high, with no wood, underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so, all the dogs, cats, and other small animals (mice
rats, and bugs), lived in the roof. When it rained, it became slippery and,
sometimes, the animals would slip and fall off the roof-- hence the saying "It's
raining cats and dogs."

3. There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom, where bugs and other droppings could, really, mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top, afforded some protection. That's how canopy
beds came into existence.

4. The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, hence the saying "dirt poor."

5. They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat."

6. Bread was divided, according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or, "upper crust."

Time for Coffee! Just got back online

"The virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." —Matthew 1:23

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Immanuel. —Wesley

God came to live with us so we could live with Him.

Immanuel

Read: Isaiah 8:1-10

"The virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." —Matthew 1:23

Bible In One Year: Hebrews 1-4

Since that first Christmas day 2,000 years ago, the assurance that God is with His people has taken on new meaning. Before Jesus was born, the Israelites were assured that even in judgment they could have hope because God was with them (Isaiah 8:8,10). Yet they didn't know God as fully as we can today.

We have a great advantage because through reading the New Testament we can see the glory of God "in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6). And we can sense His presence in all situations of life because He is made real to us by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:10-16).

When I need to be reassured that God is with me, I think about Jesus as He is revealed in the New Testament. I recall how He took little children in His arms and blessed them (Matthew 19:13-15). Then I think of His crucifixion, which reminds me of all He endured to be my Savior (27:27-54). Finally, I reflect on His promise, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (28:20).

The birth of Jesus gave new significance to the name Immanuel, which means "God with us" (1:23). Because He lived among us, died for us, and sent His Spirit to indwell us, we can rejoice! —Herb Vander Lugt

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Immanuel. —Wesley

God came to live with us so we could live with Him.

I agree, it's the most important day since Hitler put a bullet in his own head.

Congratulations to our Great Military on this incredible Victory!
