In a discussion on this thread Tom Ridge's Immigration Remarks Draw Fire a post regarding the conservative angst about the recent campaign finance reform that Bush signed into law and that the Supreme Court approved (and the approval was praised by the White House), on the heals of the Medicare entitlement enacted under a Republican controlled government the following was posted:
I'm hearing Rush now. He claims the republicans have ONLY one party to go to. He has put this issue squarely on the problem. We need to vote outside of this corrupt party apparatus.

I also heard this on Rush and my blood boiled. Rush said conservatives have no place else to go and thus will continue to vote as a block to the Republicans.....and then it hit me. That is exactly what we conservatives lament about Blacks and the Democratic party. Black Democrats who vote straight Democratic and are rewarded by being ignored.
In other words, Conservatives are now the "Blacks" of the Republican Party!!!
I urge the same solution to Republican conservatives that Black conservatives offer to Black Democrats. QUIT! Become independents and let the parties fight for our votes. If we can't take the GOP back we should leave the GOP.
I did not change. My party did. I thank God Ronald Reagan is unable to comprehend what is happening to the party he saved.

That is a good point, but if the GOP keeps up with amnisty for the illegals, buddying up to China, not speaking out against the SC finding on sodomy, etc. would that not make them just as immoral? The answer is yes...almost. Some day, I believe the GOP will be just as immoral as the Dems, but the process will take awhile. You can see the slippage on key issues now - gay rights, courts, big govt., etc., and that is precisely why I am no longer a Republican - I VOTE MORAL PRINCIPLE AND ONLY MORAL PRINCIPLE.

Where did this third party come from? I said hold your independent vote and be courted.
Sounds more like a manipulative virgin than political strategy. I'm not sure what other freepers are referring to, but by "third party" I'm talking about the folks here that you see proudly proclaiming that they joined the Constitution Party or that they voted other than the GOP because they were peeved they didn't get what they wanted on their favorite issue. Morons like that.
By the way, "organized as independents"? There is no such thing. There are far-lefties and socialists in that mix, and disenfranchised Dems who feel the Dem Party abandoned them and they want to be "courted".....and even folks like my staunch-conservative hubby who registered Independent because he absolutely can't say no to any GOP fundraising call even if we already busted the budget donating to something the week before. There are also mushy middle swing voters as Independents who don't know enough about politics to see the big differences between the right and the left.
No such thing as an Independent voting block, dear, without any type of consistent ideology.

You can't teach a rock. It is inert. But for the sake of anyone who might be lurking and be tempted to taste the raw meat he is selling, I'm glad you tried.

Where the Constitution is mute, the people of the State have a right to make laws. I guess you missed that class.

Um, maybe because he is acting more like a moderate than a conservative is why people are talking about not voting for him. As far as I can tell, if someone does one thing deemed non-conservative, with these people they are henceforth defined as liberal, no different than the Democrats etc. He has not on balance been more like a moderate than a conservative. There's two things everyone is citing - big spending, which is due in part to Iraq/terrorism, and CFR. It's not as though supporting the prescription drug benefit was some kind of reversal for Bush either (which some people seem to interpret it as). He campaigned on it. If he had a different record on those things, most of these 10 year olds would be citing something else as their basis for saying he's a liberal. Tax cuts, partial birth abortion ban, opposing Kyoto, reversing Clinton era EPA's excessive actions, missile defense, arguing against U. of Michigan's affirmative action scheme before the SC, war on terror, conservative judge appointments etc. are all conservative.
IMO if Dean or some other Dem wins and we get attacked again, most of these geniuses would immediately proclaim that it would have happened if Bush had won too.

We have sleeper cells on FR apparently ...I've wondered. One enjoyable trait of being on the right is that it takes a fairly high level of intelligence to understand why conservatism is so important and healthy for the country. This usually makes for very enjoyable interaction with the best and the brightest in the political spectrum.
It's surreal seeing a supposed "conservative" that also appears to be as dumb as a post.

while the left has allied with those abroad who despise America and democracy. And Bush has not? Case in point: UN, Saudi Arabia, Syria, China, etc.
And you aren't bright enough to see any difference? The GOP has been using diplomacy and international alliances where needed to protect the country and our national interests.... the Dems allied with our enemies only to increase their own power and interests at the expense of America.

You forgot the education bill, encouraging the passage of and stating that he will sign an extension to the AWB, not speaking out against the Texas sodomy ruling, pushing for the legalization of illegal aliens, kissing China's
a@@ on Tiawan and so on. I said that he is acting more moderate due to balancing all the liberal things he has done (and been for) and all the conservative things he has done (and been for). That puts him in the moderate range, possibly leaning slightly conservative at this time.

while the left has allied with those abroad who despise America and democracy. Are your words, when I point out that Bush has done the same, you start talking about using diplomacy and international alliances where needed to protect the country and our national interests. Just how is kissing China's a@@ over Tiawan using diplomacy and international alliances where needed to protect the country and our national interests? How about Saudi Arabia? Did/do we really need them to protect the country and our national interests? Not really other than oil, but if the GOP had some balls they would have stood up to the Dems about the Energy bill and got it passed.

Last time I read the Constitution, the legislature makes the laws of the land, not the people. The people elect people to the legislature, but they can pass laws that go against the wishes/beliefs of the people (as is the case we have currently and in the past).
