Could Dean really win? Unfortunately, yes. The Democratic presidential candidate has, alas, won the popular presidential vote three times in a row -- twice, admittedly, under the guidance of the skilled Bill Clinton, but most recently with the hapless Al Gore at the helm. And demographic trends (particularly the growth in Hispanic voters) tend to favor the Democrats going into 2004.

But surely the fact that Bush is now a proven president running for reelection changes everything? Sort of. Bush is also likely to be the first president since Herbert Hoover under whom there will have been no net job creation, and the first since Lyndon Johnson whose core justification for sending U.S. soldiers to war could be widely (if unfairly) judged to have been misleading.

What kinda scared me yesterday on Larry King was when Bush came out to surprise Larry and then he said he has 11 whole months till the election and he really wasn't concerned. Bush has got to start getting out there and start campaigning soon if he wants to beat Dean. Dean is all over the place and with the help of Move on and other Communist organizations they are working double time to win over independent voters.

Well, buddy boy Kristol, the Republicans won the popular vote three times in a row in the 1980s, twice under the skilled Ronald Reagan and once under the (no comment) first George Bush. Also, party registration trends in the 1980s favored the Republicans. But, whatever happened in 1992?

The kind of false logic in articles like this is laughable. That people actually believe stuff like this, much less write it, is a hoot. Extrapolating out, one could more aptly say that the Democrats have had their three-election vote advantage and now it's time for the tide to turn again, but mechanically extrapolating out vote totals with different candidates and different circumstances is stupid.

I thought Clinton won more of the popular vote than Bush or Dole in those elections.

I think Bush could lose. Lots of things could happen between now and the election. Kristol is correct, and we should be proactive. The election will be very nasty especially if Dean gets the nod. Down in the dirt and hateful. Count on it.

You forget that prior to 9/11, Bush & Rumsfeld were planning on eliminating one Army division and two AF wings. It took an attack on the U.S. for these plans to downsize our armed forces to be set aside.

Kristol is probably trying to get Gingrich to run against Bush to keep Bush in line with Kristol's ambitions. Gingrich is already trying separation.

What do you think that trip to Iraq was? Oh, it definitely was a sound, morale-boosting visit by an honorable Commander-in-Chief as well, but there's nothing that says doing the right thing can't help the campaign, too. From the tax cuts he pushed at the start of his presidency through the judicial appointment that force Democrat hypocrisy to show to the prescription drug benefit, he's been doing things to get re-elected since the moment he took office.

And that's a good thing, because he believes that using the power of the Presidency to do what he thinks is right is the best way to get re-elected. I wish he'd control spending better, and I really wish he'd make more of an issue of the stalled judicial appointments, but don't think he's not campaigning.

I meant seriously campaigning. I don't think that the trip to Iraq was done for votes. I believe Bush did that because he cared for our troops and wanted to boost their morale during the holiday. I really meant getting out there and riding across the U.S. and campaigning like he did in 2000. People want to see him in person pressing the flesh! That is the only way to get votes.

Hispanics are family-valued, religious and hard-working.

Home ownership is growing rapidly in this community.

What do all home owners have in common?

Concern for high taxes, good schools and safe neighborhoods.

All republican issues.

I believe that the demographics are leaning more conservative.

Even recent polls show strong trends among teenagers and young adults for social and fiscal conservatism.

Actually Hispanics are just as liberal as they always were - The problem (For them) is that at least 30% of Hispanics in the US are Illegals who can't vote.


You are assuming that the liberals play by the rules. I'd bet that 50-75% of those illegals will be registered and escorted to the polls by Dems. They'll offer them food, money and promises of citizenship.
