I agree, it is just plain and simple ignorance much of which is a result of parental and peer attitude.Along with a hearty helping of deliberate mis-information and downright lies from the media, polititions and a lax education system.Had I called one of my Black or Mixican playmates any seriously hatefull name my parents or the parents of my playmates would have tanned my little behind and rightly so. Besides which wee all color blind in my neighborhood,Peoria Illinois in the 40"s and 50's. Not to say everyone felt the same, however we were all poor by the standards of the time.

When I was a kid in southern California, our neighborhood included white, black, American Indian, India Indian, Filipino, and Mexican ... just that I can recall. Everyone was just "people."

Your history is correct as far as how tribes in Africa fought one another and the losers were sold into slavery. The question to you is, "If a nation or tribe are unable to defend themselves against aggressors, do they deserve to be sold into slavery?" I think the history over there shows one side willing to sell out another. I understand that the world is dog-eat-dog, but I am not sure that I would want to celebrate the fact that I was either sold out or involved with selling others out...
And there are weak countries that do not have a strong military tradition... In some places, they simply make alliances and survive... Obviously, it works differently in different places...
But if you think about history, the Aztecs, the Spartans, the Armenians, the Kurds, the Israelis before 1948, the American Indians, the Nepalese, and any African American that you decide fits the bill... You can easily say that they deserve to be where they are... I am not sure that it is the most acceptable conclusion but that gets into Darwin, acts of Fate, acts of God, and pure old being in the right or wrong place at the right of wrong time...
What has happened has happened but I think it would be unfair to conclude that people who are not able to defend themselves against aggressors do not deserve to exist as a people in dignity.. Just my humble opinion...

Cool! Last I saw of him, he was poking fun at himself in a Little Caesar's commercial a few years ago.

I agree. We are all Americans. When people raise their children to Americans we will not see these problems. BTW, I honestly do not personally know one "white " American who has ever discriminated against a "black" American, or caused harm to one single "black" American.
Just the way I was raised and Waht I believe in my heart.
Sadly, I can not say the opposite is true. There is discrimination in this country , on both sides, black or white, those people do have the power "to get over it " if they wanted to.

At one point, the Jews in Germany couldn't defend themselves against Nazism. No one would say they deserved to be shoved into ovens because they were dumb. BTW, there were Jews who hunted down other Jews and turned them over to Nazis and so on.

We only talk about slavery so much because it's in recent memory. I have clients who recall cowering from the Klan underneath tables while crosses burned. What am I supposed to say? Oh I had nothing to do with that, don't give me your chip on your shoulder...That's pretty insensitive. I used to say things like that. It only creates more bitterness and benefits no one. People DO have to move on eventually. Of course, liberals want people to live in the past because it suits them.

Interesting point. Years ago I had a friend who was of Chinese ethnicity, born in Singapore. His reaction to the stereotype that Asians were smarter on average than the US population in general? For the ones who are in North America, it's true; but it isn't backed up by his experience in Asia. His conclusion: only the smartest or the most focused/determined made it here, so the stereotype is based upon a sample that's not representative.
